Athena - I handled it really well and felt energised when I got home. I didn't get too puffed. I'll stick to that regimen for a couple of weeks and then increase the distance. I can't go too far at the moment because it's close to sundown and I don't have a light. We're lucky to have such a great bike track that follows a creek - goes for miles and miles.
Alexandria - I thought of getting a stand for my bike, so I could ride stationary

Blue - hope you're really really boring.
-
Blue - any specific reason why you need a bone scan, or is it routine practice because you were a cancer patient?
-
I've been having lots of lower back pain and down my left leg. I think its the stimulator. The DBS team thinks its my slipped disk which showed up on an mri 2 yrs ago and my oncologist wants to rule out mets. Sooooooooooooo!
-
Oh (many bad words)!!!
(((Blue))) - I do wish they could hurry those test results.
And forgive me if you mentioned this elsewhere and I didn't catch it.
-
Blue-my money is on sciatica. Sounds just like what I've had several times over the years. Never had a bone scan to confirm, though. I'm glad you don't have to wait until the 20th for results.
Susie-you are my hero. I haven't been on a bike in years! You go girl!
I don't think I'll ever get to India, but I am really enjoying all the travel advice you are giving, kam170. And yorkie-it sounds like it will be the adventure of a lifetime.
Since I live in the Seattle area, Alaska cruises are very accessible to us here-no need to fly anywhere to get to the boat, just have a friend drive us down to the pier. I have been on 2 Alaska cruises. They are on smaller boats than the Mexico and Carribean cruises, and they can get very close to the glaciers and fjords. One memory I will never forget is being up a 5 AM on the 4th of July, eating clam chowder from a bread bowl, watching a glacier calve.
Riley-I hope this woman is a good fit for your cat.
We are having beautiful weather here-around 75 degrees and clear, blue skies. Perfect.
Mary

Blue - hope for the best. What kind of scan do they do for this???
My MO sent me to get an MRI yesterday for lower back pain (started while under chemo and still doing chemo and still have a small amount but it is slightly better than when it started last March) and the imaging place sent me away because I had TE's in. (Why didn't my MO know that?)
-
Riley - why are you giving up your cat...I looked back through your posts and couldn't find anything. I'm trying to imagine how that feels and how hard to find someone that would live up to my cat-caring standards, and believe me, with BC, I've thought about it. And since my cats are basically getting everything (their future caregivers, if they should need them), they should be taken care of well! I'm just having hard time finding a would be cat owner in that 99th percentile
-
I had a pet scan. I now have metal in my body so can't have MRI's.
-
Thanks, Mary. She asked "good" questions, starting with "Why did you pick her to give away?", if she's not declawes, what does she scratch on?, etc.
-
Blue - thanks...do they worry about too much radiation with a Petscan? Without reseraching it, I'm guessing at my age, 58, that the radiation doesn't have an effect for 20 plus years, so why worry about it, but I'm not sure. I'm having my TEs exchanged late August so I guess I can wait for the MRI til then. Hope your scan turns out well. I think the waiting has to be pure hell.
-
Kam, you had quite the adventure in India! Thanks again for all the info. As I mentioned we will be very cautious. Gone are our days of taking the train all over Europe. How horrible that women were being raped on 2nd class! WTH, weren't there any attendants or other individuals to intervene on a train? Just terrible.
-
Blue, keeping good thoughts.
riley170, sure hope you find a good home for her quickly. She looks like such a cute cat. She reminds me of my Lady, she was such a sweet cat. She followed one of my school children to school on the coldest day of the year 23 bellow zero. We had to take her to the animal hospital, but my how she loved me the rest of her 16 years of life.
-
Yorkie - Like I said, stick to First Class reserved in India. There are attendants, it is clean, and the seats are actually reserved. Usually they have sleeping berths at the end of the car. When I did ride first class, there weren't many aboard...but like I said, India's economy has improved, so may be more popular. I'd never balk at a first class train ride....though don't expect the TJV of France....more like a much older european train.
Where are the pics of Riley's cat????
-
Riley: I hope the person doesn't even consider declawing her. I think declawing is inhumane. If you can't have all of an animal the way it was built, don't have it at all, or make lifestyle changes to accommodate his needs.
-
Hi all,
Just a side note: missing sunflowers. Aint no sunshine when you're gone.
-
Missing sunflowers too!
I wish we could start a chain. Her ban expires on Aug. 6th or 8th, I think. I hope she will come back.
-
Thanks Mary - I've never been anyone's hero before
I don't have any choice since Steve booked us on that trip without me agreeing first. I do like riding though - much better than walking. -
Yorkiemom, Kam's experience is much more recent than mine, but tracks with my experience in the mid-80s. First Class reserved train is fine. We were on a second-class train coming back from Agra to Delhi, but I was with my then-husband and we were used to what was happening around us and how to deal with things because we were living in Pakistan at the time,
I can't second Kam's advice about not eating from street vendors strongly enough. Hell, I got food poisoning from a reputable hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal (the Yak and Yeti) and was seriously ill for some time. No salads, no ice cubes, no drinks in glasses. No lettuce or tomatoes on sandwiches. I'm not even sure about bottled water, as Kam said ... We only drank pop in bottles that we opened ourselves. They probably have pop in cans now, but make sure you open it yourself or it is opened in your presence -- AFTER the top is wiped off. You can pour it in a glass after that. We stayed with colleagues with the Embassy (we were with the US Consulate in Lahore, Pakistan), so we had expert advice navigating places to eat in hotels. Things are probably better now than 30 years ago!
I am an asthmatic and the air pollution is hard on that. Lots of particulate matter in the air, including dust. If you have inhalers, make sure you bring them if that is an issue.
Oh, I just remembered another cool tourist site in Delhi - the Red Fort. You will undoubtedly be taken there on any tour anyway.

