Postcard from the edge of ten years out....
I was just jotting some stuff down in my calendar for the month of November when I realized my cancerversary falls on Thanksgiving for the first time. That's kinda cool, only I usually celebrate the whole day with a select group of reprobate girlfriends. I make up a big ole pitcher of Knock You Naked Margaritas and we toast my continued survival, usually far into the night, and I am wondering how this will all fit in with turkey and creamed onions.
I have been a terrible patient, an irresponsible survivor--I don't take supplements of any kind except Vitamin D, work too many long hours at a stressful job, drink like a fish, eat like an elephant, and don't exercise. I say that my tumor was 5 cm but it was hacked up so many times, (4) that my onc says it was at least 5 cm, maybe larger. My five positive nodes were surrounded by large tumors, and worst of all my ki-67 was an astronomical 70%. I only took AI's sporadically, with many unauthorized vacations because they ripped my body apart. Fact is, I have been known to hold Slouchfests at my bar for other survivors who are equally as naughty as me.
I am hoping this postcard will give hope to all of you---those who are slouches like me, and those who are conscientious and follow the guidelines for beating this ghastly thing. If I could do it with my debauched lifestyle...imagine what you can do with all the research that has been published recently to promote your wellness.
I love this forum and all of you, and root for you every day! Love, Weesa

Very funny. Congratulations on 10 years!!
-
oh i absolutely love your post, Weesa!!
I love your honesty, because I'm not always that conscientious myself and certainly have my pangs of guilt! I am so excited for your 10 years! I too had big nodes surrounded by cancer and a very high Ki-67. Reading a post like yours gives me SO MUCH hope and I will toast to you with my wine glass with no guilt whatsoever!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! what a fantastic milestone! Keep living life!!!

LOVE your post!!!

I love it too! Very encouraging.

Weesa, you are my hero! I would be right at home bellied up to the bar at one of your slouchfests. I love my wine, try to eat well (but fail a lot of the time) and the only exercise I get is forcing myself to walk my dog at a very leisurely pace.
So an early congratulations on your huge milestone and thank you for helping a fellow sloucher feel a little less guilty.

I had a fabulous time hiking the mountains of Washington, but dang, I'm starting to regret foregoing my annual trip to Tennessee and North Carolina now! Slouchfest is such a great way to give the finger to Pinktober!
My boyfriend and I were just talking about those margaritas the other night. And your Thanksgiving sounds absolutely bodacious!
So glad to hear you've reached 10 years. You give inspiration to those of us still on the climb. You've proven that a little (or a lot!) of debauchery is good for the body as well as the soul! I shall drink to your continued good health tonight with a chilled bottle of Gaelic Ale!
-
Awesome, Weesa, you are hilarious and I would love to attend a slouchfest with you! Ten years on Thanksgiving. Nice.

weesa- Congratulations on 10 years! You give a lot of hope to all of us feeling guilt every time we have a drink or a hamburger with french fries. I remember reading the posts on your'slouchfest' and loving them.
Keep living life and enjoying yourself...it has served you well.

Really needed to read something like this today. It has cheered me right up! Good for you and continued health and happiness!
-
Congrats Weesa! You are a successful slouch!
Except for faithfully taking my AI, I can say I'm slouching right along with you. Tried speedy walking for exercise this Spring and remembered why I gave it up...I get shin splints. Owie! Thought I'd try cutting back on my wine, but ended up drinking Cosmos instead. And I am such a foodie that it would be like dying to give up bad foods. At least in that department, I can moderate things a bit by mixing in some good ones (love them, too). -
Hello, Weesa, thank you for posting and the good news. I am new to this blog - having just registered - and as a Stage IIIC survivor just a few months out of chemo and radiation, I am so glad to find this community. I am looking forward to learning from everyone and celebrating major milestones like yours - it gives me great hope! It has been hard for me to find others with a similar diagnosis, so I look forward to connecting (and updating my profile as well!), and learning about how to make the most of it with slouchfests, etc.
Congratulations!

Soooo funny, Weesa! Thanks for the great laugh today. That's what I call "livin large". My favorite line from a movie comes from Doc Holiday (Val Kilmer) in Tombstone: "I have not yet begun to defile myself." I laugh every time he says it, and thought of it when I read this post. You go, girl!
-
Way to go Weesa... 10 years. lol at your post... my hero and inspiration.
-
I think I might just be in love with you
-

-
Awesome! I'll have a G and T in your honour.
