Lago I'm glad things went well for u'r husband, but a super long day for u, I'm sure, I hope u can get rest tonite.
Kl I have no idea where u'r going and I don't think I'm super far from there either--I just know u'll have so much fun---getting all that pampering is so much funAnd being with everyone is always fun. I'm so glad u'r going. Have fun and u will

Lago - glad to hear that all went well and is behind you. Hope hubby's recovery goes well.
-
lago - Glad your DH is doing well after surgery. The surgeon is right, PT will be the hurdle for him. I had a serious knee injury that required very painful PT to recover. Since I didn't want to limp the rest of my life, I kept returning. You'll need to find ways to motivate him to endure the pain.
-
lago-glad to hear all went well.
-
Thanks everyone. Will be driving DH to PT in 30 minutes

Karen.....as the excitement builds and builds. I just think.....beautiful memories to cherish. The milestone of finishing rads.....wonderful, but probably hard to give a whole lot of weight with what is coming on the heels.
Lago.....thinking about your Dh. He will have a rough time getting himself in the mood for the challenge of helping to cause plenty of pain and discomfort. Guess it is something like txs. The reward comes, but there has to be some suffering and don't want to do's first. Hoping it all goes well.
Nice day outside. All the rain helped so much to green us back up, but the temps --- just how the air feels out of doors easily convinces for what is coming. So glad we have that yard machine. Dh spent all day yesterday putting it together.....and as usual, there are a couple of little things and some adjustments before it makes it debut'. Hard to believe I won't spend the next two and a half months outside blowing nuts out of the yard, along with constantly dropping leaves. Around here they can easily get a foot or more deep......so you have to do something.
Hope you all have a great day and success with everything you do......
Hugs, Jackie

Lago~ Good Luck with DH. Remind him to stay ahead of the pain, even if it is OTC meds. Glad the surgery went well. Keep us posted on his rehab. (the therapist in me will of course be cheering him on!).
KJ~ I am so excited for you! It all sounds so nice! I wish you and your family a fun-filled and safe weekend!
Have a great day ladies!

