Cosmetic things that worked for me - sharing girly stuff

I have the hairs on my chin. I just pluck every few days. If I forget to do so, I will end up with some long whiskers, so I make the effort.
As for the Touche Eclat, it wears pretty well, though I did put an Illuminator highlighter (Tarte, I think) over it for some shimmer, as I felt like it was sort of chalky.
I am makeup free for the next few days, in an attempt to get my skin to clear up. I really broke out after one of those foundations, but I guess I won't know which one caused it until I eliminate them all.
I really, really like the shimmery under eye concealers, as they reflect the light off of the dark circles. A little goes a long way, too.
-
Did anyone get discoloration on their arms and face from chemo and if so what have they done about it to make it go away..
-
Some people look so fantastic with foundation. (i think of my Sunday singer)... i just hate it.. i can feel it on my face and do not like it. I do wear just a tiny bit of moisterizer and a mineral makeup and a concealer powder on my eye corners. over the concealer.
I went to the look good feel good class and was amazed how much foundation everyone put on.
I really do like my white shimmery eye pencil.. got it from my daughter.. I think i bought my own.
-
apple, you shouldn't 'feel' the foundation. It should blend right in like a moisterizer. Maybe you need to try a couple different ones if you are interested at all in it. But, if the mineral makeup gives you enough coverage, hats off to you! I don't wear foundation 99.99% of the time anymore, but did when I worked. It protected my skin from pollutants and from drying out. I now have great skin in my old age because of the years I wore it.
-
Apple, what is the name and brand of the shimmery white eye pencil? Still waiting for pics of your new eyes. :-)
-
the name?
it's the cheapest ELF brand.. a pencil that you sharpen.. other budget makeup makers make it too. It really looks great.

someone asked about laser hair removal. Yes it only works on dark hair not blonde or gray. About 10 years ago I did my bikini area and love it. No more ingrown hairs caused from shaving. I am currently doing my underarms as I have a hard time shaving since my BMX. My underarms just do not lay flat like they used to and I have a hard time in parts of my underarm. Will be nice to never shave under my arms again.

Apple has such cool ideas

I have been on hormone therapy for over 5 years now. I had been breaking out and the zits were huge especially the ones on my nose and under my chin. My co-worker did not like what she was seeing so she introduced NeriumAD to me 18 days ago. It worked! My skin is smoother, pores are tigthened, face is brighter. I still break out especially when I stress out and if I do not have enough sleep but my face is much better now. My confidence is back. NeriumAD is made out of oleander plant extract and aloe vera which was discovered by accident by Nerium Biotechnology. I like the cream because it works and 30% of the profits go back to nerium biotech's research. Here is a website for more information....www.lovefortune.nerium.com
-
Oleander extract? Yikes! I wouldn't want oleander anything on my face.
-
I've been using Nerium also for about a month - it has helped my poor chemo skin a lot! Looks less blotchy, more radiant and my sun spots are fading! They use the extract so not poisenous - developed by MD Anderson.

i haven't had leg hair for years now.. my onc. was looking at my ankles and i looked down and practically had fur on my shins.. i started laughing and told her i guess i rarely looked at my legs. I still haven't bought a razor. I told my daughter I'd have to borrow one and she has hidden them.. maybe she put them away.
flip side... my eyelashes are really noticeable.

well, bobby and i finally married on saturday. will share pics as soon as possible but for one thing, i am computer retarded and have no clue how to put out pics online. also, we need to get permission to share the pics. there are a few naked people we need to get releases from. thanks to all of you i look pretty cute in my 57 year old, being treated for breast cancer way and would love to share how unhorrible i look in the pics. the wedding went great. we had an arabian nights theme. i wore a 200nyear old simple white wedding gown with a hip scarf. bobby wore a turban. during our first dance we had some little girls dancing a super simple belly dance. right as we ended with a shimmy the professional belly dancer came in. it was awesome. we had dancing, pinatas bot for adults and kids[ the kids were off on a treasure hunt when the adult pinata was played. we used pull ribbon pinatas which kept the contents[ small shot bottles, lottery tickets, um, cock rings, and wrapped chocolate truffles]from breaking.
anyway, befor finding this thread I was so depressed about many things, one of them, probably the least, being my physical appearance. I am bloated, breastless, the drugs have done horriblw things to my skin, gained 30 pounds, i kept my hair somewhat which means i have about 17 pieces of straw sticking out of my head, muscle tone is gone.
then i found this thread. i wear cute hats and wigs [LOVE my wedding wig]my husband bought me the nu brilliance skin system and the neutrogena microdermabrasion system.[ i soak all of the solution out of the pads and use my own skincare that contains no paraben] i started working out[5 pound versus 25 pound weights] and started wearing makeup, got my straw hair cut short.have lost 5 pounds and am finally doing better. thank you ladies so much for your inspiration. when i can figure out how to send pictures i will. just remember that i am 57 and was never a real hottie,
love you all

Vicky best wishes for u'r new life and u'r wedding sounds awesome--better learn how to do pics. have someone help u. Good Luck
-
Vicky, so glad you are getting your groove back. Be patient. 6 months ago, I was where you were. I felt about 120 years old and could barely make it up one flight of stairs, no hair, no brows, no lashes and TIRED. Then I got a bit of hair and a decent cut, some nice clothes and got back into the gym. 3 months of steady light gym work has done wonders. I feel so much stronger now and the hair has finally grown enough that it just looks like a normal hair cut, short but normal. Hang in there. It WILL get better if you stick with the exercise etc. and it is definitely good for morale to primp a bit.
-
Vickie I'm so happy for you. Sounds like an awesome wedding. You sound so happy… which is probably the real reason why you look so good.
-
Vicky - congratulations. that is awesome to be marrying.
-
Vicky, it sounds just PERFECT!!!! What memories you have given to so many!!
-
congrats. I love to hear of new beginnings.

