    Hi, ATeamNana and Tenaj and to all of you weight loss warriors. I took a long walk today,carrying weights, but doing that made me hungry. Thank the Lord for gum, chewing helps me curb my appetite. I have dropped the ball with the 17 day diet, but determined to keep losing and maybe try the first cycle again. No weight loss or gain, I am staying stable, but need to step it up a bit. Hugs to you all, Kathy

    Hi Kathy, the fact you are maintaining after that long weekend of fun family/friend time is amazing. You have been doing great with all your exercising. The best part of that is how you mix up all your activities. That is the healthiest way to exercise & continue weight loss. Your body gets use to exercise. It also helps if you don't buy dark chocolate covered akai blueberries!!!! LOL......I do miss them.....

    Ooooh - Weight Loss Warriors - I like it!!! Smile

    Last week in my Optifast class, we learned about ways to determine if you are really hungry, or just needing to "fix" something.

    1. Determine: are you truly hungry? When was the last time you ate?

    2. If you just ate recently, delay eating anything for 10-20 minutes til the urge goes away.

    3. Do some deep breathing.

    4. Drink some water.

    5. Distract yourself. (Do something with your hands, like a craft)

    6. Do something different. Watch out for "paired activities" like watching a movie and eating popcorn.

    7. Distance yourself. Step away from the refrigerator!!!

    8. Decide. If you're really hungry, make the decision to eat something healthy.

    9. Don't give up! Remember, one slip doesn't mean we're failures. Have those cookies but don't eat the whole bag/plate. And tomorrow, plan to have healthier alternatives around you.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Tonight was Optifast weigh-in. Despite my couch-potato tendencies all last week, I was still down 1.4 pounds. AND - I wore a skirt that I pulled out of the Goodwill Donation box last week - I figured I might be able to fit into it again, and I was right! It had a ZIPPER!!!!
    I can't remember the last time I wore anything that didn't have an elastic waistband!!!! Undecided
    Dear Tenaj, thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words. You made me chuckle about dark chocolate covered acai bluberries. I actually bought some for my pregnant daughter-in-law's shower this Sunday. They are in my refrigerator begging me to eat them, but I have resisted so far, he,he,he!!! Thank you for helping me resist!!!! You are great!!!!!Blessings, What a great checklist, I will look at it daily, thank you for sharing. Congratulations on your continued weight loss and fitting into that skirt. You are wonderful!!!
    Well Ladies I'm back from a 2 day trip from a jazz fest. And I am really pleased that I made good choices while away and dining out, etc. now I'm back to my juicing and still maintaining on the 17 day diet. I did go back to phase one except that I'm allowing 2 pcs of whole wheat toast in the morning every 3 rd day instead of every other day. I'm also allowing small amounts of brown rice twice a week on nontoast days. I am only eating yogurt or yougurt smoothies once each day either as a meal or a snack. I have large salads for dinner with grilled chicken, fish or steak and at least 3 dinners that are no meat dinners period. I love grilled veggies and rice in the summer. Tonight it is steamed artichokes with lemon butter, brown rice and grilled halibut plus salad. When I'm home I'm juicing for breakfast every other day and eggs scrambled with greens, cheese and tomatoes on the other days. I'm going to try making Frozen yogurt this weekend with my new ice cream maker that someone gave me. I hope it works because I am a sucker for ice cream in the summer.
    What a positive thread!  I was in good shape before my PBMX and I slowly started on a recumbant bike and walking about 3 months after the surgery.  At 7 months, I started spinning again and at a year, I was right back where I was prior to surgery...except for 6 stinking pounds.  At 48, it was very difficult to lose the weight I gained during all this mess.  I know I am approaching peri-menapause (or am in it currently) which means those stupid pounds could be from that but I hated that I could not lose them.  This may sound odd but I watched a segment on Dr. Oz's show about raspberry ketones and started to take one every day since my exercise routine was 4 days a week and my eating is all natural, no preservatives and limited snacks.  I promise you, I have lost 4 of the 6 annoying pounds with 2 to go.  I can now fit in my pants again!  My sister finished her chemo and herceptin treatments and started spinning again but she, also, is having a hard time losing those excess pounds.  She purchased the magical ketones but she is awaiting clearance from her doctor since she is on herceptin for the next 5 years and wants to make sure that it's okay to use them.  We both know they are all natural but it's best to get clearance from the doctor.  I just wanted to add this just in case anyone might be interested.  Good luck with achieving your goals :)
