When is the walk/race? I have no memory left. I don't know whether or not I can do it. I have to see how cortisone shots in my knees work first and if I have shoulder surgery. When is deadline to enter?

Not Me - Sorry I didn't get online this morning to get you the password and answer your questions. I think the t-shirts run large so a small on me seemed pretty big.

Did I happen to mention how much I dislike their web site. I looked all over for times and finally found them....

    Quote:

D1. What is the schedule for Race day?

    * Volunteers begin arriving around 5 am

    * Packet Pickup and Registration (individuals) opens at 7 am and closes at 8:45 am

    * Survivor Café (refreshments breakfast for survivors and invited sponsors and Race Grant Program Leaders) opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 9 am. The Café is th set up for post-Race massages, courtesy of Irene's Myomassology Institute.

    * Shop for the Cure®, Friends for the Cure®, Stuff Check, Children's Area, and Sponsor Booths open at 7 am.

    * Opening Ceremonies, honoring breast cancer survivors and celebrating the lives of lost loved ones, begin at 8 am.

    * Race events (5K Run, 5K Walk and One Mile Walk) begin at 9 am

    * The Awards Ceremony begins at approximately 10:30 am

    * Following the Race, use your free beverage coupon and visit the Detroit Festival of the Arts. "Make a day of it and make a difference!" Shuttles are available to take you from your Race parking spot to the Festival and back. Check the Festival website for more information: www.detroitfestival.com

We walk the 5K (3 miles) and the runners have an area cordoned off on the side of the walkers. They start first so all the walkers can cheer them on. I think most of the crowd walks the 5K or takes the trolley. That is something Ann and Pat could do if they don't feel up to the walk.

Ann - June 10th! It is $25.00 up until May 21st.

    Hi Everyone!

Not Me - I'm glad to see you'll be signing up. I'm envious about the flowers! We meant to get some bulbs planted last fall, but never got around to it. Just taking care of what we have took all my energy. This year we'll definitely be planting some. All we have right now are iris and daylily leaves poking up.

I'm hoping we get at least a few more people signing up. The trolley sounds like a good idea for anyone who doesn't think they'll be able to do the whole walk. That way we can still get to see everyone before and after.

I just bought a new computer - my old one was doing scarey things and driving me crazy. It's amazing how much faster this one is! Still have dial up, but everything else is great. What a difference. I spent the last week transferring everything to the new one (including hundreds of photos). And am happy to say it looks like everything went without a hitch (knock on wood).

I also splurged and got a 19" lcd monitor (I had a 15"). I figure if I'm stuck with the dry eye from chemo, I need a bigger monitor so I can see it more comfortably.

Also had three acquaintances pass away in the last week. Unfortunately, two from BC (recurrances/mets). The other was lung cancer. I didn't really know any of them well at all and have to confess that I really, really, wanted to ask a lot of questions about their original diagnosis. I guess to see how they compared to mine. I didn't, of course. I assume this is normal?

Sphynx - thanks for gathering all the information. I agree about their web site!

    Take care everyone.

SEI-So sorry to hear of your friends that passed. I hate going thru that...but I guess it life. But when it is cancer, well then it makes me think about things.

Nancy-Can you pretty please send me the password?

    Everyone else-How are things?

I had a busy week at work and ended up doing some work in Muskegon area on Thursday and Friday. I managed to get out for a great hike on the sand dunes of Lake MI. I really really love this great state...we have so much natural beauty here. In a few weeks we are heading up to MI Tech to see daughter's graduation...I sure hope it doesn't snow!

    Take care!

Irene - sorry about the deaths of your friends. I had a slew of relatives and acquaintences pass away recently also and another last weekend of someone who was only 51. I ran into him at one of the funerals 3 months ago and he didn't know he had cancer until the following week. He went downhill really fast from esophogal cancer. I never heard of pancreatic or esophogal cancer a few years ago and now it seems like everyone is dropping from it!

We have another team member of a friend of mine. So 5 members now! She had a hard time signing up until I sent her the invite to her email address. If you know anyone who you want to invite that way, let me know by emailing me or send me a private message with their email address.

Not Me - could you see the team page with those links above? It is great you are almost done with school! This is your masters, right?

