    Barbe, heal well my friend.

Isabella, geez....can't believe they did that!

Marybe, I'll try to call 3jays this weekend too. My heart hurts for her :(  Thanks from all of us for being such a friend to so many of us.

Oh Isabella!!! I FEEL your pain and frustration!!! In the middle of all MY crap - yes, they did the pacemaker while I was awake!!! just frozen and YES you can see the outline on my boney chest - my insurance cut my payment in HALF!! I won't be able to cover my mortgage!!! I cried on the phone like a baby yesterday and spent the morning faxing things to another province. Hurt to bend down to hook-up the fax line and all and I was a basket case to say the least!! So, yes, I do know how you feel!! Why is EVERYTHING such a battle???? And when we're at our lowest? At it's not that we can't handle things BECAUSE we are low, these are EXTREME things....I mean, seriously? CANCEL a back surgery??????? Cut PAYMENTS in half??? Come on life!!! Cut us some slack!!

Marybe, I guess they lower your heart beat so your heart doesn't have to work so hard, but it must be EXHAUSTING for you!! I mean, seriously??? I got a pacemaker to RAISE my heart beat!!

I hurt for all of you having issues with care, but it reminds me how incredibly grateful I need to be for the immediate, superb care I always got/get when I needed/need it. I know that can turn on a dime, believe me, so I don't ever want to take it for granted. My best vibes and prayers to those healing.

Remember how I was looking all over in FLorida for a snow cone.  Well, these things are not exactly the same, more like flavored shaved ice, but they have these portable stands set up in a lot of shopping malls here.   Great on a hot day.

Barbe I am sorry to hear you are having insurance trouble. I am puzzled though since you live in Canada. I thought your national health insurance covered your needs. A pace maker is only for serious problems and it seems like a real debacle for them to cut payments on life saving measures.   I sure hope you can get some relief, by half, that would be a huge difference wouldn't it?

Isabella, I am so sorry to hear about Kitty. I have dogs that will always have a piece of my heart too, especially my Scruffy and Ernie.

The surgeons office cancelling you is freaking outrageous!!!!! Do you have a newspaper column that helps people who are being treated poorly? Perhaps something like that would help. Or maybe driving a tractor into the waiting room would get their attention.  You have too much to do and don't deserve to be living in the pain I know you must suffer.

    Prayers for all today.

    Love Ginger

Ginger, I love the visual of driving a tractor in the waiting room - priceless :)

Isabella, that's a great suggestion about contacting a newspaper, or a local TV station that has a "we're on your side" type segment.

I knew I shouldn't have used the word insurance..sigh. It's my Long Term Disability Insurance payment that I get just before the end of the month. I was wondering why the deposit was so low and they said they thought the government had started paying their portion now. Um, no. Please give me back half my payment!!!! I should be okay for the mortgage but I do need the rest for the car payment...sigh. Oh well, if you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space. I have financial issues like those of you with co-pays or bad/no insurance, so it's all relative. I just can't work full time right now, so thank God I had LTD insurance at my job!!! I had NO idea I had it until the counsellor they sent me too (because I cried at work - long story) told me to get on it.

The only medical thing we have to pay for is parking. But so do you guys. Even my device will get upgraded to the latest model when they change the batteries. Fascinating stuff, but I want to watch it on my own computer.

Hey, I like the idea of driving a tractor up to the hospital !! But NOT the newspaper thing....I am a very private person, and wouldn't want the whole locality to know my business. I haven't even let it be known in my village that I have bc ! Managed to keep that to myself for 9 years now. Don't like to be the centre of attention.

Having a day out today...everything has come down on top of me...hospitals , doctors, sorting out painkillers, so am off to a big shopping centre ON MY OWN  to take my mind off everything.

Was at hospital most of yesterday with DH, went as his driver, as I have a priority parking card, but went in with him as I didn't want to sit outside in the car for hours. He had a 5 hour appointment , pre-op thing, for an operation on his shoulder...was prancing about from department to department with him. I had to give in after an hour and go and plonk myself in the coffee shop 'til he was done. This is the best bit...HE suggested we go and get a meal when he had finished...and I PAID for it...typical !! That's all the thanks I got !! Was all in last night and had a real good nights sleep !

    Isabella.

Oh Isabella, what WOULD he do without you??? hehehehehee (sometimes it's nice to be truly needed, isn't it?) Was there no chance to fix your own surgery while there or was it a different hospital for you? Uh oh, just had a horrible thought....where is he staying AFTER the surgery?? You are NOT going to house him are you???? When did you become a rehab centre?? Just say NO!!!!

Isabella, I thought of you while watching a recap of the olympics opening ceremonies when the tribute to the British health care system came on and wondered if you'd seen it.  And yes, I know that you like to stay in the background and be unobtrusive, but now may be the time for you to make some waves!  Big, crashing ones!

Several hours last night were rather miserable ones for me--the power suddenly went off a little after midnight on a beautiful, cloudless, full moon night!  This ordinarily wouldn't be a problem but it's dreadful for people like me who use a c-pap machine for severe sleep apnea.   I was diagnosed about 8 years ago and haven't missed a night with the machine since, so now I literally cannot sleep without it.  So, I got up, felt my way into the living room, and sat in a chair, sleepless, until the power finally came back on 3 hours later!  This convinced me that I have to rig up a battery backup for my machine.  Today was our day to keep DGS and Me-Ma just wasn't up to par!

Love and hugs to all, Kathy

Kathy, my brother uses a whole head CPAP contraption, but lately I saw amazingly small ones! Which kind do you use? Do you think you could ever change to the wee ones? I thought they all came with a battery back-up!

Kathy, Have you notified the power company that you have an electrical medical device? My niece does home dialysis on her husband and they get priority to have electricity fixed. She still wants to have generator backup, however.

Barbe, Mine is really small, the machine itself much smaller than a shoebox, and I use the nasal pillows, not a mask.  They are held in place by a strap on the back and one on the top of my head.  Sounds like your brother might have a full-face mask.  And no, they don't all come with battery backup, in fact I don't know of any that automatically do.  I'm doing some research today to see what I can do to provide it for my particular machine.

Wren, no I haven't called the power company but that's also on my list to see if SA would be covered.  Not sure if it would be, since you can live without it, just not sleep!

    3Jays,

I hope today finds you feeling better. I want to tell you about a problem my friend ran into just in case to could help you.   She was having a lot of trouble with her blood sugar being all over the place. It turned out her meter was malfunctioning, it caused her real serious problems until they figured it out.

    Hugs to you

    Ginger

Marybe - so glad the lasix is helping you feel better.  Hope you are taking good care of yourself - I am so looking forward to all the pictures you will be sending from you trip to Europe in October.  Love you my friend.

The onco finally got the insurance to say I could take a different gerneric of the Femara even though I had to go to a different pharmacy to get it and that they would still pay for it.  A am tolerating the new brand much better and can almost feel like I am not a sick person now.  Still have good days and bad day, but at least the are getting to be more of the good days.

You know what? I think if others are like me, they look at their favorite list and if no new posts, we move on ... never thinking that WE should be the one to post!!!

I posted on a couple other threads ... 8/24 was my 7 yr anniversary, and I'm grateful sooo much to BCO for the chat rooms and the discussion boards, which I found later, for making my journey that much more tolerable and even enjoyable. I cherish you all.

3jays, I owe you a call and I'm sorry I haven't done that before now ... I'm thinking tomorrow afternoon sounds good for that :)

    Love and hugs buds.