I know a lot is going on around here,
Lago u'r poor DH I've heard lots of pain--so I feel bad for him
Oh girls let's face it I'm not awake yet--I was up during the nite wi my everpopular Diaeehes Blah so I need coffee.
-
Good morning everyone. I hope you are enjoying this beautiful day.
Lago - I hope everything goes well with DH. I dread having my DH not feeling well, because he is such a baby. He gets constipated sometimes and it is the end of the world to him. I hope yours handles pain better than mine.
Tomorrow I go in for my BMX with immediate reconstruction. I don't feel scared or anxious, I am numb. I think the relief of having these things removed is helping me feel at peace with this surgery.
Many hugs and much love to all of you wonderful ladies. -
Got DH some better meds today. He seems fine. Passed out on the couch. He said it feels much better than yesterday… and that was after PT. He still plans on driving to work tomorrow. I told him he can't if he's still doing the pain killers.
Have that liver scan tomorrow. Lets hope it's my last. These things are $$
-
Roula good luck tomorrow. I think it is so normal to be numb. This is not something we could ever imagined would be happening right. I am glad you are at peace.
-
Karen-I hope you have the best, best, best time-enjoy every minute.
Roula-I will be praying for you and your medical team. Are you at Rush?
-
Roula I wasn't scared either. Even my heart rate was low. You'll do great. Will you be at Rush. I'll be there all morning tomorrow.
-
Lago, glad to hear that things are going well for your DH after shoulder surgery. My DH had his rotator cuff fixed several years ago. They could not to do the anthroscopic on him since the damage was too severe.... too much water skiing! So he got the big knife and a shoulder full of stitches. Hope your DH got by with something less invasive.
Roula... good luck tomorrow. Hope that your recovery goes well.
We are headed out on a road trip back to SD to go to my high school reunion this weekend. Going to break it up into a two day trip so I won't be spending too many hours sitting on my butt in the car all in one day. We figure about six hours a day with plenty of stops will make for an easy drive. Three more weeks in this darn back brace!
-
Thank you ladies - I will be at Hinsdale hospital - there was a long waiting list for the PS at Rush and Northwestern, so I opted for the PS my BS recommended. He also has privileges at Rush but I opted for Hinsdale cause I live literally two minutes away over the bridge. That way my babes can come visit me while I am in the hospital.
From what I have heard from the women in the area he is very good at what he does. I am having immediate implants and not TEs. He is also taking a muscle from my back thru the mastectomy incision, so no cutting on my back. I guess he travels around the country teaching this new procedure to other surgeons.
How bad will the recovery be? Was it difficult for you ladies who have had mastectomy and reconstruction? I am hoping I will do ok, I had two c-sections and was off pain meds and driving 6 days later. -
Roula I'm not typical but there are others like me. I didn't take any pain meds, didn't use the pain pump or even take a tylenol. I was sore but not in pain. I did have nodes on both sides (10/4). That was the part that was sore. I have no idea what to tell you about the muscle they take from your back but they really do provide you with good pain meds. They will not let you go home till your pain is managed.
My issue was I had really bad nausea from anesthesia. Odd since I had none with chemo. I like to be different.
-
Roula~ good that you are at peace. I think "numb" is a good place to be. I remember feeling that way too and the night before was 4th of JUly for me. It was a great distraction! Sounds like you have a high pain tolerance. I had the "Q-Ball" with BMX.., it kept me numb for the first 48 hours and I think it helped A LOT to not experience the possibility of pain. I was weaning off the narcotics very soon and was completely off after my PS told me I could drive as long as I was not under the influence (much to my sister's chagrin- but regardless, I let her tote me around while she was here)
Joan~ glad to hear you are making the trek and taking your time to get there. You have the patience of a saint with that back brace. I hope you are feeling better and stronger everyday!
I'm having a heck of a time getting my energy back! I truly WANT to get my lazy butt out for walks these beautiful fall-like days but can't seem to muster up the energy! I'm constantly behind schedule (at work) and trying to catch-up is stressing me out which in turm leads to fatigue. I want off of this treadmil and into a swimming pool! Ladies~ Is this my "new normal"??? I'm 15 weeks PFC this Thursday..., am I just being impatient?
-
Wow. operations, tests, travels alot going on the next few days. And u all sound good about it. And Lago u;r husband sounds like he's doing good with all of this. cuz I have heard it's a tough one. ???
Well I did it again--took a nap and woke up and took my morning pills.OOOOOO
-
Roula: Good Luck tomorrow. I will be thinking of you!
Camilegal: I love your pics --you crack me up!
Thanks for the well wishes, Ladies. Then next week I am off to my much-needed spa retreat at the Heartland Spa. (The three day, two-night package I won). Has anyone been there?
-
Camille I so can relate to that photo. I'm so stiff in the morning that some day…
-

and roula goooodluck tom.
-
He's been sleeping all day! He finds the couch more comfortable.

Hugs to Adey and BJ for the loss of their aunts!
I don't post often but I do read the updates frequently and think of you ladies daily!
Met with my onc Monday and all is great. I am nearing the end of my 5 years of Tamox and he wants to move me to another 5 years of Femara. I am hoping the hot flashes get better but hoping I do not get the joint pain I keep reading about! He wants to move me from 6 month visits to annual after a year on Femara so that was good to hear!
Hope everyone is doing ok! Good luck to all of you in treatment/surgery stages.
-
Roula I also had an immediate reconstruction, using abdominal tissue rather than back tissue, but I'm guessing the overall recovery process is about the same. I really wasn't in any pain in the hospital, although they gave me a fair bit of pain meds the first few days. At home, tylenol during the day and one norco for the first 3 nights was plenty. I stopped the tylenol in less than a week. The hardest part was the absolute restriction against raising/using my arms (to keep from stretching the anastomoses before they had completely healed) and, in my case, a restriction against using my belly muscles (to allow the suturing there to heal). Getting in and out of bed pretending to not use my belly while keeping my arms at my sides was complicated and comical.
Good luck. You sound like you're in good hands.
-
Connie, so happy for your great news! We started all this pretty much at the same time and it is a joy to hear that all is okay. You have always been so close to my heart as your kids were so young when all this began. Celebrate, my dear!
Susan
