crazyride, get it trimmed. Even a tiny amount helps a lot.
-
crazyride, I am starting to get there. Maybe not quite as far along as you but it is getting wavy and the little clear tips are sticking up and there are stray hairs that are longer. I agree with you though my hair actually looked better 2 weeks ago. I too don't know when to get it trimmed. I cant quite bear to trim it yet. My hairstylist saw me a couple weeks agon when I took my kids in (first time shes seen me since 2011) and said that maybe in 6 weeks or so. I have heard that it helps it a lot to get the messy ends taken off... I am 10 weeks PFC now. My avatar is from 9 weeks. It does seem to take forever.
-
crazyride~ I am feeling the same way!! I'm might have to remove all the mirrors in my house to get past this awful stage. I am 21 weeks PFC and have trimmed my sides 3 times so the top would catch up.
-
I had to get a little trim. The wisps above my ears were making me look like the Gerber baby! Someone stopped me the other day to tell me I had cute hair (LOL). She then asked me where I had it cut. Told her I had it cut at Dana Farber. She was horrified! It was sort of mean but I couldn't help myself...I just blurted it out without thinking. Oh well.
-
Hmmm...it sounds like a trim is in my future. Thanks for all the great advice! Mardibra, I am also a Dana Farber girl so I might just borrow that line if anyone asks about my hair :-)
-
Mardibra - ha ha "gerber baby" is a good one
You will all think im crazy but im 31 weeks pfc today & this was the first day I ditched the wig. Even tho I hate my short curly mess and miss my old hair every day, I can't take the wig anymore. It doesn't look post-chemo anymore, just like a short style I would never actually wear, and I still don't feel like myself but I think the hair is only one reason for that - I think its this whole experience. Anyone else feel like that? I keep waiting for things to go "back" but know deep down that they wont. -
I'm 24 weeks PFC and I'm not ready to ditch the wig yet. Not until it looks like a style I would actually get on purpose. I'm thinking October?
Crazyride - feel free to borrow! -
Mardibra, at 31 weeks mine looks like a style, just not one I would ever choose. Adding a headband or tiny barette on side bangs (I have enough bangs to get them to the side & into a clip) makes it look more like I did this on purpose I think.
I saw Elizabeth Vargas on GMA this morning and her hair is so nice but I still don't have enough to get it on a round brush to smooth it out like that. For now, curly looks better because its uneven & im not cutting anything. -
Bangs? I'm seriously jealous. My hair is pretty thick and I've got some chemo curl going on too. So my hair tends to grow out not down. I've been using gel to tame it but I think I need to find another brand that holds better. After a few hours it looks like s$&@.
-
I am 8 weeks PFC and so jealous of you guys that have so much hair! It is growing, but I'm hoping that when I finish up my rads this Friday it will start to take off. Perhaps it is time I take some more pics because it is probably growing faster than I think!
-
Onvacation, taking pics does help you see progress.
Mardibra, I have the dreaded curl too and it's a process. I use all the john freda frizz ease steps/products, flat iron, and then use curling iron to make it wavy curls instead of the frizzy tight curls I would get otherwise. Im also using Chi protector so heat doesn't damage it, but at least it does look healthy. -
crazyride- I have felt that way already, that my hair looked better a little shorter. Today was a good hair day for me but I feel like I am spending more time on my hair then I did when it was shoulder length. I did get a lot of compliments today but I know that I will go through some more crazy stages before its to the length I want it. I haven't decided if i will keep it shorter or let it grow back to the length it was. I did have my neck shaved already and will probably do that again soon. What I noticed is how bad it looks when I wake up. I have some major bedhead going on!
-
I foresee a lot of bad hair days with the good hair days thrown in. It's like growing out bangs when you were younger or trying to grow out a bad haircut. I use product to style my hair back off my face and I always put my hair behind my ears. If I don't, it looks like someone gave me a reserve bowl cut.
I miss my long hair. I'm not sure when I will get my first hair cut, but I wonder if I will end up picking a different hair style for my final choice as this grows out.
-
Tina and Crazyride,
I'm approaching the same stage. My DH told me this afternoon that I have to start combing my hair - LOL! It's been so easy - shower, just dry my head with the towel, and I'm done. Now I have to start worrying again about cutting, styling, etc. But one thing is sure - no more coloring. I'm done with that. So far no chemo curl either, I'm waiting with bated breath. Oh the joys . . .
-
Got my second hair cut last week. Went with the Anne Hathaway pixie cut. I posted 8 styles and had my friends choose.
I finished my last chemo treatment on Feb 24th .... March - little fuzzies, April - I had bunny fuzz, May - I
had most of my hair.
Definitely thicker, curly and darker. I called it Labrodoodle - my sister called it Karadoodle.
-
I thought you would all appreciate this picture - Kellie Pickler with her friend who has been diagnosed with BC. That's quite a show of support coming from a performer. They both look adorable!
-
LuvRVing~ Thank you for posting this picture!! "Be Bold, Feel Beautiful": from the Oldham Project.
-
I had mine trimmed at 13 weeks. Actually I have my stylist buzz the back and sides every 3-4 weeks. I'm over 1.5 years PFC. Love having short hair. Takes me 5 minutes rather than 25-30 to dry/style.
-
I just trimmed mine for the first time on Friday. Had to get rid of the whispy stuff. Do it. Now I look like I actually have a style! So glad I did it (even though it was hard to get into that chair!)

Hi ladies,
This topic is great! Helps me feel like I am normal to be obsessing about my hair growth
I have gone through 4 round of A/C, and am now done with 2 taxol (with 2 more to go). I am actually starting to see some growth, but it is white peach fuzz more than anything else. There are, perhaps, a couple of darker hairs trying to poke through. I am so excited to have hair, I want to do anything I can to help it along!
Are there any products (scalp treatments, vitamins, etc) that you have found very helpful? I will wait until I'm done with the remaining two taxol to start taking any supplements (as per my onc's orders). So excited to go topless as soon as possible!
Faith
-
you will get there faith, I was where you were about 12 weeks ago!
-
I am counting down til my first real hair style since before chemo! 20 days to go!
I hate that I care this much about my hair. grrrr -
I am 10 weeks PFC. I have slightly more hair than Kelly Pickler- not much but it is dark all over. I can't imagine what it will look like someday.
-
I am watching Obama speak and he has more hair than me! SIGH
-
Got mine trimmed and colored today (9 weeks). I love it!
-
Did anyone see Rhiannaks hair cut on the MTV Awards tonight. Totally short pixie. I think we are all right on trend ladies!
-
I had my first trim today. I really should have had it a few months ago. My hair started growing back around my 2nd taxol treatment in Feb. of this year. It was really weird. I lost my eyebrows and eyelashes, but my hair started growing. lol The sides and back are growing really fast, but the top is slow. Now if the top grew as fast as the rest then I would not have needed a trim. oh well. At least I have hair! lol
-
30 weeks PFC and still have hardly any bangs! It is also still very fine and kittenish feeling!
-
Yay for everyone who had their first trim, feels good but scarry hey, for you "looking" for hair... I used to obsess, look in a magnifying mirror several times a day, rub my head to feel the little hairs.. now finally I have a headful woohoo.. Growing like crazy since I finished Herceptin
-
I love all these stories about new hair growth! I will keep rubbing my peach fuzz and thinking positive thoughts
And yes, we are right on trend - Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron. Short hair is definitely having a fashion moment right now!
