Chemo or Surgery First?

My mom was just diagnosed with Stage II B breast cancer with node involvement and is estrogen positive. She plans on having a mastectomy and complete node removal on the right side. Her doctor gave her the option of doing the surgery first and four months of chemo or chemo first and then surgery. Any thoughts on which is better?

If i had it to do over, personally i would do the chemo..

Just gives you more time to research the bs etc

Chemo is pretty standard. I went for three consults they all recommended same tx.

Plus if she decides on TE as part of recon, just gives her less time having it overall

I did chemo first. Seeing the tumor shrink on the ultrasounds gave me confidence the treatment was working. Best of luck to your mom.

Yes, I've heard that too. Chemo first means they can confirm the drug is working.

Hi - I had the same diagnosis in July and elected for chemo first. I personally wanted to know the chemo was working before they removed my tumor.

I wasnt given the option to do chemo first. I have invasive lobular. Healing hugs to your mom.
