Did the washing and shopping before lunch, then decided to catch up on a bike ride I missed last week. I was always saying "my tyres are flat" as an excuse to not go for a ride. Well, I got Steve to check my tires - they were just about flat!!
-
Linda, that is often my dinner in the summer, except I don't bother peeling them and use mint instead of basil, If I have wome whole grain peasant bread that has gone stale, I cube that and add it as well.
-
I've got lots of tomatoes and garlic from the garden. No basil though and what is EVOO? Mr Google to the rescue ... and don't I feel stupid now
Will have to try it now that I have it all figured out. Early wake up this morning ... dog nose in face at 5:45 am. There was thunder and lightening and wind and rain and poor Jake was scared. Pretty intense storm ... neighbors have some trees down. And now I am awake earlier than I wanted to be. But we needed the rain badly.
I foresee an afternoon nap in my future.
-
Thanks, WR, for the hint to google EVOO. I was embarrassed to ask since no one else seemed to question it. Learn something new everyday. Off to church and brunch. Have a good Sunday, everyone!
-
Yeah ... it wasn't just me
-
I am going to crash at all your houses for homemade dinner one of these days...
Off to stay healthy via two punishing hours of exercise at my club.
Is anyone watching the Olympics? I wish NBC wouldn't stack all of the excitment towards the end of the evening.
ETA: Count me in on the EVOO - not a clue! :-)

I am decades behind the times, but I came across this film for the first time just this summer. I plan on showing it to my students some time this year. Was inspired to post it here by Bluedahlia's video.
(And I really am behind the times. I, too, still have the old unsmart phone. And we still don't get cable. And my kids think Billy Idol, U2 and even the Weavers are the big bands out in the world! I keep thinking we should at least get cable so the kids have some idea what everyone else is doing.)

Happy Sunday all! off to grocery shop.

Good Afternoon Everyone!
So far I'm having a very good day. I got two reports in to transcribe and that made me very happy. Just wish I had more work. I'm going to start another marketing campaign this week ... and hopefully, I can find another client. The transcription industry has changed so much since I started my own business years ago.
Hope everyone is having a great day.
hugs,
Bren

Best wishes for a growing business, BinVA.

WR, I was trudging off to work during that storm! It woke me up about 5 and I left for work at 6. There were a few streets in Indy with standing water, as it was coming down too fast for the storm drains to handle. And I was chuckling with glee that it was finally raining beyond the few short sprinkles we've had lately (and the 2 months without rain before that). The basement of our parking garage at work was severely flooded - and it turns out, there are a ton of offices down there! Including Medical Records - rah roh! Computers, printers, faxes, and power strips are fried. They're already planning on stripping out carpeting and drywall and renting dryers. It's a huge mess.
-
OMG Riley ... I can't imagine having to drive in that. Glad you made it safely!
-
Thanks!

-
Going to VT today with my oldest daughter to check out possible wedding locations. Hope its not as hot there as it has been in Jersey. Wishing everyone a great day!
-
YAYAYAYAY - my insurance company finally rolled over and agreed that they DO need to pay for my 2nd stage DIEP surgery!!! It had to reach a director before they finally came to their senses. Next step would have been a lawyer, and I am sooooo glad we didn't have to go down that road!
It was so hot this last weekend here in the Seattle area. We are a bunch of heat wimps, though. First we complain because it's not warm enough, then we complain 'cuz it's too hot - just no pleasing us. Nonetheless, very few northwesterners have AC (us among them). Our house get HOT, as it is high on the side of a southwestern facing hill overlooking valleys. Yesterday was 95 in the valley. Our yard was 99, and inside the house (full glass windows facing southwest) it was 105. Too toasty for me.... my web feet started drying out
.Yesterday I made gazpacho, but for some odd reason, hubby wanted spaghetti.... I was going to make some ice cream, but decided I had stood up enough and instead just watched the Olympics. Why oh why oh why, when Usain Bolt won the 100 meter at 2:00 PM our time did NBC decide not to show it until 11:00 PM our time. I love watching the Olympics, but cannot stay up until midnight for two weeks unless I take 2 weeks off work. It's very aggravating!!!!
Happy Monday everyone!!!
-
Gumby, it's too bad you're not closer to the US/Can border so that you could pull in CTV -- which is showing all the biggies like the 100M live. The least NBC could have done was show the events live on the weekend when everyone was home!
Looking for a good gazpacho recipe (haven't made it for a few years). What's yours?
-
Linda-we used to be able to watch CBC here in the Seattle area until our cable company decided to remove it. It's been quite a few years now.
The only part of our hot Seattle weather I don't like is trying to sleep in it. Gardengumby's assessment of Seattle's reaction to weather is spot on.