Kam, way back on page 935. I'm moving and can only take 2. She's only a year old and is the most out-going and sociable of the 3, so if I have to give one away, she'd be the best one. If I can't give her away by the time the new apartment becomes available at the end of Aug., then I'll smuggle her along. But I had such a bad experience with the last landlord, I don't want to start off on the wrong foot with this one.
I liked the questions the lady asked. She didn't ask to have Lovey declawed, she merely asked if she were already declawed, and if not, what did she scratch on? I told her she was used to a scratching post. She asked why Lovey was chosen to be the one given away, and I told her that she was the friendliest and most out-going and I thought she would do best in a new environment. She took right to my brother's family where I'm staying temporarily-long story if you haven't already read it.
I know the economy sucks, so the pool of responsible people looking for a cat is smaller, but I'm determined to find her a good home. I won't take her to a shelter - that's where she came from; dumped off with her littermates at about 6 wks. I take my responsibility to her seriously. I owe her that. I like that the lady asked questions-she sounds like she's taking this seriously (not a whim) and will be a responsible owner. I just hope that they take to each other.
-
Riley ... I'm hoping for a real 'love connection' for Lovey! Somebody who is thinking and asking questions is a good sign IMO.
Yorkiemom ... it sounds like you are in for quite an adventure.
-
Riley - she is beautiful!! She certainly has that in her favor for adopting, if that even matters. If I didn't have this darn BC and lived closer to you, I'd take her, though I have two females, one of whom would adore another friendlier cat and a queen of the roost type female - it took 3 years for her to totally accept my Emma sweetie. Three females may be pushing it!
How much does Lovey weigh? She looks so petite.
-
Ah, thank you for the clarification Riley. :-)
We litties need our claws. How else does one hang on to running prey!
Hope Lovey finds a loving home. When are you moving?
-
Speaking of cats, has any one ever tried a "Love Glove" on their kitty? It's a mitten that simulates another cat's lick, but ofcourse, your petting your cat while wearing the glove. I have one love starved kitty I want to try it on.I recently bought one of these from Amazon and both of my cats love it, for lounging and scratching.
-
Very chic looking, Kam.
Politics break here: I am ZERO worried about Barack losing the presidency in November. Just one of many reasons: Did you all hear how Romney went to London and criticized the Olympics preparations there? David Cameron retorted by saying, essentially, "In a big city there are bound to be problems - nothing happens when you hold the Olympics in the middle of nowhere (meaning, obviously, Salt Lake City)."
Laugh of the day for me. If you missed, it, here goes:
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/07/26/romneys-remarks-cause-stir-in-london/?hp
I'm only sorry Rachel Maddow had the day off - I was looking forward to her take on it.
-
Seems like everybody on MSNBC has the day off! Maybe they're all in London. Anyway, Mittens has the worst case of foot in mouth disease I have ever seen!
-
Blue - did I understand you right? You can't have an MRI if you've had a PET scan? I know I had MRI's after having had PET scans. The MRI's were brain but would that make a difference? Also, what is a TE? I probably know but my brain isn't working right now. Glad you don't have to wait til the 20th for your bone scan results.
I had my CT scan today and got great results --- regression -- and only after two rounds of doxil. The radiologist hadn't done a written report yet but my onc was able to pull the pictures up on his computer. Blood counts were all good, too. So ... I will continue with doxil and hope it continues to kick butt. Will have another echocardiogram August 9th to make sure there's no heart damage. I'm a happy sunflower tonight!! -
Reggie has moved in ... That's GREAT news, Glenna! Big hugs and celebrations for you!
L -
YAAAAAY Glenna!
-
Hurrah for Glenna!

Hurray Glenna!!!
