Road runner checking in:
Friday: 3 points
water: 7 points
weight 220 lbs, 1 point
exercise: 4 points
Total: 15 points.
Boy, do I need to get back into this.
-
Art reception Friday night, so I missed check-in again. Phooey.
2 pts for weight down - broke 215 after hovering around 217 - 220 forever.
7 pts for water
12 pts for exercise, despite my aching back.
1 pt for finally getting to the dr about said back, and got SI joint popped back into place - OMG - pain level dropped by 50% at least.
22 pts total - better
-
Checking it for Robins
Weight - no clue, too afraid to get on the scale - promise to start after labor day.
Water - 7 points - I do well in this arena.
exercise - 2 points - I don't even want to talk about it
Friday Check in - 3 points
Extra - I have really been good about not taking seconds or large portions of food and when at the restaurants am only eating half of my meal and taking the other half home for lunch the next day. - 1 point.
Total - 13 points.
I'm so glad you're feeling better bookart!
Oh, and here's a good one for ya - went to the MO on Wednesday and there are some axillary nodes they've been watching. They're not worried but want to get an ultrasound to double check since it's the side that I had my positive lymph node. The MO scheduler called my radiology scheduler (I've been going to this place for years and have had ultrasounds with no mammography before) and was told that they wouldn't do the axillary ultrasound unless they did the mammo first. I told the scheduler - there is no breast there to mammo - too bad, unless I have the mammogram they won't do the ultrasound. I'm sooooo disgusted - I will go to another equally fine place and actually my radiologist practices at both places but this is ridiculous. Of course a nasty letter is on it's way to the radiology practice!
-
AAargh, Suz! What bogus idiocy! Sorry to hear it.
Roadrunner checking in:
3 pts for Friday
6 pts for water - probably 7, but drank soda one day
8 pts for exercise
0 pts for weight up slightly, sigh
17 total
Birdies, get down out of those trees and let's get moving!
-
Quick hello to you lovely ladies!!
Stuck at the same place as 2 weeks ago...(170.4)...At least I checked in today!
-
Good for you, Zogo - even stuck, at least you are still working at it. I'm yo-yo-ing - starting to think it's the scale! But pants don't fit right, so unfortunately, a lot of it is just me - lots of me. Waah. Doing PT, AGAIN for a bad back. At least that's some exercise. No walking since Monday morning, as one thing after another kept me busy. About to take another short vacation to the beach, so hopefully will walk aplenty.
See ya'll next week, hopefully.
-
OK, Roadrunners, the lost has returned. I've started a new job, with a totally new schedule--I'm now working Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 PM, no weekends, no holidays, no more call, no more 12 hours shifts then up all night. So my entire life routine has been turned upside down. I haven't even been grocery shopping for 3 weeks! So, as of this 3 days weekend, I am committing myself to getting a new routine established, one that does NOT include eating out for lunch 5 days a week. So my points this week are pretty meager:
Friday check in = 3 points
weight 226 lbs == 0 point
water = 5 points
exercise = What's that????
extra credit = got my annual physical done= 1 point
Total= 9 points. At least I know I can do better next week!
-
hi birdies, well I took the summer off but it's after Labor Day so I'm back.
Will check in 'officially' Friday but just wanted to say hi.
Had an appendectomy (laparoscopic) on Monday. Weighed 171 at doc's office.
Sharp pain in lower belly Sat, no better Sun, spiked a temp Mon which got me to call urgent care. Went there, got triaged, and ended up in same-day surgery. CT scan picked up a cyst on one of my ovaries that we are going to watch. Crap. My onc will recommend an ooph and I don't wanna.
Three little holes and I'm so sore, I have a whole new respect for you DIEP girls!
Doctor's orders are no exercise for 3 weeks so maybe I won't report points quite yet.
-
Well, it's Friday. This roadrunner had the day off, so I'm able to report. It's been a hell of a week, and now I have one day off, one day of work and then - YAY - 4 days off!
So..
3 pts for check in
2 pts for weight loss, although I swear either the scale is wrong or the same 5 pounds keep coming and going
haven't been walking since school started, except walking the dogs, and doing some of my exercises for PT (she yelled at me for not doing more, sigh). Also haven't gotten back into the gym, yet. However, this week was installation week, and I walked, carried stuff, climbed ladders, stooped, kneeled, and variously moved my body all week - believe me, my muscles know I exercised.
24 pts exercise
7 pts water
36 pts total - I'll be lucky if I do half this next week, but I'll try.
-

