MirandaSW - welcome! Sorry you have to be here, but you're surrounded by wonderful women.
Juneaubugg - Re your hair - awesome! I hope mine comes back that fast, not sure if it will because my AC is being followed with Taxol. Since I shaved, it has continued to grow a little bit of stubble. Crossing my fingers.
-
Morning ladies. I have been a little quiet lately but have been following. Hope the side effects go away fast and the hair grow fast.
I am sitting in the dreaded breast clinic yet again. So very very much hate this place. I am getting an ultrasound and biopsy of a mass I found in my axilla on the affected side. I am hoping it is just some post surgical thing. More fear and worry. Thanks a lot BC
Hope you all are having better days. -
Jpmomf3......we are all with and praying for good results.
-
It's a seroma, thank goodness! They are going to drain it. Man I haven't gotten much good news this year but that was good.
-
Congratulations....what a relief!!!!
-
Jpmom wow thank goodness finally goodnews
-
So glad it's "just" a seroma" jpmom!
Congrats on the hair, Juneau!
As jpmom said, I hope everyone's SE's are minimal today and hair grows quickly and healthily (is that even a word?) BGC for me tomorrow. Had more fatigue this past weekend but used it as an excuse to sit down and work on a patchwork (quilt) top that I cut out, oh, over 10 years ago... SO the floors are fairly full of doggie hair but the quilt top is coming along! I'll take that. -
Yah, glad to get seem good news in a year full of bad news.
Phhht, I am all for letting chores slide and dong something enjoyable these days...
Now I just need to figure out what to do for an hour before my rads session. Retail therapy comes to mind... -
Jpmomof3....I have a quick story about retail therapy........you have to know me (my friends will attest to it) I used to be a bit of a shopaholic, to say the least. About a month
After my dx, one Sunday I was so down crying, feeling sorry for myself, the works. Then I had a brainwave....retail therapy, that will cure my pity party. Got into one of my favorite stores, but within five minutes I was crying uncontrollably.....I was home again within half an hour. I have to say now though, I'm not a shopaholic anymore, but I do enjoy retail therapy again, if and when I really need something new.....enjoy it ....works wonders sometimes. -
Great news JP! Funny what makes for good news these days but take it and run! Just had rads #14...am really good with that breathing device..maybe I should take up scuba diving
. Hope everyone has a great day with no SE!
-
jpmom... great news. Funny what gets us excited nowadays eh? Who would've thought a seroma could be a good thing.
juneau... great news on the footie. If its on I will for sure look out for you.
Dont have time to address everyone today but hoping all and any SE's are minimal.
Happy Birthday halfcan.
We are off to friends for more Turkey today - was at our neighbours for turkey dinner last night. Still I aint cooking or cleaning up so all is good.
Being from London, England we dont celebrate Thanksgiving... but this year I am so thankful for having all of you - even though it sucks we are here. Thank you.
Peace and Love xxx

Scottie, funny how things affect us. I hate shopping. Can't stand crowds and it dries my eyes and tires me out. But I deserve having treats... Ha! Got some hair goop. My chemo curls are getting crazy. Was looking at all the hair dyes. I have a lot more gray than when I went into this. At some point I want to disappear them.
-
I have lost half my head of hair to Letrozole , but Tazzy asked her MO who said it should return after finishing L....4 1/2 years to go. Yeah!!!!.....you sure do deserve treats, and then some. The difference between you and me ...you bought hair goop....I would be buying new shoes, boots or some kind of new outfit......lol. I am Scottish, as you probably guessed. My husband used to say, "I thought the Scots were supposed to be frugal"
"Boy, of all the scots I had to marry"....lol -
jpmom - so happy for you about the seroma news - what a relief! Enjoy playing with your hair!
To all others - big hugs!!!
-
jpmom: very good news!!!
Well, going in Weds for Taxol #6 and will get the results from my echocardiogram last Thursday. The tech said that my heart looked to be doing good and I figure if it was bad, the doctor would have called me by now.
Hoping minimum SE's or none this week for everyone!
Take care.
-
Jpmom .. Happy that things are good -- sorry you have a dermis though.
Juneaubugg, congrats on the 6 years of sobriety ... That is a great accomplishment and something to be so proud of.
(((Hugs))) to all my friends on BCO and Happy Canadian Thanksgiving. -
Hi all. Sorry I can't address everyone, I have a hard time keeping up! But I am glad that we are here together and wish everyone wel!
its day 3 after my lx/snlb and feeling ok but uncomfortable. Having issues sleeping, just cant get comfy. Hubby helped take the bandages off (ok'd by doc on day 3) and I almost passed out whenI saw it. But its not too bad. Took a shower and made me feel much better. How did u wait for the path results without going crazy? I keep thinking I made the wrong decision going with lx and dont know what to do... my mind is spinning and I cant make it stop. -
Chrissera - please don't second guess yourself, you made the best possible decision for YOU. I didn't have the option of a LX, but I did choose not to remove the right one. Again - not the same decision that alot of the other women have made, but the best decision for me.
