Welcome.  It sucks to be Stage III but this group is the best!

I'm glad to see you were already warned about steroids.  I call them dementor drugs because they take whatever worries you and throws it back at you tenfold. The roids keep you up all night so you have plenty of time to obsess.   Many of us chose to use to some anti-anxiety meds to help us through the roughest time.

With Stage III there is no ambiguity regarding whether you should have chemo/radiation etc.  They will throw everything at you and with that comes a certain peace of mind.  You will have done everything possible to get rid of your cancer.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, scared or just curioius about what to expect, this is the place to come. It is the best therapy to be able to post and have so many kind, strong women know exactly what you are going through,

For inspiration, be sure and check out the tagged thread at the top.  Stage III, Five years out Check in.  You'll find so many women who come back every year to encourage us and show us life does go on,

Hi sissy, welcome! I too was a "barely stage 1" until surgery then found lymph nodes. They did their job though.  My chemo was pretty painless until the last 2, then I felt tired and more nausea but I took my pills and got thru it. I think it helps to have had a great staff of nurses, my own private area, a recliner, view of the park, tv and a cold Coke and Lorna Doone cookies. It really helped having a nice environment. Radiation was same, good staff, they made me laugh! Rads went not bad at all, I never felt tired. I was also told to use Bag Balm but ended up using Udderly Smooth, also very greasy and worked great. Found it at grocery store. Stage 3 sucks but doesn't it all? This website got me thru and will continue to get me thru the dark times, these ladies are wonderful and very inspirational!! You will find comfort here!!  Once treatment is over and you get some time behind you, I think you will feel better. I am amazed the I am less than one year since dx and I wake up and not really think about it anymore. I have my surgery coming up next month to get my "girls" and then I am going to set up my new swimmign pool and have a better summer than I did last year!!

1 year ago today I got my path report.  That was worse then the my dx date.  So many surprises. I had a mastectomy, 4 A/C 4 Taxol lot's of radiation.   Today I got my nipple.  It's amazing how your brain let's you forget some of the horrible things you go through, kinda like childbirth.  I feel really great today, now I'm trying to focus on my health (loosing weight) grrr and I'm going to start exercising.   My mother use to say "Don't worry til it's time to worry", so that keeps me sane   Good luck with everything you will do great!

Hi Bugs! Still in a holding pattern for chemo....going wig shopping tomorrow. Hanging in there.....it's all becoming very real now that I'm approaching chemo. I struggle with feeling so uncertain about my future now. Good days and bad, ya know?

Hi came in at breast surgeon , stage 2b however another dr changed it to stage 3a.  My personal dr says if its 3a just barely.  The only difference it made was at the time it seemed better to be 2b than 3c but since I come to this site I can live with either one.  There are so many stage 3 sisters that have many years behind them and I will be one of them.

Hello all .....just an update......I just finished my Taxol treatment #3 it of 12! I'm doing much better on this drug then the A/C.....not as many side effects. I often come back to this thread to take in your encouragement you all took the time to give me! I still and always will appreciate it so much. My next stop after Taxol and my pertuzumab trial is radiation, then continued Herceptin.

Jennifer1, your story is mine exactly ;)

I don't know how I missed this thread and the chance to welcome you earlier. You seem to be doing ok with Taxol. Come back again and ask questions - that's what we're here for.

A belated welcome to stage 3a and I'm glad to hear your doing better on the taxol.  This site is absolutely wonderful...I was stage 2b pre-surgery but came out at stage 3a mostly because of the lymph nodes I think.  I continue to come back to this site for encouragement and boy has it helped.   Good luck with the rest of your treatment.

Sissydi- So glad the taxol is easier to tolerate. I found the same to be true. A/C was pretty brutal.

I remember focusing so hard on the staging too...went into surgery thinking I was stage II and came out as stage III.  Once you embrace the reality of it, it isn't so bad; you just put your head down and carry on.  Just think, I might never have gotten to know all of these lovely women otherwise!

Oh that's fantastic!! Thanks for the update!

Incase you need...bag balm and coconut oil are the bomb for radiation skin....I went through like 75,000 bottles of different lotions and I wish I would have found them sooner (ok, it was more like 30...)

Welcome, Sissy!  I finished rads in July; it's totally do-able and you'll make friends with your rad therapists.

I know what you mean about being freaked out and the good days and bad days part.  One day at a time.  One step at a time.  And like climbing a long hill on a bicycle, we just put our heads down and crank through it.  Look back on how much you've done already--the finish line is in sight.
