It's only Sunday night there and Monday here - what's going on ? I thought flareups were restricted to Fridays. Pity I can't imbibe at my desk :)

Welcome gardengumby! SusieQ - I'll have an extra one in your honor. Going to try acupuncture tomorrow, desperate says the woman who has a pathological fear of needles.

I believe you can also twist your hair or twirl your rings perhaps.  Sometimes throwing plates seems most appropriate though.

We finally got out of the triple digit temps but still no rain Frown  The lower temps should be heading out to those of you on the east coast tomorrow maybe.

Hi scuttlers ... good to see you again.  And welcome to CLC.  Athena ... that lion/fire picture is just plain awesome.  The whole lot of you have been on a roll here ...

re a certain active thread - double standards is all I can say

So much for not having wine for a week as Steve suggested - we've had one every night since he said it - I can't help I keep cooking really yummy food that goes well with a glass of wine :)

I brought some of my lasagne for my little Chinese sidekick (Pete) to taste. He seems to love lasagne - hope mine is to his taste. I've given him the recipe, but if he plays his cards right, he could wait until I cook it and bring him some :)

I might be a bit slow but . . . does everyone else already know about that the little button just above the reply box here that says "Back to top". It really does take you back to the top of the page! And there is the list of My Favourites making it ever so easy to get to the next thread on my favourites to see what is going on. I noticed it on my iPhone and found that it works just as well here on the desktop.

Just thought I'd share that revelation while I sip my rum and orange juice. Have to prevent getting a cold because I am visiting my father with my grandson tomorrow. What a gift it is to take the little one (he's 8) to see his great grandfather. We might even see my son on the adventure. And it's under 30C without the humidex tomorrow.

scuttlers - acupuncture is really not painful at all - the "needles" are so, so, so thin - they are nothing liek what you think of when you say "needles" - as in sewing, or injections.  teeeeeeeny, weeeeeeeny little thin things.

I only "feel" it when I have them near my nose - allergies - and then it's only a milisecond of a 'pinch" feeling

My knees are SO SO SO SO  much better since I've been seeing an acupuncturist, and I don't have any more joint pain from AI.

Hope it helps you too....nice to see you again..

ALso, welcome to gardengumby - who I 'know" from another threadKiss

eta: no idea where or what the frumpus was, but glad I missed it...

Could it really be? The guvmint trying to ration hospital beds? At least that's what I infer? I suppose next time you have surgery you will have to lie on the floor and the surgeon will have to operate crosslegged. All because of the ACA.....

Here are the facts in response to the misinformation being spread on the ACA.

    http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/twenty-six-lies-about-hr-3200/

This is from FactCheck.org a nonpartisan fact checking organization.

The ACA needs improving but how can it be improved when people don't know the facts?

Agreed, Notself. And I think that's part of the tactic. Mix up the facts so that people won't really know what the ACA is. Straight from the Karl Rove playbook.

wowweeee...now da gummint ( you'se done speltitwrong) is rationing hospital beds?  So now we get to share with the partner of our choice???? Yipppeeeee...

found the frumpus, but guess I miss alot of this valuable info cuz of my Ignore (Sealed) buttons...still, it's worth it. No hair pulling, beads in one piece....

more good wishes to scuttlers - really hope the acupuncture helps...will be thinking of you tomorrow - be sure to let us know...

Good wishes to scuttlers too - and glad to see it's helped you, sun...

ETA: I do think a lot of people don't know when they are falling for Rovian tactics. Our schools don't do a good job of educating people about which are good sources of information and which are not. And I don't mean sources by name, but sources by a critical, analytical examination.

I've got it on mental file who cited a Pew Research Study for what reason.  Really?  That is a legitimate source I'm happy to call on when needed for back up.

    Hope I'm welcome here.

I was responding to Athena's post on citing good sources of information.  On occassion, some individuals who might rely on Drudge, Wash Times, etc. might cite a real legit source, one they might, in the future claim as a librul source.  If they use it, they've legitimized it, imo.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying - welcome though. :)

It's hard to identify what a credible source is by name, but generally more credible sources are ones that rely on raw data rather than heresay, making reports by think tanks and independent agencies GENERALLY more reliable than newspaper or blog reports - let alone reports by bandits like Drudge who probably never met a bit of raw data they could understand. Reports that can cite raw data sources are also more credible, as are reports from sources that fully disclose their backing, and that have a track record of being reliable. Types of reports are more credible than others. I wouldn't give a cent of credibility to a Wall Street Journal editorial, but I would read a news article from that paper. These are all generalizations. We are lucky to live in a country where government raw data is also believable (even if its press releases are not always so).

The reputation of the source can also be a clue.  Here is a partial list of sources I feel are nonpartisan and creditable.

Pew Research Center covers many topics and is considered the most accurate polling company in the USA.  http://pewresearch.org/  Their landmark survey of religion in America is outstanding.  Take time to read about their methodology.

Snopes is the foremost site for debunking urban legends and viral emails.  http://www.snopes.com/

FactCheck.org has interesting analysis of statement of politicians.  Some of these complain of bias but a quick look at "The Wire" section will clearly show nonpartisan information.  The section on viral emails is amazing.  http://factcheck.org/

PolitiFact is the most fun fact check site with its section called the "Truth-O-Meter" and its "Pants on Fire" award. One can look up the ratings for individual politicians.  It also tracks promises made by politicians and if those promises have been kept. http://www.politifact.com/

Notself, don't be silly! Factcheck.org is owned by Soros, the dark knight of liberalism and world government, didn't you know??? ;)

Who cares about good or bad sources when we have a guvmint what's tryin' to have our surgeons operate doggy style 'cause it's rationing beds and tables. Tongue out Let's see what Rush has to say about that.

(Sorry this humidity is making me silly even though I am indoors. Also, I am being asked to calculate something totally above and beyond me - that's the trouble with doing good work - you get pushed up to the levels of your incompetence.)
