cmbear, I have been watching.  And like you, I love watching dance shows because I can't dance!  I'm amazed how people even have the nerve to try a back or forward flip -- with no hands!  I couldn't even do cartwheels as a kid. ;)

This season should be really good.  It seems like the level of talent and skill goes up each season.

reesie, hope you're feeling better today!

Once again I didn't get to watch the show last night as dh and I were invited to dinner at a friend's house.  I drank way too much wine - feel hungover this morning.

I thought about watching it last night but it was 1 am and I knew I couldn't make it through the entire 2 hours so hopefully dh will be up to watching it tonight.

So who did you like from last night?  Anybody in particular I should pay close attention to?

jancie, the people who stood out for me the most were three roommates, guys who did "popping and locking" (if there's another term for it, I don't know it!).  They were phenomenal!

Another cute little guy from a small town in Virginia or West Virginia who did hip hop, but in a real fresh way.

Several girls who did great contemporary routines, but I can't remember anybody's names!  The three roommates were my favorites, though.

Yell  I had my post almost all typed out and it went into lost space!

Ok, so this will be short - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the roomates that popped and locked.  Also love the country boy from Virginia that did his hip hop routine.

The one guy I thought came across insincere to me was the karate guy.  He was just being too cutesy - KWIM?

I absolutely loved the first girl with the long curly hair that came out at the beginning.  She was the first contestant of the night - got the first ticket.

There were some other outstanding contemporary standouts - can't remember their names - I do remember the chicken girl - what a hilarious story!  Chickens actually rule the town?  You are late to work waiting on a chicken to cross the street?  Seriously - sounds like my type of town.

It was definately a great show.  I am anxious to see the tryouts in Utah as dance is huge here.  This place is like old school - you grow up and you had better sing, play the piano, harp, violin, or dance.  The culture here really stresses this on the young girls.

Day five of my diep surgery. I was so excited that I would have tv to myself Wednesday, but I morphined out of half the show. I'll have to watch it at home when I get back--under a little less sedation. And not typing on my iPhone. I did want to straighten the air about the Oviedo girl and her chickens. Oviedo is a suburb of Orlando, until the last 20 years fairly rural. But I is the home of the university of cental Florida , the third largest university in the US. So not

So much rural anymore! They do have chickens in some neighborhoods--- but

We also have peacocks roaming around down here too! Nothing is normal down here in Florida!

Claire, glad you're recovering. Hope everything turns out great. Thanks for the good wishes for my back - gonna start radiation to my spine so I should be pain free in a couple of weeks.

I finally watched last weeks show - loved the wheel routine. I hope that guy practices other stuff and comes back next year.

Now I have to watch this weeks (seems like Wednesday is my bad day) lol.

Did you all watch last night?  What about the female krumper?  I thought she was great.  Also the very last contestant, the "peacemaker."  What heart!

I had mixed feelings about the last contestant. What he is doing is really good, the kids program. My DD does that too, and they do get paid for it. He was pretty amazing for such a big guy.

Yes, loved the female krumper. And so happy to finally see some ballroom. It is very big in Utah! BYU has the best ballroom dance team in the country, probably in any country.

watched last night, but thanks to my wonderful pain relievers, I had to watch it all over again this morning. The crumper girl was good--so silly when they were talking to her and then all bad-ass when she was performing. It was good to see the ballroom dancers again--although they rarely make it very far into the top 10. Notice no Tappers yet?? The praying mantis guy was just plain weird, and underneath all the goop, he was a pretty good dancer. I love all the back stories, and especially like when they bring ol' grandma or dancing dad up on the stage. They are the ones who stood by them from day 1, driving them all over the place. I also like seeing the tall half naked guy with the black goatee from last year come back. Wonder if he'll get any further this year.

Jancie, have fun down here in not so-sunny Florida. Where at are you vacationing?

Hopefully, I will be further past this surgery haze next week--on to VEGAS!!

Claire - I am staying in Destin and  also Santa Rosa Beach.  We did spend a day in Pensacola on Tuesday which was so much fun as my first cousin and his daughter are there.  They will both come to Destin tomorrow and spend a couple of days with us.