hi NM, good to see you here, too!
Heard an interview on public radio last week that I thought I'd share.
It's Dr. Timothy Harlan, with the Tulane U Center for Culinary Medicine.
He's an MD who started out as a chef, and now he goes by Dr. Gourmet.
He was talking about his book "Just Tell Me What to Eat: the delicious 6-week weight-loss plan for the real world". It was fascinating! Here's his website: http://www.drgourmet.com/ You don't have to buy the book to get great info.

Hi, y'all. I've missed many a Friday, but I'm up late tonight so I thought I would just drop by. I'm fat and kind of depressed about it. Keep losing and then putting on the same few pounds. I don't think I've ever had this problem before - I've either kept a steady weight or gone steadily up or steadily down. Not up and down, up and down. I'm blaming it on hormones. I also think I might have a duodonal ulcer - about an hour after I eat I get a burning in my stomach that feels like hunger, so I eat again, even just a bit. So it seems like I'm always eating. I try to make it healthy and eat small amounts, but it adds up, regardless. If I try to tough it out, it just gets worse. Sometimes cold water helps. I don't want to have to go to the dr and take a bunch of tests. No extra money, and I'm just tired of the medical stuff. I've decided I don't like it. So I'm being a big baby tonight. Waah, waah, waah. Thanks for listening. Good night!
-
hi Elaine, good to see ya! Sorry you're not feeling well, that takes a lot out of you.
I'm up again too GRRR. Not happy with myself. Tried to pin it on reading Julie & Julia - all that wonderful food gave me a mad urge to cook and eat.
Went to a wellness seminar last week. Good speaker. Couple easy take-away points:
Take your weight and add a zero. That's the number of calories you can have in a day.
Take your weight and that's how many grams of protein & carbs you can have in a day.
Split that number evenly between protein and carbs.
So for a 200-pound person: 2,000 calories, 100 grams protein and 100 grams carbs.
Also, if you're going to spend time reading food labels, pay attention to the list of ingredients. The more natural ingredients the better. The fewer preservatives the better (because they can lead to constipation and not losing weight through 'elimination').
NM I'd be interested in your take on the medical truthiness of all that. See y'all tomorrow.

Bookart--I just realized I never said Thank you for the wonderful painting you sent me! It is absolutely georgeous, and I'm looking for the perfect frame for it. I already have the perfect place for it in mind in my living room. That burning does sound like an ulcer, doesn't it? Yeesh, I hope not! You could try getting some over the counter ompeprazole (Prilosec) or similar, take one twice a day for 4 to 6 weeks and see if it helps. That's what you'd be prescribed if you did have an ulcer (along with an antibiotic if you tested positive for H. pylori bacteria). And being tired of the medical stuff, and not having extra money for medical stuff is not being a baby, it's coping with reality!
Badger--I've heard that strategy for calculating calories, protein, and carbs before. It is a good quick way to figure out what you need to MAINTAIN weight. If you want to lose weight you subtract 500 calories , if I remember correctly. So a 200 pound woman who wanted to lose weight would go with 1500 calories, 150 grams protein and carbs. When I run the numbers on my own weight (with the 500 calorie subtraction) I come pretty darn close to what a dietician recommended for me for weight loss. This was a lot cheaper AND quicker!
Oh, yeah---
