Jan - how exciting for you! I hope you're going out and celebrating!!
-
Jan get packing --- what a wonderful place to vacation -- it is beautiful there.
-
Thank you all. I'll be having a glass of champagne at 6pm pst. We are grilling steaks tonight, neighbors and friends are coming over to celebrate. I was so tired, I took a nap so I'm rested for the evening. Like all of you, they have been great supporters! I received a cute certificate today for completing my Radiation Therapy, funny it has a cute pic of a sun
with sunglasses on it. The personalized M&Ms were a big hit with the radiation staff. The M&Ms have a picture of me on them, the breast cancer ribbon, words of Thx and of course 'No More Rads Yea'. I'll see if I can upload a picture. Lynne
-
Lynne, glad things are done -- enjoy your celebration tonight and put that certificate someplace so you can look at it occassionally --- congrats ---
-
Katy - Hi. I'm from the April/May rads group. My RO insisted only thing to use was Xclair with Aquaphor over. That there was "something else" if that was not covered by my insurance but never had to ask. I used it, still got some blistering underneath but don't know it that was destined to be anyway. Nothing else to compare to so I used it. I did buy some cheap camis from Dollar General to wear under my scrubs to keep the Aquaphor off. And some cheap nightgowns from Goodwill to trash from being greased down. Seems to have worked. And I detested the feel of the Aquaphor, quite vocal on group, but grew to love it and still do. Xclair website says for radiaton burns and other burns.
It is quite expensive. If you were just starting there is a buy one/get one offer from a mail order pharmacy. Needs dr. prescription. Bought one tube locally and then ordered that.
Hope this helps.
-
Luvmygoats--thanks for the info, and thanks for popping over from the April/May group. I asked my RO for a prescription today. I know it's pricey stuff, but I like the feel so much better than Aquaphor.
Good idea about the camis and nighties. I've been wearing my good cotton nighties and just washing them every day, but I don't want them ruined. Maybe I'll just wear my husband's old undershirts. I hope our house doesn't catch on fire...with my hair 1/4 inch long, no makeup or earrings, in my husby's underwear, the firefighters would be calling me "sir"!
Treatment #16 today. I'm counting them off.
My cancer has needed pretty much the whole frying pan thrown at it--lumpectomy, TAC chemo, mastectomy, radiation, femara, reconstruction next year. But...if I were Stage 0 or 1, knowing what I know now, I believe I would have pushed hard for a bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. I'd have skipped the radiation, thanks for the offer.
Every physician I talked to said "Oh, radiation is a walk in the park," but that's just not true. I'd like one of them to lie under the manhole cover while it broils their skin and innnards for fifteen minutes EVERY DAY, thinking about cancer and recurrence and burns and blisters, and then try to live normally with a burning chest/armpit/neck/back for six weeks. Then let's talk about walks in the park.
Well, thanks, that little tirade felt good. I'm off to ride my bike and look for snakes.
-
I agree with your tirade!
Toasting jitters and Jan! -
I'm here with my champagne. Thank you for all of your support. Even though I'm finished with this treatment phase I'll be here in the forum for the rest of you.

So happy for you jitters and Lynne!!
I hear you strong and brave! So, last Sunday we came home from picking someone up from the airport (it was about 9PM) and there was a diamondback laying across our stone fence in the backyard! Then, today, I was late to my radiation appointment because my cat was playing "catch" with a scorpion in the kitchen. I don't think I did anyone any good by running around the kitchen screaming, "no Zula, leave it alone!!" - the dog came in, Zula ignored me and continued to slam it up in the air 'at' me, and I ran screaming around the kitchen -- good times!
-
Seriously stop with the snake talk as I am about to go to sleep. You will all be to blame for my nightmares
-
I can picture the exact scenario .. go Zula
-
BLinthedese --- I am so glad it is you and not me .... first the snake would be the end of me ... and then the scorpion .... I don't think Arizona is the place for me.
-
My mom just texted to see if I want to spend the afternoon at the winery after my last rad. I can't wait. I plan to fit a pedicure in this weekend just for good measure
-
ha ha ha ... mckenna I did not post the picture that I took! Wine tasting!! PERFECT way to end radiation!
Joanne, you get used to it - winters are lovely, mild, and no insects or snakes, only the summers are tough!
Yes Lynne, Zula is beside herself with pride
-
mckenna - now that is a great way to celebrate --- enjoy the winery and the pedicure .....
