They might have been, Yorkie. Mom has hummingbirds who will hover right outside either the dining room window or the kitchen window when their bottle of nectar needs replaced. It's their way of getting our attention!

Our nearest hospital is so notorious for billing errors that I hope I never ever end up having to use them.
For comparison with Linda's example. Daughter had a scratched eyeball. Nobody else would look at it because it was eyes so off to the ER she had to go. They did get her right in I'll have to give them that. Took a look at it ... yes it is scratched ... here are some antibiotic drops. Offered her an eye patch but were nice enough to tell her that it would cost her about $50 from them and she could get one from CVS for about $5.00. She heard nothing for several months and then finally got a bill ... $1600. Yikes!
I loves cats but a bobcat wandering around would be a bit more cat than I care to deal with up close and personal. Sure can understand why you are concerned about your little dogs.

Good evening, all! I'm a little late signing on but am so happy, Blue, for your good news. You and Ray have much to celebrate! Yippee!

Cripes, get him off me! Dog becomes unlikely friend to white lion cub rejected by its mother - but it's a test of patience!By ALLAN HALLPUBLISHED: 02:27 GMT, 31 July 2012 | UPDATED: 10:10 GMT, 31 July 2012 Comments (72)Share A mongrel dog has become stepfather to a rare white lion born in captivity in Germany that was rejected shortly after birth by his mother.Pointer mix Lejon, two, and three-week-old lion cub Jojo are inseparable since meeting at the Safari Park in Stukenbrock in north-west Germany.JoJo was initially separated from his mother because of a belly button infection but when carers tried to reunite the pair, she shunned him.
Pride and joy: Pointer mongrel Lejon plays with the white lion cub Jojo in Stukenbrock, Germany
Best of friends: Lejon, two, and three-week-old lion cub Jojo are inseparable since meeting at the Safari Park in Stukenbrock
Caretaker Jeannette Wurms, 36, cuddles up with JojoPark worker Jeanette Wurms.: 'After days of treatment we were not sure wether the mother would accept her baby.'So for safety reasons we are handraising and bottle feeding. I am glad that Jojo has found something like a step father and step brother in my playful and loving pointer-mongrel Lejon.' More...Don't do that mother, it makes me go ape! Baby gorilla's playful parent can't help tickling her newborn as it snuggles up in her armsHe'll always have Paris: French artist shows his passion for the city of love by creating huge model in his back garden She added: 'Now he gets fed by hand by me and gets the paternal affection he needs from Lejon.
'The dog is very patient. Jojo scrambles all over him, jumps on his head, bites his fur. But he doesn't mind - he's a very patient surrogate.'

AWWWWWE! Adorable dog, adorable cub!

Home again after an 8 hour journey. My tourist loved it and she shouted me lunch. I took her to a restaurant on the edge of a range looking out toward the ocean - gorgeous views. The restaurant is called "The Edge". I also took her out to the coast to see our lovely white sandy beaches and then we set off home. I'm totally pooped.
Steve still not home - he just called and should be home in half an hour or so.
-
BTW - Miss Poppy is not a happy kitty - she's ignoring me.

Riley, a friend's father has fed his squirrels for years. Now, if they are hungry they little bang on his door! Animals learn fast where the next meal comes from!
-
Linda, that's just about as cute as it gets! Thanks for sharing!
-
Linda .. I love that! Thanks for posting.
hugs,
Bren

We might hit 90 here in Seattle this weekend! You have never seen more news coverage and panic than when the Seattle area gets hot. Rush out and buy fans, call and get that air conditioning installed, panic about the bad guys that might get in our houses when we leave our doors and windows open!!!

Chiming in to add that lionesses almost never abandon their cubs, and that this is an extremely rare event. It likely happened in captivity (where white lions are), where it is more common amongst all sorts of animals. The more typical Lioness-cub relationship goes something like this:

But Linda's pictures were sweet. :-)
-
If only humans were more like lions.
-
There we go, Yorkie!
-
Hope you enjoy your warmth and sunshine Mary!
The pictures are wothy of big ear to ear grins ... love to see the critters being loving and playful.
Have to go out and about in our hot and muggy day. So thankful I do not live in a time before air conditioning.
LOL susie ... you went against Miss Poppy's wishes. You are probably lucky she did not poop in your shoes
-
Mary .. that is really hot for Seattle! It's typical for here this time of year. And it's very humid as well.
Blue .. just wanted to say again how happy I am about your scan results. And I'm so proud of Ray for landing such a great job. Give him a big hug for me.
Susie .. glad Steve is on his way home. Tim left early this a.m. for Texas and I'm already lonely for him this weekend.
Hope everyone is having a good day,
Bren

Here in southern Ontario today the humidex is 108F. Kind of warmer than necessary. It sure didn't take long for laundry to dry on the line!
-
I have been away in Cape Cod for vacation...and missed the last week...
Blue...I am so happy for all your news!

I hope you all are doing well!

It's a little-known fact (or maybe one some of us would like to forget) that male lions taking over a pride will kill all the previous male's cubs that are under 2 years of age. They do that so the females will go back into heat and can be bred sooner by the new males. (As with many female mammals, female lions will not cycle while they are nursing and raising cubs.)
So, yorkiemom, with the appropriate defererence to our local lioness, I'm not sure I'd like humans to emulate *everything* lions do...

You have a point otter! I had forgotten that unpleasant aspect of lion behavior.
-
Blue...what a wonderful video. My daughter and I just watched it several times through...Thank you for sharing that.
-
WR - LOL - I'd better go and check.
I like the little white kiity up top.
Athena - love your pic, they're just big kitties.
Got to wash all Steve's stuff today and do the grocery shopping - sigh.
-
My mother's favorite saying was "Everything works to a pattern." It appears she was right.
-
Yes, that is true, otter. It is a brutal part of lion life. On rare occasions, lionesses in a pride will band together to prevent a takeover by new males, but that is not the norm. Some lionesses with young cubs will leave the pride if there is a takeover for the reason you state.

If you LOVE fresh tomatoes (the kind you pick from your garden or someone else's (!), here's a salad recipe you'll enjoy:
4 ripe tomatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
3 cloves garlic, slivered
At least 2 tbsps finely chopped fresh basil leaves
2 tbsps of your best EVOO
Freshly ground black pepper and sea salt
Toss it all together and let sit for at least an hour to let all the flavours meld together.
Tastes sensational and it's GOOD for you!
-
Been craving tomatoes lately, don't know why. That sounds yummy.
I miss the big beefsteak tomatoes that grow so well back in Md. where I grew up. Red and yellow ones. -
Blue, SO glad to hear your good news!!!!
Mary - I'm in the heat with you! Watered part of the yard this AM, then went up to Woodinville to taste a little vino - on the way passed a terrible roll-over accident southbound I-405, which completely blocked the freeway for hours. (fortunately, we were traveling northbound). People were wandering around on the freeway. I felt bad for people being stopped like that for hours in the heat. Hope they had some water with them!!
Now we are back home relaxing. I made potato salad this morning and hubby is barbecuing a chicken so we can keep the house as cool as possible. Our house faces southwest on a hill with a LOT of windows, so we're attempting to keep ourselves from cooking, as we do not have AC. (not many homes in the NW do). Got a fan, though
.oh yeah - and we voted. Got our ballots in the mail today for the primary.
-
I am going to ask for early voting. With these electronic machines being so easy to hack, I want a paper ballot that has to be counted.
-
Blue, I love fractals. Thanks for sharing.