Hi everyone! I confess that I have only read a few posts on this topic, so forgive me if I am repeating others suggestions, but I thought I would share what I have discovered on my own 7 years out from my chemo. The hardest aesthetic part was, of course, hair loss. It grew out, but, is fine now and used to be average. I just ordered some shampoo by Julien Farel that is supposed to nourish hair (recommended by a dermatologist). Revitalash has made a HUGE difference in my eyelashes and I got my eyeliner tattooed so the lash line looks much thicker. Plus, what a timesaver! Now, I just found out about a product called Viviscal that actually has clinical studies behind it. It's for hair skin and nails. It's a supplement not a drug. I can't believe I just discovered it. Has anyone else used it?
-
ty all so much! [if it were not for this board, and seriously, this thread i would not be married]
My most recent find [3hours ago] is L'oreal true match healthy luminous makeup and the primer. i am in love with this makeup. it is not too pricey and makes my dull complexion look dewy, fresh, and screams HEALTHY. i love it. my most exciting singular makeup find EVER.

Hello all!
Anybody find a more natural hair color with less toxins in it? I was looking at Palette by Nature, anyone try it before, does it cover gray? Since chemo my hair is 50% gray and just finally getting long enough that I think I can wear it out
-
Is this the thread where someone mentioned cute, inexpensive, prescription eyeglasses online? Can't remember (chemo brain!)...
Thanks.
-
I remember that posted somewhere too but not sure where… and I don't have chemo brain so I can't even use that excuse.
-
Zenni eye ware, just checked it out myself
-
Ladies - only two days left on Zenni's BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE offer on prescription eyeglasses!!!
Go to http://www.zennioptical.com/#/?gclid=CMvgqquvx7ICFYeDQgodhmgAnQ
A few hints:
1. You will need your eyeglasses prescription, including any adjustments for bifocals, AND your PD. That's Pupillary Distance, or the distance in mm between the exact center of your pupils. That's usually on your prescription, but if not, you can measure it yourself with a metric ruler. The number is usually in the 60's.
2. Create an online account. With over 4,000 pairs of frames to choose from, it's easy to lose track of the ones you like. When you create an account, you can automatically add frames to "My Favorites" so you can pull them up later.
3. Use the boxes on the left side of the screen to narrow down the frames you want to see.
4. You can also "Try On" frames. Use one of the pictures they've provided, or upload one of your own.
5. If you click on the picture of a particular frame, it will give you all the specific measurements (in mm). Find a pair of glasses you already own, and try to measure them, including frame and temples, as well as lens width and height, and bridge measurements. This will give you an idea of the size that works best for you.
6. All bifocals are created in the bottom 40% of the lens. No substitutions.
7. There are no returns, unless you can prove that Zenni did not follow the prescription you ordered, or gave you the wrong frames. But with frames AND lenses starting at $6.95, that's not much of a risk. I did take my first few pairs of Zenni glasses into my optometrist to check, and he said that the prescription matched perfectly.
I've used them for years. I now have prescription glasses in every color....AND some awesome prescription, bifocal sunglasses, with Swarovski crystals, that were VERY cheap.
My glasses are now some of my favorite accessories! Have fun....
-
Blessings - Very interesting on the Zenni Optical. Do you have any trouble with the frame fit? Don't know if my optometrist would adjust them for me. I see your #5 hint above. I'll give it a try. Might be a good choice for next year when money for such things is going to be way tight. Thanks so much for the recommendation.
-
Blessings - another question. Do you know how to determine lense costs? I see the page header with progressives from $28.90. My optometrist cheapest frames are about $140 and my total costs usually end up about $500 for one pair of progressives. OUCH; don't have vision insurance. Managed not to get RX change this year but will surely need next year and these frames will be 2 years old. I never had much luck with LensCrafters etc and been years since I bought anywhere like that. I guess I'm pretty picky about fit though need this pair adjusted for about 2 months and can't seem to get by to get it done. If I buy 1-2 pair that don't fit/don't like and 3 that do I've most likely made up the difference in opto. prices and have diff. styles to wear. How do you like the sunglasses? That is something I buy only rarely. Have had single vision ones; current pair progressives but several years old.
How do they stand up to wear/tear? Mostly mine are on my face or off for sleep but I have been know being a klutz to run them into side of door frame.
Thank you.

luvmygoats: the basic cost for a pair of glasses, including frames and lenses, is $6.95.
This includes free Anti-Scratch coating, Thin and Light 1.57 Index single vision lenses, full UV protection, a case, and a cleaning cloth.
Shipping (7-14 business days) is $4.95 in the USA, $9.95 International.
Additional costs include: Progressive lenses - $28.90; Bifocal lenses - $23.95 (they don't make trifocals); Premium anti-glare coating - $4.95; Sunglass tint - $4.95; Super hydrophobic water Repelling A/R coating - $8.95; Oleophobic fingerprint-resistant coating - $14.95.
There may be slight additional charges for extremely strong prescriptions.
Also, look at the very bottom of the screen, under the heading "HELP" ...lots of good information there if you're just starting out.
Like I said, I probably have 20 pairs of glasses, in all different colors.
When I was working, I had vision insurance, but even then, the cost of one pair of glasses at the optometrist's was almost $200. After I retired, I paid over $500 for the same glasses!!!!
Then I found Zenni.
I love my prescription (bifocal) sunglasses. I wear them every day. The ones I have are several years old and are in the same great condition as the day I got them. Can't wait to get some new ones in different colors!
Lots of my friends get their kids glasses here, because they're always breaking them or losing them.
-
I have been getting my glasses from Zenni also for many years and have never had a problem -- love them all.