Pat may be signing up and says she may walk a mile or so. I told her about the trolley also. No need to walk if you cannot do it. We will still meet and catch up with everyone.

Don't forget to ask Melissa for a t-shirt. You can have it sent to you or wait until we have a full team and have the banner and t-shirts sent to me if you want. You also get a t-shirt from the race.

I talked to gmr52 and she is sad that she is not able to join our team. She has fun things happening though so we will have to forgive her!

Of course, people can sign up even if they don't make it. It is still going to a good cause and making our team the biggest survivor team! No pressure of course, just a thought. But, when we win for the biggest team, you come back at a later date for some ceremony that isn't that weekend.

    Like Not Me said.....

We are going for the biggest team of survivors!!!

We have a new team member and are now up to six. I found out that you cannot view the team page since it is only for team captains. So, anyone that is signed-up who wants to be a deputy team captain let me know.

People may may want to change their profile to NOT display their last name.

It is not obvious how to do that and I’m sure you will get tired of me whining about the bad web site. When you sign up, follow all the steps and sign your life away with all the waivers. Then it will ask you if you want an Active.com account. Go ahead and create one with a username and password. Once you pay online and give an email address, they will send you about six email message and confirmations. One of those is a link to edit your personal information. I removed the last name and left one character (some last name is required). So, It only shows up as [first name last initial]. All public pages now show that information (team page).

I’m sorry that I do not know if this will be a problem if they delay in charging your credit card. I am thinking it will not match your last name. I’m hoping that they charge your card quickly and it will not hurt. It wasn’t a problem for mine since it is already on my bill.

I'm all for meeting before June if anyone wants to get together. We could always meet at one of the metro parks and have a practice walk. It is getting to be beautiful out. I walk almost daily and Bella and I would like the company! I've never been to Kensington but it is close to Novi where we usually meet, right? Hudson Mills is beautiful. We could always have lunch and walk.

    Have a great Easter!

I forgot to ask how we would handle race packets. I have mine mailed to me but if you didn't select that option, I will pick up the team packets in advance.

Also, I'll wait until more people sign up and ask Melissa to send us the banner and t-shirts all at once.

    Thanks, everyone.

Glad to see more people signed up. Should we post on the other boards in case there are other Michigan people who would like to walk and haven't seen this thread?

I didn't pick the mailing option for the packets. I was thinking I could just go down and pick it up. I don't think it was too awful far from work. Of course, I could be wrong.

I'd be in for a lunch before the walk. I think a walk afterwards is a good idea also. It seemed that lunch was too short last time. If we did both, then those who aren't up to walking would at least be able to join us for lunch.

Should we try to reserve the little nook now that we know they DO take reservations? If need be, we could always play the C card.

Candi - Glad to hear you're doing well!

Our team is growing, we now have 10 members! I hope to post announcements on the other topics as soon as I get some time. If anyone else wants to do that, please do. I’m pretty sure there will be a way for me to pick up the packets in advance. That will save some time standing in line on race day.

If we have a get-together near the end of the month, I can give you them then or when we meet. Ha – we can play the cancer card and get our special nook at the Olive Garden. You're right though Irene, we probably have to do that soon if we are going to get together.

You should let your friends know that joining the team does not mean they cannot walk with their friends and relatives. Of course, they can join the team also but we will find a way to meet up and sign the banner even if we do not all walk together. A few people are running, a few will probably take the trolley and a bunch of us will walk together. You still get the cheaper rate if you join the team. Individual rates went up. Another incentive is Melissa will give us bcdotorg t-shirts.

Hope all is well with everyone.

I would love to meet before...but my schedule is a bit crazy for the next two months...unless its during the week. We should plan out the day of the race as well. I love this Spring weather we are having!

    Nancy,
Should know by the end of today if I'll be joining your team. Bob is putting in his request for Friday the 9th of June off so we can drive up there.
If it's a go, would love to get some hotel suggestions for the surrounding area...nothing too expensive please

That would work for me Irene.

Kats (Mary) hope you can make it. I have some hotel suggestions in the suburbs but others may also have some.

I have been posting the password "bcdotorg" for the team sign-up.

