I iron part of the sheet. Why does the top part of the sheet always crease and even steam and an iron won't completely get it flat?. My little anal thing for now.
Sunflower, Cruise is a seven day out of Galveston in late October on the amazing Carnival Magic.

OMG, the funniest thing just happened - I caught a mouse, by hand!! Let me back up. I'm staying with my brother in the country in Monrovia while I'm waiting for my new apt. to be available (16 days!). The occasional mouse meets its demise by their 2 cats, but I and my cats are in the basement, so when a mouse wandered in Friday night...
My cats tripped over themselves following it and lost it. Way to go, girls. Last night, it was wandering around while they were all slowly following it across the floor. It came toward the futon as I was lying on it, and I ALMOST reached down and picked it up with my bare hands. Then I started thinking a paper towel might be a better idea, and what would I do with it? And then it disappeared.
Tonight, I came home from work and was disgustedly telling Jay and Paula the dumb cats had made a pet of the mouse and I should go see if it would be joining them for supper. So I go downstairs AND, as I started to reach down to refill the dry food bowls, I saw a tail sticking out. NO FREAKING WAY!!! It CANNOT be this easy! So I grabbed a paper towel and picked him up by the tail and brought it upstairs yelling for Jay and Paula to come and see.
I can't believe none of us thought to take a picture, but we didn't. If it happens again, I totally will. I took it across the road and tossed it in the cornfield. Hopefully, that will be more appealing than finding its way back.
Also, my SIL went down to the basement for something today and found Swiffer up in her Christmas tree that she leaves up. Never a dull moment.

Oops, double post.
-
And the cats are probably mad that you threw away their new toy

blue ... hope you can find something that works for the pain.
-
Blu,
Have you tried massage therapy? It won't do a darn thing for your disc but it will help relax the muscles and may reduce that pain. If you decide to give it a try, be certain that the person is certified.

No sheet ironing, no underwear ironing. Don't know if I even have an iron. What does it look like? Susieq, I think there's a study showing ironing bras may......... I really enjoy this group. You ladies are a hoot (except that you're not into chiropractors). Just like medical doctors, there are some good and some not so good. Saying you had a bad experience and would never go to another chiropractor may not be in your best interest. The next one you try may be remarkable!
-
I was joking about ironing the underwear - I only iron my clothes when I need them eg the night before
-
I go to a manipulative physiotherapist - better than a chiro IMHO. Chiros I've beeen to in the past have ripped me off ie over servicing. My physio fixes me up in a few treatments and I don't go back unless I need to.
-
Susie, I'm with you on not ironing anything until I need it. Why bother if it's just going to get all wrinkled in the closet in the meantime?
My mom used to have me iron pillowcases. I'm not sure if she really wanted them ironed, or if she just wanted me to learn how to iron on something that was pretty safe to give an 8 year old.

What's an iron?
-
Notself, it is this large, hot iron thing that some crazy people like to rub all over their clothes

-
-
Mary - I agree - that's my reason too. But I do keep my work shirts done and wear them more than once. Most of them don't need ironing anyway.
-
Riley - too funny! I am glad your litties have a heart.
On another topic:
I thought rainbows went OVER bridges. THis one goes under. Must be in a different planet.

I iron my husband's work shirts because I find ironing strangely relaxing and he likes the way I iron them better than the cleaners. He will iron them himself if I'm too busy. There is just something so orderly about smoothing out the wrinkles. I iron my linen blouses and an occasional cotton dress, too. I do not iron socks, underwear, sheets, pillowcases or table linens except my old-fashioned white linen table cloths and napkins ... and then only just before using. That's why we have spray starch.
Chiropractors and osteopaths ... Neither, thank you. I have read enough articles about chiropractors injuring patients, including tearing the carotid artery when doing neck "adjustments." I'll pass ... and stay with my physical therapist when my compressed cervical disks start acting up. I know people swear by their chiropractors, but I swear by my PT, so to each her own. I find physical therapy to be magic when it comes to smoothing out my orthopedic kinks.
As far as osteopaths go, they had a VERY BAD reputation in my hometown when I was growing up. My mother loathed them and always told me that if I was in a tiny town and needed medical attention and the only doctor was an osteopath, I should look for a veterinarian because they had more training -- and she wasn't kidding. In all fairness, my former boss who is a Harvard-trained M.D. laughed when I said that, and said that was in the old days -- osteopaths receive much more and much better training now and are really allopaths. He was not against them, but I see no reason for me to go to one.
That's my nickel's worth for the day!

I agree and add my 5¢ to HL. Suggestions to give another chance to a member of a profession that crushed my spinal column, and left me partially paralyzed for several years ( thank Dog for good neurosurgeons) - no thanks.
Athena - you really do make me laugh...rainbows under bridges, ah, I thought they were called ogres? trolls? How many times have we been, ah, stalked, approached, insulted by those colors. In memory of Dreamwriter and the terrible, terrible things someone once said about her photograph, I don't trust phasers. Phasers may work, but prefer ignore. Will take a few pms for the folks with the shiny newer spangledscooters to get your sense of humor. I LOVE IT!