-
jpmom - good news. Congrats.
-
I just want to send a big hug to everyone in the group. I hit my first wall today of digust, not caring, and being fed up today. I'm sure there will be more walls in the future, so I'll gird my loins.
But in the meantime, thank you all for being there to read my rants and bad jokes. I'm here for you too.
-
Sorry scorchy- it happened very deeply to me on Saturday, my poor DH got a teary, ranting earful. I really felt discouraged, SEs of rads and truly mortal.
( with a warning that although my pollyana ways have really taken a hit this year- I did get happier) A walk helped, a comedy helped and making a date for dinner on Sunday night with some friends helped.
We also planned a trip in May, which I think will really help DH's spirits. ( although I kinda spoiled it by saying I thought I should buy trip insurance. Ive got to watch those negative outbursts)
I hope you get some non virtual hugs today also. -
Chrissera, try not to worry about what is next. I had to wait a long time for my pathology which is the end was not exacatly what I was looking for but my BS says she is glad we went that route as it gave her the chance to really see the lump, nodes etc. which she says may not have been so easy if it had been a full mastectomy (and in my case a modified radical). We really know what we are looking at now and I have no problem at all with going the route I went then. I was not allowed a shower for a week!
-
mairanelizabeth, I didn't need any drains so a shower was my reward according to BS. I will get path results on Monday at postop visit.
Thanks for the responses , I just am feeling when I look at it that I made the wrong choice. Feeling very emotional today... maybe that is my problem...
Sending HUGS to all. -
Chrissera - I don't believe there is a "wrong" choice or a "right" chioce. There are options, each of which has it's pluses and minuses. This surgery may have a shorter recovery time, but need rads, that one may be a bigger surgery with longer recovery time, but no need for rads... either one may need more surgery to get clean margins or for recon, and we don't know until we've done what we've done and got our results back, then in time we may find that we have le, cording, recurrence... and we deal with that as it comes. We make the best choice we can at the time and then readjust as needed.
You made the right choice with the information you had at the time.
-
Crissera, waiting til Monday is a long time, it sounds really hard. I agree with Cindy, there's no right choice with this, so try not to second guess yourself while you wait.
jpmom, I'm so glad the axilla turned out the way it did. Sorry you had to go through that scare.
Scorchy, thanks for the group hug. I enjoyed your recent rant about pink Cuisinart lady.
I didn't think it would be possible but I actually feel worse after Taxol than I felt after AC. At least in the days after AC I slept a lot. Today I just laid in bed all day without the energy to get up, unable to sleep, with pain just flickering from one spot to another. I felt like I was dying and I didn't even have the energy to cry about it. One of the worst days so far.
-
Chrissera- there is no right or wrong decision. I doubted my decision for a while. But i know that i made the right one for me and my family. You just have to be confident that you made the best one for you. All my best to you. We are here for you.

Wed will be 3 weeks since my surgery. It seems like there is still more pain than I expected. I feel like Im so tight in the chest. And my back between my shoulder blades is always sore. How long till that pain is gone? Does it ever go all the way away? How is it then when they start to fill the expanders?
I did not expect pain in my shoulders. It seems like my right shoulder more, feels like it pulls out of the socket or something...wierd pain.
The left, where the lymph nodes were removed, I think I have that cording. i have two like tendons or something that stick out in my armpit when I try to stretch out my arm. I can feel it pull all the way to my wrist.
I know that is common and my surgeon generally sends his patients to PT. How painful is it to work out? How long does it take? -
I can't answer to the fills but I went through the cords. Mine did the same thing in my armpit and down to my wrist. I just kept trying to stretch it to a bit uncomfortable and it took quite a long time and then it was gone. I liked using a wall and run my hands up it. Just don't overdo. I still have plenty of numbness even down at my wrist but not that awful pain.
-
Miranda, I also have cording. My PT stretched and massaged my arm for about 45 minutes at my first visit. It was painful, but I had a massive decrease in pain immediately afterwards. I have seen her a second time, and she spent most of that session massaging my ALND scar. I am seeing her a third time, I'm not sure what she will do this time.
(I have taken Advil before each appt.) The appointments have been one week apart, and each time she has given me stretching exercises to do at home. She expects this third appointment to be the last one I need for now. I know everyone is different, but I'm doing well.
Also, even though the massages were painful, she was gentle with me - no sudden movements, etc. and she talked to me the whole time to make sure I was ok and not in too much pain. She is also a lymph edema specialist, so I trust her with my arm. -
Miranda- as far as the fills are concerned, those are pretty simple. Your PS will place a magnet on your expander to find the port. Then he places a needle into the port. It is mildly uncomfortable. You may want to ask for lidocaine jelly to rub on prior to the fill. It works wonders for me. I have had 4 fills since 9/11/12 the first two were 100ccs each the last two were50ccs. You will feel tightness for about an hour. I take tylenol before my fills too. Good luck on your first fill.
