ali68 - That sucks. Why wouldn't he be supporting you at a time like this? Like you need any more stress in your life?
midnight1327 - Good luck with your mammogram Friday. Your brother-in-law sounds like a waste of oxygen (sorry to be blunt but how could he even imply that?!)

Hello sisters
i haven't posted in a while as I have been a bit down following some bad news. I was on Herceptin and it was working very well. 2 different Onc consultants enthused on how well it was controlling the tumours. Well in between the January and May CT Scans for some reason the Herceptin stopped working and the metastised liver tumours started to grow again.
I got a PICC line inserted and am back on Chemo. I am now getting Irinotecan with Fluorouracil (known as 5FU) and Folinic acid - if any of you have ever heard of that regime. I started it on 11 May and will get the treatment via IV Infusion ever 2nd Friday afternoon in the clinic, and will wear a pressurised bottle of chemo over the weekend attached to the PICC line. I then have to go back to the clinic on the Monday morning to have the bottle removed and the PICC line, where it enters my arm, to be dressed and sterilised. On Wednesday of the following week I have to go to the clinic to give bloods and have the PICC dressed and sterilised again. This will continue for 6 months. I was proverbially " seriously knocked back " when I was given the news about the Herceptin not working any more but have managed to pick myself up and get back into the fight with this accursed decease.
Amylstring it's a while sinse I have been in Letterkenny. The Giant's Causeway is really worth visiting and they are building a new visitor centre there. I would also recommend a visit to the Bushmills Distillery, after the tour you get a fee sample ! !
Nora I know the Antrim coast well. really beautiful scenery in that part of the world especially the Glens of Antrim. I aslo know Newry and Meigh. In fact there are some football matches I go to and the f/ball ground is not very far away from there.
Mardibra believe it or not when I used to drink whisky I drank Scotch rather than Irish. Bushmills is very well known but I was never very fond of it as a drink. My drink of choice is the draft black stuff - draft Murphy's or Guiness stout. Maybe if I had drunk less the cancer mightn't have metastised into my liver. LOL
Ali68 what part of UK you in? I'm in Belfast NI.

Hi frankh, sorry to hear your news but I'm glad you are infighting mode again. I live in Manchester lived in London before that.

recently diagnosed, waiting to have mastectomy on 6/14. just starting to deal with friends and family's reactions. I was a little down in the dumps today, but a reading this thread has really helped. I have gotten so much from the posts here, I am glad I am living at a time where I can get the support and understanding from people that I don't even know.
'Namaste, bitch' has taken me from tears of sadness to tears of joy in a nanosecond. like the other poster said, just thinking about it makes me laugh all over again. thank you to all of you wonderful ladies (and gentleman). -
Wow - this is a great thread.... So - here's my little story....
Yesterday, I took a coworker to jamba juice, where I encountered an acquaintance. She said - is your name Lee? Ok, I look quite a bit different with this fro rug thing on my head (post chemo curliness... I just don't now what to do with it)... So that was fine.
She said, I saw that news piece with you in it (I got interviewed because I was part of a clinical trial) - and I been wanting to tell you ever since that I went through the same thing... Oh wow - I said.... Pause. It was benign, she said. Umm.... I was silenced.... She went on to talk about how she knows exactly what I've gone through because she's been there herself.... Oh man, I wanted to tell her to go ffff herself.... And more.... But I was there with my coworker... And so I remained relatively silent.
News flash - a cancer scare is ffff-ing scary..... But it's not ffff-ing cancer!
Happily, my coworker, who's wife just finished rads.... He was delightfully sensitive and sweet towards me about that.... And kind of couldn't wait to tell his wife the story.
Deep breath in.... Deep breath out.... Repeat.... I'm thankful I remained silent and did not make a scene. I'm further grateful to learn how awesome my coworker is. Lastly, that woman can seriously go ffff herself!
Thank you all for these great stories!
And PB - I wish you a smooth and boring surgery next week. -
Crazy kitties - you totally fucking kick ass! Forgot to add that.....

I have loved reading all the posts. I have found that most of my really good friends have been there for me through the 6 chemos I have had so far (2 more to go then lots of other stuff).
I can totally agree with those people that come up and look they are going to cry and I am the one with the fricken chemo being annoying as hell. Seriously?? Especially on the days when I am actually feeling good. Or the women that comment about how my hair will grow back and it's not a big deal. Too many times I have bitten my tongue and not yelled "if it's not such a big deal, how about you shave your head as well then?"
Not sure if anyone else has had people comment on how well you look, even when inside you are feeling like death. "Oh gee I am sorry I am not looking like I feel, next time I will make a point to look worse"
I love that someone started this thread, venting at times in a forumn of other people going through the same thing is often the only place we have.
Well done to you all.
-
There are lots of threads on BC.org where venting is commonplace, appropriate and understood by all. It feels good to get it out. However, this thread began with someone wanting to tell family and friends to F-off In Real Life That is not the same. Not to me, anyway. As much as we might think it, as much as they might deserve it, going off on someone IRL is rarely the best action, causing complications on top of cancer. Who needs to add additional woes to their B/C woes?
Definitely unburden your anger here. Just don't let B/C become an excuse for sharpening your tongue IRL. It's already done enough damage to you.
IMHO.
-
I needed this. I am so angry and hurt by my family that I have been in tears all evening. I don't know if I quite have the cahonies to tell the to "F" off but it would feel so good right now I am sure!
-
Wow. I must say you handled that much better than I would have. I'm pretty sure I would have lost it in the store.
I'm so sorry about your cat.
You would think someone working at a pet store would have some sympathy in that situation.
-
Hadley- you go girl! Let em have it!
-
Hadley,
I am so sorry for the loss of your cat.
I don't shop at Petsmart because cat food is cheaper at my local grocery store, and litter is cheaper at Walmart. My cat will not eat "premium" food, she only likes the cheap stuff!
That woman has a serious mental health problem.

Just stumbled upon this page. Wish I'd found it sooner! I love telling people to f&%$ off!
I love when weight gain is pointed out...like I don't own a mirror.
I love when people wanna know why I'm tired and feel like shit sometimes. I'm done w/chemo, I should be back to normal. Whatever.
I love how my best friends were no where around, and the unexpected people were in my life.
If this is the place to bitch, I'm in!
-
Oh yea, one more. I love it when friends bitch about having a bad hair day, to me. I tell them atleast you have hair bitch. That shuts them up! F&%$ers!
-
My family and friends have said I have changed, I am more bitchy and to the point. Maybe I'm not a walk over anymore and I have a voice.
I know think I'll say what I think instead of hiding it.
