I have the same problem with my Kindle freezing while trying for wifi..

Thanks for that Lisa, it's nice to know it wasn't my fault.

Do you think that we 'golden girls' do some things in a generically 'old' way to stuff them up?

I'll have to ask my kids next time I see them, they know this techno 'stuff.'

    Sheila.

When my kindle does work on wifi, it is so slow it isn't worth it to me. I bought a samsung 7inch tablet instead. I do still use my Kindle for reading

Church bazaar is in 2 weeks and so far I've made 2 sweet potato pies and 4 chicken pot pies.  I'm bushed now and only plan to get up when  the timer goes off for the last 2 pot pies.  Some of the older ladies used to meet at the church and make chicken pot pies assembly line fashion and bake them in the big ovens there, but very few of them are able to do that anymore.  My circle voted to each make some at our homes, but right now I see the advantages of an assembly line!  Have 4 more sweet potato pies to make (tomorrow) and then come the 2 pound cakes I was fool enough to sign up for!

I LOVE chicken pot pies and just bought casserole dishes to do them in!! What is a good recipe? How do I know if it's a good recipe before I commit my chicken to it??

Barbe  - I love it.  "Commit my chicken to it".  Good question. I've never made a decent pot pie and I readily confess to loving frozen Marie Callenders ones. It's got to be the gravy part and oh the crust. I have a set of individual corning ware bowls (use them for giant cereal bowls) I've had oh probably 30+ years. They would make great ones for that. What kind of casserole dishes do you have for them?

I'll just post the recipe here rather than trying to send multiple private messages, since I don't know how to do that. This recipe is the one that the church ladies insist we use for the bazaar and is made for 2 aluminum 8x8 pans, for freezing.

    Chicken Pot Pie:

3 chicken breasts            1 can mixed vegetables (Veg-all)

1 can cr. of chicken soup  1 can chicken broth

3 T. flour                         small amt of milk

Cook chicken breasts covered in water until done.  Tear into small pieces and put in 2 greased 8x8 pans.  Combine chicken broth from cooked chicken, cream of chicken soup, and can of chicken broth.  Heat to boiling.  Thicken with the 3 T. flour mixed with a small amt of milk.  Pour drained vegetables over chicken.  Then pour the thickened broth mixture over it, covering chicken mixture completely.

Note:  I used 3 lg. boneless breasts, covered in water to which I added celery, onion, and carrot, salt and pepper.  I used the drained broth from cooking the chicken and filled the soup can twice with it instead of using a can of chicken broth.  However you do it, be sure you have enough thickened broth  to completely cover the chicken mixture.

    Crust:

1 c. self rising flour    1 cup buttermilk   1 stick melted margarine

Mix together and pour over chicken.

Bake at 375 until crust is browned slightly, about 40-50 minutes.  (Ovens vary.)

After cooking cool and freeze, then wrap in foil.

To cook frozen pot pie, thaw overnight in refrigerator.  Bake about 30 minutes in 350 preheated oven.

This recipe is from one of the older church ladies and has been the bazaar's top selling item since the beginning of recorded time!  For some reason, my family never cared for it.  If I were making it for my family, I would omit the Veg-all and used instead 2 cups of frozen peas, then top it with a refrigerated pie crust.  Or, you could eliminate the veg-all and make it with just chicken.

We have Zellers stores closing as Target comes into Canada, so there are some pretty big deals going on right now. I got some great "French White" Corningwear sets for very low $$$. I even live near an outlet mall and these were way cheaper!!! Some of the bowls come with lids, too, not just glass covers. So smart!

You know Barbe, I do have baby casseroles too. Don't use them but they are here somewhere.  And, yes, they have plastic snap on lids. I think I could put down Press N Seal and then snap on the lids.  Need to look for them.  Garage sales are great places to find CorningWare stuffs.

