I love decorations for anything especially Christmas it makes me feel so warm and cozy to see people put lights and trees up and such a wonderful feeling in te air. Even when it's cold. Even now we have Halloween lites up and a pumpkin light in the window and it's a nice calming effect.to me.

❥ ❥ ❥ ILLINOIS LADIES ROCK ❥ ❥ ❥
This includes many folks here that are not doing the walk but have donated to the team* or individuals on the team. Our team has reached "Pace Setter" status. We will be recognised at the event.
BTW on Monday I will be briefly speaking (2 minutes) at the State of IL building, comptrollers press conference as a survivor/volunteer for ACS. Briefly talking about why I volunteer.

Thank you to everyone in response to help with the hormone therapy. I'm not too familiar with the hormone therapies that are out there except for Tamoxifen so I don't know what Al is. I suppose my onc is putting me on Tamoxifen because I'm premenopausal. My ovaries haven't shut down with chemo like he thought they would since by BC is driven by estrogen (I am still getting my period). I guess that's ER+. Gosh, I thought by now I knew all the lingo.
Hopefulhealing....are you still on Tamoxifen? I've heard the night sweats are pretty bad!
Joan, thanks for the link to that website. I will have to take a look at it.
LoriBach, I just had my 3rd treatment of TC last Thursday. I thought it would get worse with every treatment but it actually isn't too bad. I've learned how to manage the pain better and what medications to take for what. Good luck to you!

Hello ladies - my onc told me last week, that, and I quote "you have not yet reached that time". And I said "what time?" she said "there will be a day that you wake up, go thru the whole day, and not once think about breast cancer".
Today is has not been "that" day. -

RoulaG I'm on this site every day so I do think about it… just not about my breast cancer. I'm done with my breast cancer till someone tells me otherwise (except for the ESD
)
You'll get there.

Shannie I just switched to an AI (aromatase inhibitor) because I finally got through menopause. I started on them in June. And you are exactly right about being on Tamoxifen because you are premenopause. I am sorry to say for me the night sweats didn't improve a lot while on it. But it did cycle where sometimes not as bad. I have found keeping the room cool and a fan blowing on me helps. I still get the hot flashes some with the AI. So if you do have them maybe you could try those things. Good luck!
Roula I am with you, I haven't even come close to that time. I keep thinking if I ever make it through recon maybe I will get there.
-
Shannie if you are premenopausal you can take luprin to shut your ovaries down (temporarily) and go on an AI (aromatase inhibitor: Anastrozole, Falsomax, Aromisin, etc.) or just take Tamoxifen. If you do go through menopause/chemopause and stay there then you might be switched to an AI. Or you might be on tamoxifen for 5 years and if by the time you finish you are in menopause they can put you on an AI for 5 years. There are reasons for all these choices. Your onc can explain it better… but I have never heard of Tamoxifen AND Luprin at the same time.

Lago - I love that "I'm done with breast cancer"! I have to remember that.

Anyone else a fan of "Parenthood?" It's a truly wonderful show, and this season one of the lead characters has been diagnosed with BC. At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about this because, of course, this hits so close to home, and most things "medical" on TV are so inaccurately portrayed. But then I read that the wife of the series creator is a 2 year survivor of BC and that's why he decided to do this storyline. He's also the guy behind Friday Night Lights, one of my all-time favorite dramas.
I do think the cast and the writing on this show is stellar so I am going to watch, despite my DH's concerns. Ironically, tonight's episode made a point of showing how the character's DH was trying to stay positive and protect her from everything, even discouraging her from looking up stuff on the Internet that might upset her. My DH and I just looked at each other remembering those days when he'd find me at the computer, crying, and would try and convince me to just turn it off.
Not sure I could have watched this a few years ago, so it reinforces to me that I am emotionally stronger than I used to be. Sure, I was teary-eyed several times! But that's okay. It's been very respectful and truthful so far, and I'm really appreciative of that. -
I am. The previews from last week pissed me off. (c: I guess I'll have to give it a chance.
-
I expect the story to be a little rocky. But that's a pretty accurate portrayal, really.
-
Rene: I totally agree with you. My eyes were a little watery a few times, but overall I think they did a pretty good job. The first BS was a butthead....My BS has a horrible bedside manner when observing her, but she is the kindest, warmest, caring person you would ever want to meet. My first consultation was 2 hours long. She only does consults after 5 and on Saturdays. She wants it to be very private and devotes the time you need to make a decision that's best for you.
My DH never watches that show, but yesterday he did. It should be interesting to see how they play the story out. Hopefully, they'll keep it real.

Hi everyone. Good luck with the walk. I wish I could join you but I am hopefully finally getting rid of these TE's that week. Then I can be done with this breast cancer.
Roula - sorry we could not meet up with you in person this week. Hopefully we can get together again and you can join us. How's the recovery going?
Hi Shannie, I am on tamoxifen with no noticable side effects. I grew up in Mt Prospect - are you near there?

If in our daily life we can smile,
if we can be peaceful and happy,
not only we, but everyone will profit from it.
This is the most basic kind of peace work.

Wow !!!!Don't know about you all up North, but we had so much lightning and thunder last night....not totally sure how "good" my sleep may have been. Well, sounds like there are a couple more days of this. Still wonder and wish we could have had some of this oh so great rain during our drought...but then of course, it wouldn't have been a drought.....when will I completely learn and understand that I can't have it all.
Rene' it is nice to find yourself pretty much on the other side of some of the harsh parts of life. I imagine we all thought the "shadow" would always be huge, but over time we are able to balance that with so much gratitude for the sunshine and happiness, love and beautiful events that take place....and the shadow gets so much paler. It is nice to co-exist with who we are.
Hope you are all staying dry and are going to have a wonderful Wednesday....which is the only kind to have.
Hugs, Jackie

Happy Wednesday! Watched Parenthood..... pretty good, guess I won't give it up! (c:

Downstate gals-hope you are all safe, heard you had tornadoes and ginormous hail yesterday.
Watched Parenthood-i'll have to zag to your zigs, I wasn't impressed, but that may be because I didn't have a spportive t.v. family or a dh trying to help-but I did have all of you
I also attended the funeral of a good friend yesterday which had me a blue funk. She was only 49 yo-struggled with anerexia for 30+ years until her body simply couldn't fight anymore.
On a happier note, it's Wednesday-I think I can see the weekend from here!
-
spunky- So very sorry to hear about your friend. Hugs and prayers.
Ditto re downstate!

Darn missed it last night. And my DVR has been very temperamental lately, so I doubt it was recorded.
Deborah - I had to go to my PS to drain fluid from under my arm pit. I will definitely make (unless something else comes up) the next get together. I really want to meet the ladies that are going thru bc, I believe there is a sisterhood in all of this. -

Get together..... what did I miss? (c:
BTW, Cami how are you, where ya be?
-
A few of the newbies in Western Springs met for coffee so we could compare stories! I don't know why they are so many of us in such a small town. I hope to meet more of you at a future get together.

Hi Debroah, I went to Prospect High School and now I live in Arlington Heights. Did you go to PHS? That's great that you didn't notice many side effects on Tamoxifen. I'm hoping I dont' have many.
Lago, when I meet with my onc in mid-October he wants to discuss the hormone therapy more in detail but he did say he might want to put me on both. I will bring up Al too.
I have always watched Parenthood and really like the show. Last week I fell asleep the last 10 mins and the next day my sister asked if I watched the show and I told her I fell asleep. So she told me what happened so I watched it last night and the story line hit home and I thought they did a pretty good job.