Morning Everyone!
It's hot and humid here today .. sure am hoping for some rain. I think NOAA said we had a 60% chance of thunderstorms. Not holding my breath though.
Gumby ... I am so glad the insurance problem got straightened out.
Notself ... Thanks for the encouragement! I had three very big reports come in late last night. Yay ... I love being busy with work. I'm excited to give the marketing one more big push this week. All I need is one more really good client and I'll be set.
Riley ... OMG ... glad you got to work safely. We really need the rain here too.
Alex ... Looking for a wedding venue sounds like lots of fun. Enjoy your day.
Well, I better get back to work. Hope everyone has a good Monday,
Bren
-
I can feel for you northwesterners ... that is too hot to go without AC. Hopefully it won't last long. Or else you will all have a run on window air conditioners.
Bren ... glad you have the work and good luck with your marketing.
So cool about the Mars landing! Wish we had more coverage of things like that instead of all the reality TV crap.
Off to deal with another bucket full of tomatoes.
-
Thanks White Rabbit! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the marketing is successful. I didn't even know we had a Mars landing. The tomatoes sound wonderful. I didn't plant any this year.
I hear thunder outside, so maybe we will finally get some rain.
hugs,
Bren

Here's the Gazpacho recipe, Linda.. hope you like it.
start with everything cold
1 large can tomato juice
2 english cucumbers
1 yellow and 1 orange pepper (green is fine)
1 or 2 jalapenos, seeded
1 walla walla or vidalia onion
2 or 3 cloves of garlic
1 large bunch of cilantro
1/4 c EVOO
juice of 1 or 2 lemons
1/8 c balsamic vinegar
salt and pepper
mince one cucumber and both yellow and orange peppers. Place is a large bowl.
Cut everything else into chunks and put in a blender (needs to be done in at least 2 batches). Blend until all is liquified. Pour over the minced vegetables in the bowl. Put in fridge until ready to eat. Stir before serving.
whoops gotta run - late for a meeting......
-
Good Morning! The sun has calmed down today---I know Mary is sad but I am happy. I so do not deal with with heat.
We spent the better part of yesterday---one of the two hotest days in Seattle this year-- ducking the Blue Angels to stand in a sunny field of blueberries picking our little hearts out. 36lbs of blueberries, only $2.50 a pound. yum yum. On the downside, not even the chocolate malt on the way home got me perked up (I did have a hat and I did wear my sunscreen and drink my water but I am not good at heat) enough to cook dinner so the monsters had to suffer with leftovers for dinner while I sat on the sofa drinking water and eventually one faux mojito.
If you are in the Seattle universe, I would urge you to go pick some yourself--I have never seen fatter or more plentiful blueberries. Linbo farm in Puyallup.
-
Geez - you are lucky you didn't get sunstroke. It was 95 in the Puyallup Valley yesterday.... 36 lbs of blueberries - nummy!!!
-
Much as I love the heat-I would not have gone blueberry picking yesterday.
I spent the day in the shade with a cool beverage and a book. It's not bad today-at least it's normal summer temperature. I hate it when it's drizzly and cold.
Gardengumby-I forgot to tell you I am so glad you got your insurance issues straightened out. There have been times when I have been more stressed out by insurance than actual illness or injury itself. I think they deny stuff in the first place, hoping that we'll just accept their denial, thus saving them money.
Mary
-
Thanks, Mary. I've not been real stressed about it, as I knew they'd have to pay in the long run - but I didn't want to have to go the whole lawyer thing. Also, the doctor/hospital has started wanting their money and $25,000 just is NOT in my budget....

-
Today was just beautiful. Warm but not hot and no humidity. Hope it lasts.
Spent the day making cookies for my daughter's shower next week. Amaretti, Greek Shortbread and Jam slices. YUM YUM!
Now I'm pooped. Tomorow I will see my DBS team to see if my stimulator is contributing to my back problems.
-
95? ohhhhhh thats why I started feeling like crap and had to collapse under a blueberry bush. . . .
today is a good day for blueberry picking---20 degrees cooler! Mary?
Blue the cookies sound yummy! you probably need a taste tester. . . can I send you my address? wouldn't want to serve bad cookies. . . .
-
Finally a nice summer day in California...not too hot (though we haven't had it bad, it was just my AC that was bad most of the time). 87 in the mountains today...very nice.
Did anyone happen to watch the USA v. Canada Women's soccer game? The last time (and first) I watched a woman's soccer game, was the one Brandi Chastain took off her top (she had a bra top underneath) and created a controversey - a close and exciting game won on penalty kicks....anyway, I gotta say, this game was as exciting as that one....tie breaking score in OT with 15 seconds left to play. I won't say who wins in case someone loves their tape delayed NBC Oylmpic's coverage (though this game was shown live on the old Versus channel today).
My last chemo is this Wednesday (I've been doing it since February 28th), so I'm getting very excited and hopeful.
-
Blue - I bet you are looking forward to the wedding.
Stayed home today, seem to be coming down with something - still not dressed. Steve came home with a cold but it's too soon for me to have caught it from him. Everyone at work has been sick, so I'll blame one of them