    Welcome ArleneMarie!!!! This is a great thread and thank you for your great post. Spinning is such great exercise, when I belonged to a gym, I did it a couple of times. We have a gym where we live now, so I just do the stationary bike and elyptical. Good for you for getting rid of those stubborn pounds!!!! Tell me again what rasberry ketones are and where do you get them!!! I love Dr. Oz and I must have missed that episode!!! Please tell your sister Congratulations on finishing Chemo!! Thank you so much for joining this great thread!!!!!! Looking forward to seeing you here!!!!Smile
    Welcome ArleneMarie I love this thread. It is a great comfort to me full of positive thoughts. I keep getting emails about rasberry ketones. I wondered if they were really beneficial. I may have to check that out. Hi everyone. I'm having a hard time staying awake so heading to bed. Have a great day tomorrow everyone!!
    Raspberry ketones are known to be estroginic so check in with your Doc on whether to take them or not and what kind of dose.
    Gained a pound which I relate to stress given I just found out I have to have MOHs surgery near my nose for a Basal Cell Carcinoma yesterday afternoon. God I just don't seem to get a break. Go see the specialist next week. He or she is in for a rude awakening as I am demanding a PS to be available. Nobody is cutting into my face after the effort I just put into building new breasts which only I can see. My face, well, I'm making sure that is taken care of too. Maybe a fight with the insurance Co. Again!
    Hope you all have a good weekend. Sorry for the downer.
    Kindergarten...I am about an hour away from Torrance, east of Riverside.  My brother lives in torrance and we spend a lot of time together.  He's one of my 'rock's in my life (strength).  It's a small town, you may know him (tee hee hee). He helps maintain your Madrona Marsh. Moreno Valley is a nice place to live, but there really isn't anything to visit here.  We are on the route to Palm Springs, which is a great place to go shopping and have a great afternoon on the town.  There are also a couple of outlet malls out this way.  If you are a weekend shopper, perhaps outlet malls, consignment/resale/thift stores, or top of the line designers, Palm Springs has it all, and I love to spend the day out doing that, stop for a little lunch on the patio restaurants.  They have some great movie/Hollywood memorabilia stores, as well.
    Snobird...wishing you a successful removal and good health.  Remember, beauty is a smile! Jazzfest!!! LOVE IT.
     Blessings...you must also have Kaiser.  Optifast is a great program for kick starting weight loss.  Another tip I learned, from my options class: If you live a house with others who don't necessarily eat as healthy as you do, make a shelf in your refrigerator that is stocked with healthy quick snacks. that is YOUR shelf.  When you have that craving and you go to the kitchen, it helps to have your allowable snacks right at hand.  I actually stock that shelf with my protein servings.  When I pack my lunch / food bag for the day, I just scoop up 5-6 pre-packaged protein (allowable) items and toss them in. Then, when at work, I reach into my bag as needed and I know I can eat whatever is there.
    Arlene:  spinning, hmmm....I'm intrigued because I had knee surgery years ago and stationary bike riding was my only pt.  I have watched the spinning craze with intrigue.  I've never been much for stationary exercise, though.  I like to get out and about.  I have a very good bicycle, though.  Love what biking does for the legs and behind!
    I had my PS appt on 6/6 and scheduled my exchange for 7/23. I am very anxious to get it done. With your inspiration I have decided NOT to continue my one year hiatus. It didn't help/hurt that I weighed in at 178 !! UGH. (Hubby tries to comfort me and jokes that the extra few pounds is all that saline in my TEs...lol...he's so sweet)
    I may not stop in here every day, but I will check in at least weekly. I have set a new goal. I have 6 weeks to my exchange surgery.  I am GOING to drop 2 lbs per week and weigh in at 166 on my day of surgery.
    I cannot do your 17 day plan, I have a nutritionist who keeps me on a strict eating plan.  All I can do is recommit to more calorie burning exercise, and be sure I am sticking like glue to my eating plan.
    Good morning Ladies and Shechirple!!! What a great post. We love Torrance, just moved here last Sept. to be near our sons. We are originally from the Midwest and Pittsburgh. Let me know if you ever want to do lunch while you are here. I will be thinking of you as you approach your surgery date. You will get down to 166!!!! Today is getting ready for my second daughter-in-law's baby shower tomorrow. We have 32 ladies coming, Yikes!!!! Off to Costco for extra stuff. Cleaning, cooking and running up and down stairs will be my exercise for the weekend. When I am busy, I don't eat as much, hooray!!!! Hugs to you all and have a great weekendSmile
