I saw a crow swoop down on a 9 or so lb cat....when it got it's talons into the cat, it changed it's mind.  They seem to know exactly what they're able to carry on closer inspection.

I installed a cat fence in my backyard.  My cats are allowed out, even then, only during daylight hours.  They have trees to climb and lots of cover.  Occasionally a new cat will walk along the back of the wooden fence next to the cat fence and my 8 lb female (who thinks she is a Tom) will give a cat fight a go.  Our office cat, who basically was outside at all hours, only lasted 1 year around here.  Last year, the local police had to kill a mountain lion a block from our office after it snatched a house cat of it's porch and hung out next to the elementary school.  The moutain lion den turned out to be only 350' from my office!  (They found 1/2 a dog and the remnents of 2 cats in the den.)  It's Russian Roulette to let a cat out in my parts.

If I had a totally screened in area, I might let them out - but otherwise, my kids are staying in.

Alexandria - the cat fence curls over so the best a cat can do is hang from it.  It's not for everyone (and does not do well in California wet snow!), but has kept my kitties safe for 5 years now.  Suprisingly, they sort of blend into the background too.  Once, a baby racoon fell into my backyard (after dark) as the family was probably climbing up my cedar tree near the fence.  He/she cried all nightj (mother and siblings on other side of wood/cat fence all night)...finally, my friend came over to rescue the racoon at dawn (don't ever try to grab even a baby racoon!!).  He/she ran up the tree and the mom and 2 other kids climbed up the tree and rescued their child. Interestingly enough, my cats had no interest (from inside the house) in that crying baby racoon.

If it was a baby possum that fell on your side of the fence, your cats might have invited it into the house.  For some reason, cats love possums.  Go figure.

and the op is so "new" ( neigh, neigh) to BCO - what ever happened to one account per poster?  She used to talk to herself, can't remember all the names, but it was funny.... it really is amusing, and how quickly her attempts to PROVOKE get stifled, tee, hee...still not as vicious as posting an anitchemotherapy rant on the 3N Forum.

Takeway line for me, from Dr. Weiss's good piece is:

Plus, given how rare this type of problem is, few of us know what this diagnosis means, what’s involved with her treatment, and her chances of a full recovery.

tee, hee...like one of my favorite cartoons from the New Yorker years ago, a drunken man is in a phone booth, obviously calling home to be picked up, and must have been asked where are you, looks out, and the caption:

"on the corner of telephone and telephone"

eta: more tee, hees, thread locked - and nobody (still) does anything about the sock puppets...ah, well..... it's not my problem...but what a rep this place is getting....bleah...

Our message to you was a sincere attempt to remedy a situation that was not apparent to us and that was being publicly discussed. We were simply asking for insight. Just trying to help.

By banning her and asking her to leave? How is that helpful?

Many of us have directly reported to you the names of confirmed or suspected sock puppets, yet the problem still exists.

    Hello All,

This was intended to be between Sunflower and us, however she has made it public. We reached out to her in a kind fashion for help to identify the sock puppets. We are not always able to determine it from our end.  She responded aggressively and in a very unkind manner. We are only trying to help and get rid of this problem.

Sunflowers banned? She has always been a voice of reason all over BCO, but never mind. You are the moderators, you choose the people you want on your site. This choice speaks volumes.
