CLC...when you block someone, you can see that they posted but not WHAT they posted. They also cannot send you private messages.

I used to tussle with certain people but it's really destructive to me and others. Better to just plug my ears and do the "Na Na I can't hear you" dance.

    Just my two cents!

Thanks for your 2 cents.  I may just give it a shot next time my emotional well-being yells for it.  :)

So much for laying off the wine - we had a very nice sparkling shiraz tonight. I made lasagne for the first time in years. We had some when we were away at our SIL's aunt's house and it tasted exactly like mine - turns out she uses the same recipe. I've been craving it ever since. It was absolutely perfect - heaps left if any of you want some, but no wine to go with it.

Steve playing golf tomorrow - I might go shopping with the $250 gift card I got for buying an energy efficient pool pump.

Was supposed to rain today, dark clouds arrived after lunch. I moved all of the washing under cover and it didn't rain - whatever.

A basic rule of nature - it never rains if you plan for it.

Good morning to all! Temps expected to hit 108 today, a temp I've never experienced. Obviously, its a liberal plot to distort natural climate change. Just like the woman Obama comforted in the rope line - the one whose uninsured sister died from cancer. Yep, another plot. Libs are so conniving. *eye roll*

CLC, I have lengthy and substantial experience with blocking people -- it dramatically improves the QOL in some neighborhoods here. And if someone is so unpleasant that I must block them, I really don't care to answer any question they might ask .... It is probably phrased in such a rude and snide manner that I wouldn't answer it anyway if I COULD see it. I also don't worry about losing the thread of the discussion, because the people I have blocked generally just regurgitate talking points, and I find they contribute nothing to a discussion anyway.

Yeah, Scoot - it IS a librul plot. Doncha know? We have turned up the thermostat in hell (because that is where most of us go) and made it so hot that the gummint will be forced to buy everyone air conditioners, thus perpetuating our dependence on the gummint for things we should go out and buy ourselves, like health insurance and school lunches.

Guess I have either had too much or not enough coffee this morning. Retreating to the corner snarling and clutching my coffee.

i need to block several people, but the kerfluffle may not last long. Political discussions not based on health care generally are not allowed to flourish.

spewing hot tea over the keys thanks to HL.  gummint.  how perfect is that??? I can hear it now as I type it.  just perfect

I use the ignore, and it makes life so much easier, after a few snide comments, and unwelcome PM's, seems the best it that the person can't PM you.

Athena, seems hard to believe - and this is just early July.  the mind boggles....

and for no particular reason, too. Maybe this librul is simply roasting in hell - for living so close to the seat of gummint. Wink

I don't block anyone and find it much like an anthropological dig to see what some people post. Fortunately, none of it is personal (to me, in my own mind) so it is just curiousity. One thing this board has shown me is the wide diversity of politics in the US. There clearly are the "me first/I deserve it" crowd and there are the "all of us are in this together" crowd. It's very interesting.  Thank goodness there is such a good bar here to recover from the surprise of some of the anthropology.

Gummint is such an appropriate term.  They do have a way of gumming things up don't they?  I wonder why anyone would want to give them access to more things to gum up?

Lassie, I think we are getting an increasing amount of the "politics of resentment" here in Canada, influenced by the conservative movement in the U.S. and the decision by our Conservative Prime Minister to encourage it.  My answer (as a life-long Liberal) is to merge the Lib and NDP parties ASAP.  Compromise is key (as in most things) and I think it's the only thing that will save us from falling into the abyss (oh, and maybe we could entice Elizabeth May to join us -- actually make her the Leader, maybe?!!).

As for our American cousins -- while some of them believe that the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness at the expense of others is justified, we both know that the vast majority do not hold that view.  And we're so lucky to know some of the very finest -- right here Kiss.

Lindasa - totally agree about the politics of resentment here!  Our PM would feel very at home at a Tea Party event. I can hardly wait for some of the Elections Canada investigations to complete and very much hope they do so before the next election.

Ya'll are too funny!  Welcome CLC. We do have fun here don't we?

Gosh, I can't believe how hot it is in DC area.  How do you survive?  My dh is coming home from there on Monday and every day he complains about the heat.  He has to go outside to talk to me (poor cell phone reception in the house) and by the time he is done, he is sweating through his clothes.

Thurs I tried to go to the barn and ride but I was hurting too much from the change in weather so I opted for my trainer to ride her instead.  Yesterday I never got out of bed except to try to walk around the block late last night.  I have a horse show next Saturday so I need to get out there today and ride but dangit - not feeling well.

I don't use the ignore function because I am too curious to see what is written. Wink  I let my fingers do the ignoring. Laughing

LOL. Yes, we liberals comtinue to roast in Hell - probably for spreading the myth of global warming. Here is the Washington Post:

....and global waming doesn't exist - it's all a liberal conspiracy that DC weather is breaking records left and right. From the Post:

1:45 p.m. update: Reagan National has now hit 104. That breaks the record for the day by 2 degrees and matches the highest temperature we've seen this summer (the high reached 104 on June 29). Getting closer to the all-time record of 106.

1:00 p.m. update: D.C. has at least tied the record for the date with a 1 p.m. reading of 102. Temperatures around the area are in the upper 90s to low 100s, and Baltimore (BWI) has also tied a record high with 101 at this hour. Temperatures could continue to climb for at least another few hours. With the sun angle and temperatures high, now might be a good time to spend indoors.

Temperatures: Latest D.C. area temperature map. See interactive map on our Weather Wall.

From 11:59 a.m: According to observers, at 11:35 a.m., Reagan National Airport hit 101 degrees. This may be a new record for the earliest in the day we've topped 100. This is Washington's first stretch of three days of 100 degrees or higher since July 8-10, 1993, when it hit 100 on the nose three days in a row. It's also only the fifth time on record we've seen a stretch like this. The record is four days in a row 100+, set in 1930.

I think one big mistake was calling it "global warming". I think it should be called "climate change". When it's called global warming, people look at record Low temperatures and say, "See? It's not warming....." Idjuts.

We don't get a lot of snow here in the Seattle area, and when we do, there is a certain local conservative talk show host that gloats, "How can we be having global warming and have so much snow here in Seattle?" Again, I say, idjuts!

I am fortunate to be a biology teacher, and I get to teach about climate change.  I find it very rewarding to explain that global warming increases the likelihood of snow in certain places and get the kids to figure out why.  I wish I could get the idjuts in power into my classroom.  Man, do I wish I could just get them in my classroom...sigh...