The weather is great - the beach - OMG - having way too much fun!

I was really glad to see Cyrus made it through -- I think he and his two room-mates deserve to have a permanent show in Las Vegas.

I have to admit I got kind of distracted and was only half-watching it last night.  I hate when they show people getting injured.  And they keep showing it over and over as a tease before the commercials.  Ugh.  I really could do without that.

I am frustrated from not being able to watch the show!  My FIL only has one TV with 5 working channels and we were out last night.  So now I have 3 shows to catch up on when I get home.  I saw the tail end of the show last night.  I have to say I like the last dancer which was the ballet dancer.  Dang he would get air!

I am already tired of Alexa. Lovely girl, excellent dancer, the editing is just making me sick of her. Reminds me of Ryan last year, everyone hated her by the time they got to the actual competition.

Diana, I so agree with you. She's is not that stellar of a dancer to put her thru. She shows NO emotion. If she makes it thru, I know who I won't be voting for! Enough already!

I haven't had time to watch the show from last week - Vegas Week so I don't have any favorites right now.  I am a week behind but hopefully will be able to catch up next week.  Not sure I could put my dh through watching 4 hours at a time.

Really good show tonight, don't see any weak dancers. Loved the ballet dancers, the ballroom dancers, and Cole! He's so interesting to watch. The choreographers seem to really favor Alexa, Eliana, and the ballet boys. And Mia is back! yay!

Yeah!! Mia is back!! All the choreography last night was incredible. Didn't recognize all the dancers from tryouts/Vegas so there are a few new faces(to me) but they all look like they are pretty strong and have likable personalities. It'll be interesting to see how they change up the format since there isn't going to be a Thursday show. No show next week (4th of July) will be back on the 11th.

Great show last night.  I especially loved the routines by Sonia, Travis Wall and Mia Michaels.  Now if they could get Wade Robson back I'd be in hog heaven.

The top 20 seems stronger than ever.  Sadly, I don't think Cyrus (the "animator") will go far but he's giving it his best shot.  The judges definitely -- in a couple of cases -- picked personality over talent across all styles.  That's the case with Cyrus, and they picked the little pale girl with the dark bob over the other one, even after saying she was weaker in all the other styles.  But they want to show improvement, and make it an exciting "story" over the season, so I get it.

One thing I don't get -- why would professional dancers (like the two male ballet dancers) quit their jobs to audition for this show?  Even if they win, they'll just go back to another dancing job.  But if they lose, then they've lost their jobs and the show ... Also, it kind of seems like they have an unfair advantage compared to less-trained, less-experienced dancers.

Lots of reasons for a pro dancer to go on SYTYCD. Some formers cast members are regulars on Glee, have gotten roles on Broadway, movie roles. Kathryn McCormick was on the show, then an All Star, and is now starring in Step Up Revolution. Twitch gets roles in stuff all the time. Then there are the ballroom dancers that have gone on to Dancing with the Stars, Burn the Floor etc. It's just great exposure!

Ballet dancers often mention that they are really wanting to try other dance styles and get out of the box of classical ballet.

Ok we have a list of the cast up top, not that  I know any of their names yet. EXCEPT Alexa,RRRRRGGH!!! Cyrus has the ear guages, Amelia is Frenchie, with the whitest skin; Cole is the reincarnation of Bruce Lee; Daniel is the Aussie, Chehon is the Swiss ballet guy; Witney and Lindsay are the ballroom bobsy twins--don't know which is which yet; Janelle, is the bellygirl; Will is the tall blonde kid with the jiggly chest; Matthew is Ryan Gossling wannabe, Eliana is the ballet dancer that I think can do anything; the rest haven't stood out enough for me to flag them. We'll see tonight.  Diana, I like your choices so far!

cmbear, I like your descriptions of the dancers!  So far the only name I've been able to remember is Cyrus.  Sadly, I don't think he'll last long but it's great he made it this far.

Is Eliana the one with short curly hair who has danced with all the big troupes -- Alvin Ailey, etc.?  My DH thinks she's going to win.