Hi all. Happy Monday. Been off the computer - traveling - for the last two days. We hve a possible wedding location picked out, a Vermont State park for September 2013. Down to two cake places - although i never though I'd be sugared out, if I have one more piece of cake to taste, will scream.
Now that Sunflowers is back, returning to my kitties avatar.
Am planning to do some major rewriting-revamping today, plus phone calls to doctors.
Have a problem with my wrist that is justnot getting better. Anyone else ever had dequervain syndrome? I'm going to try a steroid shot first and then maybe surgery. I can't do anything much with that hand.

I am a perfectionist in some ways, so ironing properly would take me ages. I do it only when necessary. If I had a DH, i'd contract out the work quite honestly, because men really do need to be in ironed clothes. Growing up I was fortunate - the thing was done for one. Still is for my sisters and mother, but livin' in a box and working at a non profit you do it yourself!
Of course, this is all made up - lioness fur hasn't a wrinkle!
Trolls do - they have too many to iron:
Fancy trying to flatten that! You'd neeed a pressing machine or a hammer.
-
I am very impressed at your feline spidey sense (to mix a metaphor). If I hang around long enough I think I'll learn not to be taken in by earnestness.
edited because my autocorrect wouldn't let me write spidey. -
Oh, by the way DHs can iron. Anyone can learn if necessary, ie. no one else to do it.
At the risk of sounding bitchy, our children, male and female, need to learn how to take care of themselves. This includes cooking, cleaning, maintenance of home and hearth, and ironing. We do them no service if they end up dependent upon others for these and myriad necessities. -
My DH once told me the vacuum was too complicated. I think an iron would burn his hands! Lots of retraining and he's better but the iron is still a foreign object. Ha ha.
-
I have seen men sweep floors and iron. I have NEVER seen one vacuum. Oh, but the hours one will spend cleaning the engine of the car - of all USELESS pursuits. And I have seen men have the gall to complain about a stain on a driveway - doesnt that make you all laugh? After the miles of stain they leave on places that really matter, like clothes, tables and sofas...
kayfh - somehow I learned all of these things. In fact, I find (everyone might disagree) that people who get picked up after are often tidier themselves because they are used to things being tidy. I've seen too many cases - especially if the person's parents were untidy. People who grew up with servants can be neurotic about cleanliness and will make sure the toilets are cleaned every single day. I know I have more tolerance for cleaning disgusting things than most because I simply can't stand to think of them as dirty. The big exception is two men I know who grew up in a pigstye. Perhaps because they are architects, they are spotless, and with very little help from the outside.
Edited for typos - no surprise!

OK, there is the vacuuming thing. After my DIEP, DH was supposed to vacuum. He managed to do all the cleaning of sinks and toilets, and he likes doing the laundry (he does it as a matter of course anyway). And he will vacuum the basement. But he hates vacuuming the main floor of the house. The vacuum is heavy and awkward, we have a number of Oriental rugs (I know you're not supposed to vacuum them but I do it on low) and the vacuum is strong so it requires pushing and pulling, even on a low setting. He managed to vacuum ONCE during the time I was not allowed to vacuum. In fact, I vacuumed early (one room at a time) because of the wads of cat hair that were accumulating. I'm sure he would vacuum if we had all carpet or all hardwoods... He just doesn't like rugs and fringes and heavy vacuums. I don't like vacuuming either, but I do it because I like angora rugs less!

oooohhhh...lioness, what a frightening face ( must be the mirror of the soul, if it has one) think ou should hide it with a "pretty" rainbow colored scarf...
-
HL: Your DH loves you more than he can say. A SINGLE vacuuming is itself historical! You are a lucky woman. :-)

-
{{{{{Blue}}}}}much too cute for our troll...hope you're feeling better...
-
ROFL!
-
Athena, I didn't mind him not vacuuming. He emptied my drains and dressed my wounds (and packed my belly wound when it came open). He can be as vacuum-phobic as he wants ... We all agree he is a keeper! (And he is handy around the house, too, since he grew up in the building trades.)
Love the trony, Blue!

I have personal experience with this...men can vacuum. However, they do seem to have a great deal of difficulty seeing that it needs to be done. I think they have selective seeing (like selective hearing, but relating to the presence of dirt on carpets, drapes, fridges, ovens, stoves and clutter anywhere). I am not sure that they can mop. I have no personal direct experience with that one.
My dh is mr. mom. He has been home full time and is in charge of all of the cooking, shopping and cleaning as well as all parenting while I am at work. However, I found that for this to work, I had to be his supervisor, sending him to do each chore, with little to no initiative taken on his part for any of the cleaning. After many years, he has started to take some initiative. Thankfully...
