Gorgeous, Blue - I LOVE the pink.  Definitely "sumpthin's happenin" - it's going to be in the low 100's here today - that's never happened, just never.

Glenna - those "premeds" are what got me thru the treatment too.  Changed a lot in the past few years.  IF, just IF, you ever have a problem with nausea, make sure to ask for EMEND.  It's more expensive than some other meds, but definitely the most effective. The steroids made me constantly hungry, but could only eat mashed potatoes, such a weird time, but it DOES save our lives.

Meant to say: I too love Brian Andreas, I used to have several of his prints framed, also his books.

Blue, I had a wonderful aunt who was able to get hibiscus to grow and bloom, in Denmark!

Your doggie looks like he (?) has a lot of personality.

Blue - beautiful flower and what a cute doggy.

Kam - I think blueberries will still be available.  We usually drive down to blueberry farms in southern Washington to get a bunch of 'em (near Kelso), and I think it's the beginning to middle of August...   Blackberries should stillbe available but I think raspberries will be over and for sure boysenberries will - they have a really SHORT season.

    Good Morning Friends,

I just walked the dogs and started the mowing.  It's already 90 degrees here and very humid.  arghhh.

Blue .. love the hibiscus.  It's great to see a pic of Lilah too.  I sure miss her and Virg too.  Sure wish we were all getting together again this year at NOTL.

Glenna .. if you wanted to host a get together, I would love to come.  I think I'm about 4 or 5 hours south of you.  We have lots of gals that live in VA and in the DC area.  I also have lots of supplies I could bring.  I hosted a gathering for 20 people for three days at my home last year.  It's a blast!   It's lots of fun getting to know people in person that you've been friends with forever.

Sunflowers ... I have the same problem with my belly.  I lost a lot of weight, but the belly area is still a problem.  I'm just not willing to do situps to get rid of it.  Too lazy.

Well, I'm off to the dentist soon to have the bone sticking out of my gum removed.   I'm having a huge panic attack about it (shortness of breath, heart palpitations, etc).  I know that fool is going to hurt me.  I hate this dentist.  I don't know why they didn't do it right last week when they pulled the tooth.  Thank goodness you can't tell I'm missing a tooth when I smile.

Hope everyone has a great day,

    hugs,

    Bren

The weather is just screwy this year.  The blueberry farm near us is into its second week of picking and selling, we had fresh corn and new potatoes on the weekend and the peaches are in.  Not sure what the annual Peach Festival in mid-August will be celebrating.....

Even the birds are confused -- or perhaps just hot and bothered.  Every day we hear/see birds fly into our diningroom windows at least 10 times a day -- that's never happened before.

Today's temp is hovering at the 95F mark -- not including the humidex "feels like" factor adding another 10 degrees.  But a cold front (hmmm, "cold"?) is supposed to move in late this afternoon with thunderstorms.  We desperately need rain here too.

Enough whining already!  We could be living in England where they've had pretty much non-stop rain for a month, and it's predicted to last right through the Olympics into September.  Ugh!  There really is TOO much of a good thing!

lindasa - we have a lot of windows and have birds fly into them, too - hawks have increased at an amazing rate, and when they chase smaller birds the birds just go crazy trying to get away from the hawks.  That could be what you're seeing as well.

    Blue~

This is what I saw when I went out in the backyard today...

Dogs were barking like crazy and when I went to investigate there was a baby crow hanging upside down in one of our trees.  I was not sure if it was injured so I got my garden gloves and reached for it and it went onto my hand.

We did not see any large crows flying around and it was stretching its wings so I thought it was not hurt.

Then mama crow came swooping out "caw, caw, caw" and this little bird looked like he was hanging his head ashamed...

He then flew off my hand and went up to her in the tree and she was really chewing him out...

My young daughter said "I would hate to be that crow right about now."

Ang, that is so cool.  You're lucky, though, that mama crow didn't attack you, as they are pretty protective of their babies - and their beaks are big and hard!

Ang ... that is too cute about the baby crow.

Blue ... I lucked out and didn't have to have anything else pulled at the dentist today.  Turns out the bone that is sticking up through the gum is supposed to be there.  The problem is the gum is supposed to be covering the bone.  Yikes.  It hurts, but thankfully the dentist prescribed me some pain pills.

I sure wish I could visit Linda with you and get some of the wonderful peaches!

Hope everyone is having a great day.

    hugs,

    Bren

    BinVA,

May I suggest that you get things checked by another dentist?  Having your jaw bone exposed doesn't sound good.

Yuck Bren. I go To the dentist tomorrow. I hate it, even though he is very good.