    SnoBird- Good Luck with taking care of your skin.  Prayers & positive vibes coming your way. My mother had that on your nose area & they did a great job.  They took a graft from behind her ear as to match the color & did a great job & it never came back. Just stay strong & persistent to get what you want.
    SheChirple- you can do it!! I have found tht even if you don't stick to the 17 day diet 100%, from what I have learned from the book was a lot of healthy ideas for meals. For me it was non-fat organic yogurt mixed with fresh fruit.  I have been eatting this twice a day(most days)  & it is a much healthier meal than I would have probaly have chosen. (Low fat & lots of protien)
    Kindergarten- Enjoy the baby shower.  You have so many nice things to look forward to. Please share... I can almot hear the ewwwwooooooing!!!
    Hi AteamNana & Blessings & everyone else.  Enjoy your weekend.
    The Beautification Committee I am on is having a Formal Colonial Tea (Fundraiser) at a National Estate (William Floyd, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence) & I have volunteered to make the Tea cookies (200 of them!!) & be a colonial waitress tomorrow. Of cousre I had to sample some of the cookies!! I had to make sure they came out OK..he-he I know this won't help the scale...oh well...Going to some garenening & then a bike ride if the rain stays away. Have a great Day Smile
    Hi ladies. I am holding steady at my 9 pound loss. I have to admit this past week has been a challenge and I have not followed the diet. I have still been making better choices and plan on getting back on track Monday. Without going into a lengthy explanation my husband and I have been staying at my sisters the past week. We came back home today. It has been hard to eat the diet plan at someone else's home. But I did convince my sister to join me on this diet. She is starting Monday. It is so good to be home!!!! Tenaj. Wish I were close enough to attend your tea. Sounds like fun. Kathy have fun at the baby shower. Snobird. Thinking of you and continued prayer:). Hi Arlene. Shechirple blessing , Marcia and Anyone else I missed. It is a beautiful evening here. I did take a quick swim:). Have a blessed Sunday everyone!
    Hi ladies....been very busy here & trying to be better than I was this weekend. Up 2 pounds :-(.......didn't stay very long at my lowest. I had lots of fun at the Tea, quite a few people were dressed up. We served 3 kinds of tea, 5 different kinds of finger sandwiches, scones with strawberry preserves, lemon curd & whipped cream , 4 different types of dessert cookies. Needless to say I tried most things. Oh well....I'll have to be better this week. That will be easier in the beginning of the week but both my kids are coming home later this week so that will be harder. I'll do my best.
    Kindergarten it sounds like you were busy with the shower. How cute was it to see all those cute baby things??? I'm going to love the shopping when it's time, I see the baby things in the store & want to buy everything I see & no one is even married yet. LOL
    CookieMonster - a little extra walking, more water & you'll get right back!!!!!
    ATeamNana- have fun on your trip!!! Enjoy.....that sounds like so much fun meeting up with your friend.
    Thinking about you Snobird, stay strong & positive!!
    Good news, I lost the 2 lbs I gained on the weekend!!! Glad it didn't stay too long....now if I can break through a new low :-)
    This is my short week of work so I look forward to being off after today.(gotta love part-time) We brought our RV to the ocean on Sunday & hope the weather holds out so we can enjoy some walks at the beach. :-)
    Bringing my yogurt with peaches, red pepper & chicken, green tea to eat throughout the day. This is really the key for me. Now when I go to McDonald's I'm just using the bathroom !!!! LOL. Always a challenge being on the road all day & drinking lots of fluids!
    Have a healthy fun day everyone!!!
    Hi folks, been busy getting my chores done for summer season and attending events to promote a Rec Trail to be built in our area. I'm on the Board of directors and we just got our intern who is with me for 3 weeks so I've been getting her going too. Lots to do. I see my Derm surgeon next week for a consult and then to schedule the surgery. I'll let you know how it goes.
    I'm holding steady no weight loss or gain. I went on a 15 mile bike ride the other day which felt great. I'm planning on buy a SUP board for the lake. Nasty day here today. Makes me want to stay in bed but I've got yoga this morning so I'm up and at em.
    Have a good day ladies.
