How do you figure out your Cancerversary?
Comments
-
Is it the date of your diagnosis or the date you finished treatment? I'm asking to figure out if I am approaching the two-year mark or not. I think, from a statistic perspective, it is from the date of diagnosis, but I'm not sure.
-
Depends on each person,
I do celebrate, if I can say this word, by the date I got the cancer out of me, the date of my surgery.........
-
I take mine the day of diagnosis, since it was the day, that divided my life into ''life before BC, and life after BC''!!!
-
Regarding statistics, when they collect data, they look at date of diagnosis to determine a beginning point and then they look at overall survival that includes mortality from everything. Disease free survival is determined from the moment active treatment ends until there is a relapse. So if I were calculating the two year mark, it would begin with the date you finished treatment, whether it be surgery or adjuvant chemo. Good luck!

My onc goes by the date of diagnose. I go by my surgical date, which was two weeks later.
-
Cool - thanks for the responses. I'm going for the actual statistic viewpoint, so I will go with the disease-free survival of when I started treatment, which was Dec. 14. Although Nov 18 will always be the day my life changed.
-
I use the date of diagnosis, with numerous other "anniversary" date details. Such as this January will be my two year anniversary from chemo, this September will be my first year without Herceptin, August 23 was my two years since surgery, and July 26 was my official "two year anniversary". I consider them all important anniversaries.
-
Interesting! I agree - they are all important anniversaries. I'm just trying to figure out how I'm doing vs. the stats.
-
My surgeon goes by the surgery date, although my dx was 3.5 months prior to surgery.
-
I go by diagnosis date.
-
Nothing hard and fast about this one. I go by my dx date . It's whatever you choose though I imagine statistics may look at different for different purposes.

I've decided I'm going to use my surgery date since this is when I consider my to be disease free...the day they took the cancer out!
-
The way I see it (and that would be from a non-statistical point of view,) there is nothing about the Dx to party about. Now, getting it out, or starting treatment to attack the B/C, THAT is worth a little celebration. Really, it is just up to the individual, so pick your own day to observe/celebrate.
