Complementary supplements/therapy---what did you take?
Hi everyone!!!!
My Stage 3 friend from Canada was prescribed a lot of supplements from her naturopath (don't know if that spelling is correct): Vit. D., highly dosed Vit. C infusions, melatonin, green tea extract.....
What supplements are you taking to beat this s..t?
Thanks!!!!

In addition to tamoxifen.....
I am on Zometa from my oncologist (infusion every six months) and Lupron injections to shut down my ovaries (every three months I think)
Also...
I am taking metformin and simvastatin, as prescribed by my primary care physician. (Google simvastatin and breast cancer recurrence to read about a Danish cohort study.)
Also turmeric capsules (x2) and baby aspirin (x1) every day
Vitamin D and calcium, Coenzyme Q10, multivitamin some days (not all)
Eating lots of broccoli, cauliflower, other salad items -- almost no sugar, bread, rice, or things that raise insulin levels/inflammation (important to get to and stay at a healthy weight and keep insulin levels low and steady)
I need to get on the green tea, though I haven't done that yet
Oh and I exercise most days -- even if it is only walking for an hour or two

I added vitamin D3.
I took melatonin daily for many years prior to diagnosis. Needless to say, it did nothing to prevent breast cancer. Same goes for broccoli and other vegetables. They did, however, help to make me healthy overall, which I'm sure had a lot to do with how well I did during treatment and recovery.

Its very hard to figure out who to trust
Thinking of adding DIM, i drink a lot of green tea.
And just syarted back to gym seriously. -
One thing is very important -- a lot of this stuff is contraindicated when you are on chemo and rads. So please talk to your doctor about all these things before taking them. For example, I think you are not supposed to have turmeric while on chemo.
My onc uses this Web site to check on whether certain herbs and supplements should be used or not, and if so, when: http://www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/integrative-medicine/about-herbs-botanicals-other-products