It was 100 degrees in town, I just got home and it is only 94 here. Ick. I have to water some plants and I am going to wait until late tonight. On Thursday I go to Connecticut to my aunt's house to visit with my brother before he moves to Austrailia. He had 2 job offers so I don't know if he will be in Sydney or Melbourne. His daughter graduated from High School, he got a divorce and is moving. A lot of change for one summer.

Ouch Bren. I hope that gets better real soon. I hate dental procedures and dental pain. Whe I had my wisdom teeth pulled when I was 22, one of them was really hard to get out. It turns out it had grown into my jawbone but somehow that didn't show on the x-rays. It still gives me the shivers to think about it.

I would love to come to a get-together sometime. Good thing there isn't one this year. Between our sewer repair and other household projects this year, my money has run out. It was money well spent, we needed to do what we did, but I wish it could have gone to something more fun.

Tomorrow is my 31st wedding anniversary. Can't believe it's been that long. I still feel like I'm fresh out of high school (until I look in the mirror.)

    Happy Anniversary Mary!

Ang I agree you are lucky on the crow.  A neighbor told me he had a baby crow down in his yard one time.  He tried to be "helpful" and move it to where cats couldn't get it.  The other crows dive bombed him. Then for weeks --after the baby crow had gone---the crows continued to dive at him and raise hell when he stepped out the front door.  The whole discussion came about because once again he had a baby crow down in his yard but this time he wasn't going near and he warned me not to.  I think the studies on crows and facial recognition of humans (people wearing the same distinct mask) are simply fascinating.

I went to the oncologist today with my mother.  Her CA125 is down but only by a very little compared to the other decreases--less than 10 points.  Her onco wants her to do 3 more rounds of chemo which has her in chemo through mid September. He also said that she may not get below 20 on the CA125....hmmmmm.  not sure what that means.

Crows are high on the list of most intelligent animals, according to a countdown show I once watched on Animal Planet.  They can tool make- bend a twig to get something out of a bottle.  I've always liked crows, despite their fierceness.

Rosemary, hope the dentist is painless.  I hate it too, which is probably why I don't go unless a tooth breaks.

I'm trying to do a get together for another thread - for non-reconstructed women on  "I look for other flat-chested woman" in September in New York City- otherwise I'd offer to host something either in NJ or in the woods of Vermont.

My DH's birthday present to me just arrived - a stetson hat.  It's a little big, and I look kind of silly, but it's fun.

Sounds like I was lucky that mama crow did not get me in her radar.

It made for a nice "teachable moment" regarding wildlife.

The crows in my neighbourhood have an excellent communication system. In the early summer they tell each other when the cherries are almost ripe on my cherry trees and eat most of them. In the late summer they notify each other of my grapes. They don't get as many of the grapes perhaps because they are on my porch and people are there regularly. The squirrels listen in to the crows chatter and come for the fruit too. Sometimes I get a little bit of the produce.

I love hawks, too.  I used to drive my kids crazy by yelling, Hawk, and pointing when I saw one.  Used to be pretty rare to see any.  Now, it seems, they've made a big comeback.  Encouraging.

My dh yells hawk, too.  Drives me crazy, as he is usually driving at the time and doesn't seem to think it is necessary to look at the road if a hawk is watching over it...

Well, I agree.  If the hawk's watching the road, it has to be safe.

We have a natural path near our home by the river and one day we were walking our pooches.  One is about 4 lbs. and the other about 7 (he's over weight...lol).  There were 3 hawks circling.  I'm sure if we hadn't been there they would have swooped right down and grabbed them.

    A gathering in Vermont!  Yippee...

Hawks  - I like all the ones we have, except the turkey hawks, boy, they are ugly.  Lots of crows - I missed them in DC, west nile virus decimated them a few years ago, don't know if they're back there or not.

We gotta do a rain dance or sumpthin, this is getting very scarey!  grass is crunching underfoot, literally, crunching...

blue - there're a bunch of signs in our neighborhood for a "lost" siamese cat - I'm fairly certain a hawk got it.  We've a LOT of hawks in our area, as well as both golden and bald eagles.  The crows attack the hawks and eagles when it's nesting time and drive them away.  It can be very entertaining to watch.  It's also cool to watch the hawks and eagles mating and wonder if they'll survive as they plummet towards earth seemingly unaware of the impending calamity.  But they always seems to realize at the last second and fly.

Mary - Happy Anniversary, and may you have many many more!!

I never let my cats out, both for their sake and for the sake of small wildlife and birds.  It would be  especially dangerous for cats in Vermont, where there are so many preditors - hawks, foxes, fishers, coyotes.
