The scientist should have called it "Climate Destabilization".  That is really what we are facing.  We will have more storms, summer and winter. There will be more frequent extremes in weather, summer and winter.  There will be more floods and droughts all while the climate gets progressively warmer.  These extremes will impact crops, water table levels, river and lake levels as well as coast lines.

We have had record ice storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding and drought.  Our climate is unstable.

Speaking seriously, it is as you say. Some countries are having awful rains and millions are losing their homes and livelihood as a result. The Polar Bear we know is threatened. Really, I can stand roasting in hell for being a liberal Wink- what worries me is that we know this isn't just a very bad summer - it is a sign of what is happening. People are dying here too.

But expecting Congress to act and pass a good carbon cap and trade bill....well, that won't happen any time soon. I think those who stop everything because they hate that a black man is in power are unpatriotic. They'd sooner see the country sink. That's nihilism.

Yesterday Toronto set a record of 36C (96F) with a humidex that upped it to 47C (116F).  Slightly cooler here in Niagara.  But this a.m. we had a thunderstorm and now there is a lovely breeze coming from the northwest and the temp is about 26C.
So, maybe a break will be coming your way soon, Athena!  Fingers crossed.  Of course, this is temporary......Frown.

I totally agree that climate change is much the preferred term.  Certainly more accurate, but that won't stop the dittoheads from claiming 97% of climatologists worldwide don't know what they're talking about.  When did science become a 4-letter word?

Science became a 4 letter word at the same time the word liberal did.  It says everything when Rush L. calls his listeners "ditto heads" and they are proud of it.

We'll be sending you guys our cool air in the next few days. Finally, we got rain. More in the past two days than in the past two months combined. Welcome to monsoon season. Dh, a meteorologist, has reminded me that "monsoon" denotes a wind pattern, and often heavy rains are associated. I always thought "monsoon" meant a rain pattern. He takes all the fun out of it sometimes...

Anyway, it's blanket on the bed weather and I love it. Hot flashes seem so much more tolerable. The downside is flooding in the burn areas. I am sending you poor roasting souls some cooling thoughts. Or G&Ts, if all else fails!

I think hell is where all my fellow atheist friends will be along with the finest minds in the history of humankind.  It really doesn't seem so bad.  Besides, I think Lucifer got a bum rap. He is like Prometheus who was punished for eternity for bringing humans fire.  Lucifer brought fruit from the tree of knowledge.  Same old mythology, different god.

Oh yeah, I'm goin' ta hell ... And I'm taking CLC's class!

Notself, I hadn't actually put that together -- Prometheus and Lucifer. No wonder certain segments of the populace are anti-intellectual. Explains a great deal.

It was brutal here in DC metro today. The a/c in our truck just couldn't keep up. It is supposed to get better next week ... I hope so, since I'm starting back to work half-days starting Monday and have about a quarter-mile up and down a hill to get to the bus. Ugh!

Even though I don't post terribly often, I do lurk -- and I do appreciate you all. You make me smile!

And then a "cold" front comes in....until the next heat wave. Sad to think that the summer is still young.

(((Barbara)))) - how are you?  What's happening with work?  Hope things are better, or becoming better.  Kinda weird, no, that we in the mid west & north east are hotter than FLA???

CLC - Climate change, naw, must be summpin da gummint speramenting wid...doncha tink?

Ladies used to always wear pearls with their cashmere twin sets.  Twisting one's pearls was a sign of ill ease.  Kiss

Does tearing your hair out work?  I have pearls but twisting them seems so - odd.  Sealed

no - definitely not the pearl twisting type - I'm more the screaming and tearing my hair out type....  :)

I bought some Martinelli's sparkling mango lemonade - think I'll add a little rum and see how it tastes.....  THEN I'll tear my hair out...  Kiss

Gotta have hair to tear it out - I'll go get the mag glass and check the chin ... Or just skip the need to tear and have a Campari, straight up, no ice, twist of lime, please.
