Sweetbean, as far as I can gather Abigail thinks a lot of things are estrogenic and Gary thinks that BC patients should take baking soda, melatonin, D3 and orange juice.

that works as far as it goes. the commontary was for preventing any type of cancer & therepies if you had the trouble.....except as noted for ours

Orange juice? To me that doesn't fall in line with an alkaline diet. Oranges are very acidic and have a lot of sugar which also converts to acid. Drinking the juice is giving you a strong dose of sugar and acidic. IMO it would be better to eat the orange in it's whole form for the vitamin C content, but there are other whole foods that are also good sources of vitamin C and don't have that high sugar content of the orange.

the sugar is a good form & the acid changes when in to body to alkaline & I expect the skin & it's essential oils is very good & the white pulp as with lemon is a natural blood thinner

That's interesting about the juice. I've been told by my nutritionist not to drink juice but eat the fruit because of the sugar levels.

Wouldn't the juice and the whole orange have the same amount of sugar.? I always heard that the sugar in fruits is ok because it is natural sugar. But I guess the thinking has changed from years ago

I was told years ago when I was hypoglycemic to drink juice because of the sugar in it Now that I'm fightin prediabetics thanks to chemo not to drink juice, but an orange is ok.

Dogs, the bottomline is that sugar is sugar is sugar. The reason you should eat the fruit is that you have less sugar that way (a glass of juice has the juice and sugar of 3-5 oranges, whereas if youneat and orange you usually have 1), but also that the whole fruit has a lot ofmfiber which slows the absorption ofmthe sugar into the blood stream.

sugat isn't sugar: refined sugar is in fact a drug, a white powder, filtered through beef bones, or was. honey for instance has minerals i think, & vitamines. orange sugars are slower to be assimilated: difference between refined white flour & unrefidned whole grains

The difference between drining just the juice vs eating the entire fruit is in the pulp and fiber that you get when you eat the whole fruit. With the juice you are getting concentrated sugar with nothing to neutralize it. I would rather get my vitamin C elsewhere.

I don't think sugar is filtered through beef bones. However, the sugar you want to avoid is the stuff that makes your blood sugar spike. So refined sugar, honey, corn syrup - all on the avoid list for me. I use coconut palm sugar or stevia. I've also heard that brown rice syrup is ok.
I generally don't drink fruit juice because of the sugar - too much fructose is not a good thing for us. However, I eat fruit - 2-3 servings a day. I eat a lot of berries and will generally throw an apple into my green juice. In the summer, I love peaches and nectarines.

sweetbean unfortunately it is true - sugar is filtered through animal bones to help make it white. this is why there is white sugar that is specifically marked "vegan sugar". just one more reason to avoid sugar!

glad to know this, grace d, learned this long ago in jamaica, wasn't sure it was still true. like floride, from sewer processing plants (also?), I don't know why they think we need to have it white, would still be a drug, & bad as sweetbean says. juicing some stuff can spike blood sugar too I've heard

Bone char, charcoal made from animal bones, is indeed used to filter cane sugar to remove color. This process is not used for beet sugar. Interestingly, this is considered a pareve product under Kosher (Jewish dietary laws) guidelines. Pareve means it contains neither meat nor dairy products. The process of burning the bone to the point of it becoming charcoal is what renders it "neutral". Some vegans will eat this type of sugar, others won't. Not all cane sugar in the US uses bone char as a filter. Caryn

Manuka honey from New Zealand is said to be the more antibacterial honey in the world, I just ordered some and some maple syrup, but mostly I use agave and stevia, the stevia preferred by us is in liquid so it tastes much better than the powdered or coffee or cereal or the extract for baking. Dunesleeper: This is so true about the contradictions regarding the herb Pueraria Mirifica. However, I am going with the studies that have shown that the herb acts as tamoxifin in the body with out the side effects of tamoxifin. I feel good on it. No more hot flashes at all.

Momine is correct.
It's the FIBER in the whole fruit that makes a difference and the absporption of the sugar is slower. Natural fruit sugars are NOT the same as eating " white foods".

Had not heard of herb Pueraria Mirifica, will check into that too.
I recently ordered Chastetree Berry Extract in bulk, am taking that for hormone balance, along with an oil combination for skin of pink grapefruit oil and hycrysinin oil in carrier oil, again for balance. Eat black beans cooked in seaweek to soak up excess estrogen. Also do a lot to support thyroid and adrenals. And after a lot of research on natural progesterone cream, I have decided to continue use of it, vaginally applied so it acts as the eprogesterone suupplied by ovaries.... have learned that the bioidentical progesterone will fill the progesterone receptor (am ER+ PR+ 90%) and stops the estrogen from doing its very bad thing, see more on threads for natural progesterone on bco bcz don't trust myself to re-explain all of it, but I decided to use it and wish I had not been frightened off of it for this entire year, after what I know now.
All this to avoid the drugs, they wanted me on Tamoxifen then I was told I would take Arimidex due to post meno an age, but I chose not to take either.

You can find several studies on Pub Med regarding P. Mirifica, including Anti-tumor activity of spinasterol isolated from Pueraria roots. I have been taking Nature's Answer P. Mirifica with DIM for 2 1/2 months now and I am very happy with it.

Mercy for all, I tried the same P. Mirifica several months ago, and felt like it did slow down the hot flashes, as well as also slowing down any gray hairs growing in. (I usually pluck them out). But I also felt that it made me a little bit more achy, maybe an effect of the DIM, not really sure. Sometimes I just get more achy for awhile and can't really tell what's causing it. Just wondering if you noticed anything like that happening?

The sugar/bone char thing, gross? If you're a vegretarian, probably. The bone is burned so thoroughly that it is charcoal and no longer considered an animal product under kosher law which is very strict about theses things. Then again I eat liver and pâté, so I'm not too disturbed by animal products. I am grossed out by chicken, raw,on the other hand.

When I worked at a wildlife center we took care of a lot of brown pelicans. Wonderful birds. That Thanksgiving, I couldn't eat turkey!
