It's my birthday today 56. It has been over a year since I was diagnosed with LCIS. So far all of my test have come back clean. Started taking aromasin in June of 2011. There are the days that worry comes to me, am I doing enough to take care of my health because I sure don't have the greatest doctors. ( I can't go to any other doctors) One day at a time is what I am doing and looking to the next year when I turn 57.

Last fall (a few months after my 50th birthday) I was diagnosed in October of 2011 with an aggressive 3.8 cm IDC tumor, grade 3, Ki67 over 75%. I'd had several call backs from mammograms during the years and was always told that this lump wasn't cancer, but suddenly it was!? WTH? I was convinced I was going to die and leave my seven year old without a mother. There were many moments of darkness and despair. Six months of chemo were rough, side effects and twenty pounds of fluid retention weight gain, plus the hair loss. After chemo I had a lumpectomy and the pathology indicated that the chemo had eradicated 100% of the invasive cancer. In early June I had a BMX with immediate DIEP reconstruction. Choosing DIEP was one of the best decisions I ever made. Psychologically, I don't even feel like I had a mastectomy. As one of my NOLA mentors says, it's like unstuffing and restuffing pillows... In this case my breasts were refilled with tissue from my abdomen. Six weeks out from surgery, things are going amazingly well. The water weight from chemo is gone and I can fit back into my pre-chemo clothing. My surgical incisions are healing well and fading already. I started swimming today, mostly just kicking with a kick board, but it felt great to really start moving.
Yesterday was my 51st birthday and the future is looking a lot brighter! THAT makes this one of the best birthdays ever! -

Today is my 66th birthday, and I thank God for all the blessings He has given me in my life. I was actually born on a Friday, the 13th, but my mom always told me that I was not bad luck, but was the greatest gift she ever had.
