Glad the expedience with the new Dentist wasn't to bad.
-
Champagne is on ice for celebrations. Happy Bastile Day. Think I'll watch Les Miz tonight.
-
Happy Bastille Day, bartender. Say hello to Bren.
-
Momine and Yorkie - SO glad to have you here - and the other newbies of course.

Alexandria
Yummy choice..my favorite is white chocolate frozen yogurt. There's a "local" ice cream in western MA - Bart's - and it is SO yummy - they have Ginger, delicious, also peppermint, divine, and this thing with a combination of coconut, chocolate, raspberry - with a weird name I can never remember: three geeks and a (something) - anyhow, if anyone is in western MA - try Bart's ice cream.
Speaking of regional things - I didn't know til I lived near Washington DC, that Marshmallow Fluff wasn't sold all over. Yikes, there is something called "marshmallow creme" which bears no resemblance to Marshmallow Fluff, so how do folks in other parts of the country make a FlufferNutter ( peanut butter & marshmallow fluff)?
Also Wise Potato chips - I LOVE the burned ones ( very dark) - hear they're regional too.
My new favorite, while we're drooling over Alexandria's frozen yogurt - is Almond Butter ( organic, sold in Large Container at Costco) - yummy, yummy, and of course "good for us" cuz it's almonds. of course...
-
Scrapple! And I didn't know that marshmallow fluff is regional. Weird!
-
Scrapple oh my haven't had that in years. My Grandmother worked in at a school in Pennsylvania and would bring that stuff to us when she came to visit. My father just loved the stuff.
-
Whew! Just finished babysitting my 4 year old grandson all day. He's awesome, but he gives me a run for my money! Went bowling with him, chased him around the yard and basically fed him non-stop. What a cutie! Got another all day session with him tomorrow. Think we'll do CiCis and a movie. Grands keep you young, if they don't do you in with exhastion!
-
yorkiemom I can't agree more. I just love the grandkids but oh my sure glad I didn't have my kids as an older mom.
-
yorkiemom
You are so right.

Sunflowers...I used to live in Northampton, MA...with the best gourmet ice cream around. There was a Herrels and a Ben and Jerry's... Herrels used to make cream flavored ice cream (no flavor at all) that I loved. mmmmmm. remembering the college days...sigh.
kira...I had my babies a little older (my son was born when I was 33 and my daughter was born when I was 37). It is certainly physically a challenge. But maybe emotionally a little easier? I dunno...
-
CLC, you just brought back some memories for me! I lived in Northampton for a bit, same thing, college days. I haven't been there for years, and years...The food choices were amazing. Of course back then I had NO money so even an ice cream was a special treat.
-
I had one daughter at 34 and the second at 40. I think I handled it better emotionally than I would have in my 20ies but I did get tired.
OK- favorite ice cream, even though I do love Ben and Jerry's, it takes second to Graeter's ice cream in Cincinnati, especially the chocolate chunk - large chunks of dark chocolate instead of iittle chips. Favorite regional thing from Vermont - maple liquor, followed by maple walnut fudge. Combine the three and I'm floating away in ecstasy.
(Boy, I really am sweet obsessed for someone who thinks we should tax sugar.)
-
Yes...all of my ice cream reminisces are as someone that eats refined sugar 6 times per year. I indulge only for specific things each year! But I can indulge my memory and imagination!
-
I have never been a big ice cream eater (have cold sensitive teeth), but I do remember being obsessed by an ice cream called Strawberries and Cream as a teenager.
-
Have you ever had actual fruit and cream, like peaches and cream? I haven't...but sounds good too.
-
Ben & Jerry's Vanilla Heath Bar Crunch. Comparable only to Hagen Daaz's Dulce de Leche.
-
My mom used to make ice cream and she would add fruit, often peaches. Everybody loved it, except me. Go figure! But regarding fruit and pure cream, no I don't think I've had it.
-
We used to eat fruit with sour cream when I was a kid. the only problem with real cream is it would be a little runny, but I imagine it would be good.
-
Knitting needles, yarn, patterns, hip flask - packed.Heading out at the crap of dawn tomorrow. I would tell you all to behave, but know that's not going to happen!! I put aside a modest amount of bail money.Don't use it all. See you next Friday night!
-
How will we survive without our bartender??? Have a good trip!
Mary
-
Big Question for you all - are you having a NOTL get together this year? Doubt we could afford it, but I'd like to try.
Pool all fixed up, then I had to put my IT Nerd cap on - Steve's pc did a check disk and wrecked the virus software which wouldn't reinstall, so I had to restore from back up. He's going - "Can't you get a professional in to fix it" WTF!!!! He's lucky I do fix it. I should make him get a pro pool boy too

-
CLC, a standard Danish summer dessert is fresh berries with heavy cream poured over and sprinkled with sugar. You eat it from a bowl, and at the end the juices from the berries have mixed with the sugar and cream. Unfortunately I am allergic to strawberries and don't like cream, so I never ate it. But most people consider it a treat.
-
Momine... that sounds scrumptious to me. My mother described eating peaches and cream when she was a little girl, but I really don't remember how she ate it, nor could I imagine what was actually in the bowl. The way you describe it, I am sure I would love it. I love cottage cheese and just about any fruit...and cream???? Hmmmmmmmm. Dangerous!
-
Momine - I had raspberries and cream just last night - it was a staple in my childhood here in Canada, that is, any fresh fruit and heavy cream - no sugar if the fruit was ripe - I too am horribly allergic to fresh strawberries but supposedly the cream (or ice cream) cuts down on the substance that causes me to break out in hives.
-
Just dropped by to say hi and to commiserate with Athena, Scoot and HappyLibby on the terrible heat you are enduring. So glad I don't live in the 'swamp' anymore. Pun intended. So I am off to sit in the pool and read my Kindle. Waving hi to all my pals!
-
I remember well having fruit and cream as well. My mom was Scottish and said it was something she grew up with as a child. No sugar just the cream with the fruit. We had many different kinds of fruit but my favorite was blueberries or cherries.
-
while we're talking about cream, tho I wish it had a different name, FRESH clotted cream, Devon, England. On scones, with home made berry jam. Then, just by the spoonful when you run out of scones & berries.
PLEASE send us some of that rain - maybe a thunderrumbler this afternoon - no rain in almost a month - such a strange time. Floods from last summer's Irene decimated VT, and parts around me in MA, now -ground is cracking with dryness. Just can't believe it's only cyclical
-
Sunflowers, welcome to the new and exciting world of global warming! We're now experiencing that old Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times." Can't say we weren't warned.
-
We are having our usual afternoon rains daily here. I would love to send some you way. I remember my grandma used to make clotted cream. I just never knew the name of it, boy is it the best so rich and creamy.