-
Why did you vote no on Oncotype?
-
Lynne - Congrats on finishing! You must be so happy and relieved!
mckenna - that sounds like a great way to celebrate!
BL - oh my, I couldn't live there either. Snakes would freak me out! I'd have to go somewhere else for the summer.
#14 for me today. Half way done. I'm starting to feel some tightness and I'm now using the Miaderm twice a day and I may up it to more often.
It seems many people think rads are "a walk in the park." Ugh. I'm right with you on the tirade SB. It's so much packed into 5 - 6 weeks compared to my chemo 16 infusions over 20 weeks. It makes sense why we get so tired from it. There's really no recovery time. I think rads are as hard as chemo but in a different way.
-
So much for the bike ride. I got a flat, fumbled around to change the tube, and wound up walking home in disgust so the husby could get HIS hands all dirty.
The snakes in So Cal are safe from my camera tonight.
BL...I'm laughing my socks off at your description of Zula and the scorpion. Scorpions aren't supposed to fly. I'd be running and screaming too!
-
BL - oh my goodness. Snakes and scorpions. ICK! I would have been screaming my head off, I'm sure!
I'm gearing up to go to #7; the tech who I've been dealing with so far has not been warm and fuzzy lately - matter of fact it's been the opposite and it makes thinking about going even more difficult to know that when you get there you're going to be treated like an 'it' rather than a person. I'm probably being too sensitive, but it's how I've been feeling this week there. As silly as it sounds, I'm *really* tired of being drawn on. It's funny how I can purposefully ignore the radiation procedure itself and trick my brain into thinking I'm just getting more xrays, but when they start to write on me again it feels almost humiliating. I don't know why it bothers me so much, but it does.
-
neeners, i got switched to a different machine for a few days due to a scheduling issue and i did not like the team on that machine and it made it much harder to gear up to go each day. do you have the tattos? i would ask why they have to keep drawing on you if you have the tatoos.
bl, sorry for the disappointing bike ride. i think we are going to ride to the park tonight. it is beautiful weather here and it is going to get hot again soon.
2more days until our 2 day break!!!
-
neeners, I had tattoos and one "floater" tech drew on me -- I only had her one day and I was disgusted and felt degraded -- I was not happy. It is also the way she did it. She is the only tech that seemed the need to mark me up .... I guess she needed glasses.
hope it gets better .....
-
Yesterday was my first treatment and the techs wrote all over me. I guess I thought they covered up all their marks with the waterproof tape, but no such luck. My pink bra was sharpie blue striped by the time I took it off last night. They washed right off in the shower, but forgot to wash my bra. No new marks today though!! And I don't have tattoos. All my techs are really young, and both times have had a male. I don't even care anymore, my DH thinks it should be all females!
-
LAGATA, congrats on your first 2 treatment, just two more days this week then you get a 2 day break. we all think weekends have a new meaning since it is a little rest from zaps
i actually fell asleep during my lunch hour today, i think it made the exhaustion worse. i went over to star bucks and got a coffee. if you like the carmel coconut girl scout cookies you must get a mocha coconut frap from starbucks. YUMMY!
-
I only had one male once and he was a student --- I think he was more uncomfortable then me ...
I am grateful I had all women but then what if you were a man and had to have radiation for prostate -- they get all women techs most of the time ....
-
Thanks Mckenna!
That's funny Joanne! The guys have been very professional and today's was super nice so it definitely made it easier.
I just posted on the June thread that I was given a prescription cream for radiation dermatitis. It's Biafine. Anyone have any experience with it? I like that my team is proactive! Can't wait til I get home and see what it's like. Has to be better than Aquaphor!! -
i have a script for topicort which is a steroid. my RO said there is not a cream out there that can stop the redness. they hopefully will be able to less any blisters or open skin. for my peeling and rashy areas, i am now also using aquafor but i cover the aquafor with pads so it doesn't touch my clothes. that would gross me out!
-
Like sterile gauze pads Mckenna?
-
I finished yesterday. now I am just red at the boost site...the RO gave me radioplex, and i alternated with 100% pure aloe and only had one really bad spot and I used aquaphor. I am really fair and I didn't too bad. for the itchy times I used hydrocrtozone cream
-
I had more males than females, I thought the guys were actually a little more thoughtful than the girls... less likely to leave you laying there bare naked with the lights on high. And a couple of the guys were great about grabbing my robe and helping me on with it when we finished.
-
they are actually abdominal surgery pads
