Good morning ladies ... Hope ll is well for you today!

My sister and her family are in town for the long weekend, I'm so excited. I feel as if cancer sucked my summer away and am looking forward to four days with them.

Her grandson (2) and granddaughter (5 months) have a cough.

Do I ask them to move to a hotel? I practice good hygiene, washing my hands lot, have Lysol spray and wipes all over the house, have face masks and will not be holding them...just being in the same room brights my day.

My DH is worried but I feel even if they stay somewhere else, I'll be with them all day anyway. Suggestions, advise, opinion, experience...

I have treatment today and was going to ask my onco, but I know the wisdom of you ladies too!

    Enjoy this beautiful day!

    (((((C-squared )))))) good vibes today.

Camille....wow!!!! wish all that stuff still wasn't going on.  At least you can get a little levity from it, but I've always said.....it's amazing what you can do when you have no choice.  You seem not to have a whole lot of choice right now --- hoping and praying you find the combination to getting all this handled.

Grace --- I'm a poor one to give advice as I see it pretty much like you.  I don't think I could keep too much distance between me and those I love.  You have it sounds like pretty good measures in place.  The coughs...are they from uri's or just allergic reaction to something.  No escaping germs anywhere.....just have to do what you can to minimize them and hope it works. I wish you well and I also wish you lots of joy.

    Hang in there Adey !!!

    Hugs, Jackie

    East Peoria, IL here

     Diagnosed in July 2012

Had first surgery Aug 8 with a rexcision on Aug 31

    ER/PR +, Her 2, neg

Oncotype score 49(not sure what this means for me as I go on 9/4 to the med onc)

Will be having radiation therapy over 33 treatments, which doesn't bother me

I don't know if it means chemo or not since I am leaning towards no chemo at this point for a variety of factors.

Happy Birthday, Rita.  You are one of the kindest and most compassionate people I know.  You have always been solidly there for those who needed you....even during times that were profoundly sad for you.  Although you live miles and miles away, I consider you a dear friend.  We were diagnosed at about the same time, traveled on that journey together, but we have also traveled the journey of family fun and love, good books, retirement from teaching and memories of our moms during their last days.

I just wish I could love catfish so we could get together for a catfish dinner, but hey I hate that ugly face on the fish.  Paul and I went to Peru, Illinois last Sunday and were looking at the map and Bloomington is not that far from Peru.  Maybe one day I will mozie (spell check won't touch that word with a suggestion)  on down there for fun and you can have catfish while I eat shrimp.

Happy Birthday, sweet Rita and thanks for being you.

PS:  As always no pretty cake.  If any one can post a picture of a catfish cake, I would be amazed and grateful!

    Love, Susan

HeidiDisney...so glad that you found us, but sorry that you have to be here. I wish I had known about this site when I was first diagnosed and throughout my treatment. You will find a lot of support here and a number of very knowledgable and compassionate friends who really "get it". Your appointment with your MO will likely give you a lot of information and a plan for what comes next. The uncertainty about my treatment plan was tough for me to take. I felt much better once we had a game plan. I hope that will put your mind at ease. Keep us posted on what happens with the MO and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

heididisney the Oncotype is a test that actually looks at the DNA of the tumor.  It helps predict the need for chemo and has different levels.  So based on the outcome of the test, your grade, stage ect. your Oncologist will be able to help put together a plan as to whether chemo is the right answer for you.  You will find that you can be real here. You can vent, cheer, cry and say whatever is on your mind.  We get it.  It is not a pollyanna pink journey. It is real and scary but with the love and support you surround yourself with we each find our own way through it.

So a high oncotype score doesn't always mean chemo?  The book my doctor gave me seemed to indicate that chemo was expected with a high score.

HeidiDisney, let us know what your MO says. I was told no chemo and then four days later the oncotype results came in and the MO told me it is my decision now since I am in the "gray zone" (my score was 20). I decided to do chemo. Had 33 radiation treatments after that. The whole thing sucks I have to say.

I talked with my parents and we're going the no chemo route regardless because of all the problems I had with a colon perf-almost died three times and spent 3 mos in the hospital with that two years ago.

My BFF's husband is an RN and talked to me about the side effects that they don't tell you about-neuropathy and the like.  That is not something I want to put myself through.

I am just anxious to met with Dr. Prager and get that meeting over with and get on with the radiation therapy.

Kind of late, but Happy Birthday Rita--I hope it was great.

Hi Heidi-Welcome to our side of the world--sorry u'r here but it's a good safe place---wait til u talk to u'r onc. before any decisions are made--I'm not advocating chemo or anthing else but it'sgood to have all the facts and of coirse ake sure u tell about u'rcolon--(which sounds awful) so sorry about that. But whatever the decision we're here and u'll find all kinds of women with so much knowledge of this awful disease it will actually be comforting

Oh wait someone else birthday---HAPPY BIRTHDAY..

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY RITA!!!  Smile

Thanks to all for your kind wishes and support.  The procedure went well.  I think it feels much better to have the TE out of my armpit and the Percocet is keeping any pain at bay.  My plan is for rest (although it is 4:30am -ha!) this holiday weekend.  I'll keep you posted.  Thanks again!  CC

I was MIA because this thread was knocked off my favs.

RITA so sorry I missed your birthday. Hope you are still celebrating.

Heidi Welcome. I agree with camillegal. Talk with your onc. Yes nueropathy is a SE but not everyone gets it and most times it is resolved. I know my onc was ready to reduce my dose if my nueropathy got worse. I got a numb heel. I still have it but not a huge issue. I can still stand on one foot and not fall over.

I am sure they will not give you the same crap you got last time that almost killed you. I would talk to your onc about some of the chemos that are a bit less toxic. How big was your tumor? I too had a big one and no nodes (5.5cm IDC 6-6.5CM with the DCIS part).

Hope your surgery goes smoothly today.
