A Bittersweet Six Years
This month marks six years since I had surgery, one year since my husband Dave died of brain cancer, and also six years since his mom died of cancer (Non Hodgkins Lymphoma). I am so thankful for every day that I have with my boys-to hug them, tickle them, kiss them, and read to them, and to put up with stuff like more boys on Friday nights and legos all over the house. Most nights, we are reading an old copy of The Hobbit that I picked up at my church's last yard sale. Everyone has the things they think of in life as being sweet, and one of mine is the countless awesome books I've read at 25-50 cents a copy. I exercise 5-6 days a week, mostly because I like to feel good about myself, and I could work more on eating healthier stuff. Every night, there's at least one dog and one kid sleeping with me, and it's all good. No one knows what tomorrow holds, so I'm trying day-by-day to capture as much joy de vivre as I can.
I love coming to the boards because there is so much life and humor here in the midst of lives being altered by this thing called cancer. I'm always amazed that many of us see ourselves as not being courageous in this battle. Even though it's something that I didn't choose, I do look at other people's "scared @#$%less reaction to it, and I know I'm a warrior. I think of myself when I get out of the shower and look at my chest, and I chuckle sometimes when I realize that most gals over forty don't look like spring chickens anymore anyway, so why not embrace the warrior attitude?
For all of you today, I wish peace, strength, humor, love and support for you no matter where you are in the battle. I wish you many belly laughs, lots of optimism for the future, and somehow for help to come along if you are in the walk alone. Thank you for being there for me.
Love
Bobbie

What a great post! I do believe you could be a writer if you had time!
You have been such an inspiration with how you faced the trials that life has thrown at you. I'm so glad that you have hit the 6 year mark. For you, they should continue to rack up and your grandkids will wonder what the heck you're talking about!
Thank you for your support through the years, Bobbie. Your advice is always grounded and appreciated.

Thank you for your beautiful post Bobbie! You are definitely a warrior! Even without having had cancer, this title would suit you! You have such a wonderful outlook on life and I feel very fortunate to have you here! Your family is also lucky to have you showing them how to live life to the fullest/moving foreword despite what heart aches may cross our path. Congratulations on your six year anniversary. I feel that congratulations isn't really fitting regarding getting through the first year after your husbands passing. I hope the year went as best as it could. Your family is in my thoughts. You are certainly admired on these boards!

Bobbie,
You are a true warrior. You are an awesome momma and I am thankful that you continue to do well.
My son Eddie's favorite book is The Hobbit. He was 13 when I was diagnosed and is a Jr in college now. Enjoy the snuggles, legos, and kisses. You'll be sending them off to college before you know it!
Hugs,
Lexi

Well said Bobbie, congratulations on the 6yr milestone and thanks for the inspirations.

Bobbie,
I always remember your profile picture with your husband. You both looked so happy in that photo and then I remember his beautiful newpaper write up that gave me a glimpse at how much he loved life. He was so fortunate to have had someone like you with him all the way. Your posts are heartfelt and always so positive. At the very beginning of my journey I was so inspired by your strength and I continue to awe at how you have handled every adversity and continue to send encouragement to others on these boards. They say God won't give us more than we can handle...I'm thinking He must think you are one mighty tough broad
Now enough already, right.
Way to go on 6 years! Stay positive and I'm sending cyber hugs (although not as much fun as reality) to you and your boys.

Bobbie,
You inspire me, girl. I love that you have at least one dog and one kid sleeping with you each night. That makes life good doesn't it!