Hey buds. Hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was made more perfect than most, because I got to ... drum roll ... welcome my first grandson, David Theodore Funt, to the world on Saturday :) All 7 lb. 6 oz. of him. Here he is puckering up for a kiss while I was holding him yesterday. I'm lost in love :)

Oh, I love Ya Ya!  Wish I'd thought of that before DGS started calling me Me-Ma, which was his own invention.  (I tried to be Nana, but nope.)  I'm sure I'll be Me-Ma to his new brother when he gets here too.  He calls his other grandmother, whose name is Jo, Grandma Josie.  Whatever David calls you, it'll be one sweet sound to you, Mary!

DH is making his final preparations for the Great Outer Banks Fishing Trip, or so he says.  He still has to pack and buy groceries, but the fishing gear is ready. I worry about them going to an island that can only be accessed by ferry, but it does no good to say anything---they're all as excited as kids now and there will be tales to be told when they return in a week.

3jays, it's so good to see you!  (Well, you know what I mean.)  I hope your moving plans are going along well and you've had some luck.

Must bake more tomorrow for that bazaar.  Still have 2 pound cakes to go and was told tonight that they need 6 more sweet potato pies.  I'm about baked out....

I think my DH is hopeless. He told me he had loaned a certain book to a friend. We haven't heard from this person in 40 years and have no idea if he's still living. DH said it didn't matter because he knew where the book went. Now if you have to remember this about every tiny object you have ever had, imagine!

My day has been not too good to say the least.

I took my car in for a major service this morning. About an hour after I dropped it off I got a call from garage to say 'where's your locking nut, we can't get your wheels off to do your brakes' It's my SILs garage, and for the past 20 odd years I have kept my locking nuts in a little plastic bag behind the passenger seat...SIL knew this... he had had the car in a million pieces looking for the nut, never had to ring me before.

Well, guess who had removed the locking nut to mend me a puncture, about 6 weeks ago, and then not put it back ??? DH !! Of course he denied everything, tried to blame me..."he hadn't used it" ( howdya get the wheel off then ?) "It MUST be in the car " ( it wasn't) " don't you remember telling me you wanted it putting in another place" ( EH ??  I DID NOT.) That man will NEVER admit to being wrong, it really infuriates me. Now it means I have to wait to get the main dealer to check up some code or other, order me another locking nut, send it to SILs garage, before I can get my brakes done. SIL said he COULD drill it out, but it would still mean having to get a new one...so I wait ! I also have the worry if out alone and I have a puncture I won't be able to change the wheel!!!

About half an hour after this fiasco the phone went again....SIL.. "Have you lost a cat ?" Now this was a bit of a stupid question as his garage is about 6-7 miles away! Unless he'd found one of my cats in the back of the car ! Oh no, much worse...he'd found a young kitten wrapped around the top of my engine, missing 3 legs. Dead as a Dodo. My flesh was creeping, poor little thing . I had noticed this particular kitten hadn't been up for its food for 2 days, but never imagined it was stuck in my car.

Then to crown all, I came home with half serviced car. I had a big leather bag with me today, full of absolutely everything but the kitchen sink, as usual. Dropped it on the doorstep, nipped back to the car to get some shopping, came back just in time to see my best tomcat back up to my bag, shake his tail, and pee right into the open bag. !!! Just let's say it is a really good job my nearest neighbour is a mile away...he would have heard some very good old English words. Flippin' cat just looked at me as if to say " what's up with you"

Just pleased it's bedtime now, and I can forget about today...goodness knows what will happen tomorrow!

    Isabella.

Oh Isabella, I am sooo sorry for your troubles but hon, I have to say that your writing still makes me laugh. I will balance that with a prayer that tomorrow is a better day but come on ... there was some stuff in there you HAD to know would make us laugh :) Hugs.

Joni, nope! And lucky for them, it's only people 50 and over who make any connection anyhow :) They prefer to think of themselves as "Fun with a T"  That's how they spell it over the phone when ordering, etc. I kind of like that!