I think if you post too often, they lock you out of sites. Probably looks like spam. I'll pick up on other topics at another time.

Hope all is well with everyone. I'm loving this weather - and so is Bella!

Welcome kats! Three all the way from Chicago - woohoo! I sent you some hotel suggestions (more like which suburbs to stay in) but if anyone else has suggestions, please pass them on to kats.

We are up to 13 members. Only two more are needed to be official. I know of two more people who are planning on joining but they do not come to this web site.

What does everyone think about meeting at the Olive Garden parking lot on race morning? Any suggestions? We can have a meet site at Comerica park also - especially for our Windsor friends who are coming from the East. But, maybe we can do some car pooling in Novi? Anyone drive a van?

Hope all is well with everyone.

How far is everyone walking? My knees are feeling a little better--Does that mean the femara isn't working, i'm getting used to it or I'm poisoning myself with tylenol for arthritis? Who knows? When are you meeting beforehand? I don't think I can walk more than a mile, although I'll try to make myself start practicing. How do I sign up? Do I have to find sponsors or just pay myself?
I seem to have been having trouble with this website lately & with my computer too.

    Ann,
I can start you off with some info until Nancy checks in here.

If you click on the link below it will take you to a post that Nancy set up giving details.
    http://community.breastcancer.org/ubbthr...ge=0#Post309048

I signed up for the 5K walk, Nancy said some are doing the run and some the 5K walk. There's also a 1 mile walk and a Trolley that you can take to if you can't do the walk. I have foot problems so the 5K will be a challenge for me.

There's a Team registration fee of $25.00. You don't need to get sponsors, there is an option of making a fundraising page so you can ask friends and family to donate.

Kats - Glad you'll be joining us!

Maybe we could do two car pools - one for the east side and one for the west side? The eastsiders could PM me with their city (I'm coming from the I-69/M-53 area) and the westsiders could PM Sphynx and then we'll all work out all the details. Maybe with a group meet somewhere in between (like Oakland Mall?)? Just an idea.

If you guys could let me know where the meeting place the morning of the race will be I'll then make my hotel reservations. I'd like to be able to do that within the next week or maybe two. Nancy mentioned possibly meeting at the Olive Garden (I guess in parking lot) in Novi.

    Thanks

I think we are about half and half from the East and West side. How about we each pick the best spot on our side of town and so neither of us have to double back. Then, do any car pooling or following and meet as a team at the Survivor's tent?

I made some suggestions for hotels for kats in Novi and West side cities. I'm not familiar with the East side to help there. I think most of the West siders are in Canton so, maybe meeting in Novi is not the best since they can take 96 instead of 696.

Kats - I'm glad you didn't make your reservations yet. Let me call the Canton people and see if they have suggestions of a better place to meet. I'll get back to you today!

I will be picking up the packets in advance and I'll put the schedule below if anyone wants to join me. That way, you can get your stuff early.

I know there is a shorter walk but I'm not sure where it starts or ends. I'll try to find that out for you also.

We have a May 21st deadline to join online! Candi, Anna, hope you can make it! Follow the link kats gave above and use the password of "bcdotorg". There is no pressure to fundraise but if you want to nudge your company to sponsor you, they could absorb the sign-on fee of $25.00.

Kats already has donations! The donation amounts show up in the team total. A big thank you to her family and friends!

I was sooooo looking forwards to this....... But I guess I'll have to wait until next year..... But isn't there another walk sooner than that...... I know theres one at the Detroit Zoo in Sept or Oct I think..... One of my girlfriends said we (all my girls) were going to walk it this year........

    Anyways, I'm so disappointed......

Shoot Candi, sorry you can't make it. There is always next year.

I'm still not sure where to tell kats to meet and to stay. Do the West siders have any ideas? Would Canton or Livonia be better to be able to hop on 275 or 96 quickly?

I would suggest for Kats that she might try a hotel by the airport..... She will be coming in off I-94 I assume, and she can take I-94 straight into Downtown Detroit....

Also, there are a few hotels off I-275 between Ann Arbor Road and Eight Mile...... I can't think of their names off the top of my head..... I know I went to a wedding and we stayed in one right off 275......

I'm so bummed I can't go....... I hope you gals have a blast......

    Hugs.....
