Blessings, I can be walking down the street and a woman wearing a strong perfume will walk by me. First I get a blinding one-sided headache, then I can smell the perfume. I've always wanted to go back and say, What is that perfume you're wearing way too much of? Haven't had the nerve yet.

Shea butter does ROCK!

Indigo I use the Anastasia brow duo powder. You put it on with a brow brush. It's amazing. Every time I tell a MD or nurse that my eyebrows have thinned they say they look fine to them. Very natural looking. I've had my compact for almost 2 years and still haven't used it up. Worth every penny.
-
Thanks, Iago! Did you try the powder with the stencils or just "freehand" it?
I had been using Bare Escentuals powder for awhile before my dx (I love their products) but got a Brow Power pencil in my LGFB kit, and I do really like it, too. However, I've had a bit of an issue getting the shape I want entirely right, so I was tempted to try the stencils. I might just go for a lesson at a store somewhere, but was fishing for some honest feedback.
-
Indigo I never lost my eyebrows completely so there was something to follow. I'm also a designer so I have skills
No stencils for me.
-
Indigo I ordered stencils from ELF (eyes, lips, face) because they were cheap and I wanted to see if it was worth looking into further. I had never thought about going to some place like Sephora or Ulta to see if they could give some pointers! Might try that too. I will let you know when I get the stencils how they do!
-
Blessings - You gave me a good laugh. I have a co-worker whose perfume reminds me of cat pee. I'm so glad that it is expensive and she doesn't wear it too often!
-
mt4ever, thanks! ELF gets good reviews - I'll be interested to see what you think.
-
I have had the Anastasia stencils for a while. Got them at Sally Beauty store and think they were about $4-$5 and well worth it. A combo of pencil and powder worked best for me. Also an "over plucker" from long ago...

somewhere on this thread someone recomended living Proof Restore Hair Mask, available from Sephora. I am lucky because I have hair but it has always been strawlike and pretty ugly ever since before i was diagnosed with hypothyroidism many years ago. it only got worse when i started on a med that was supposed to be protective of my kidneys [ type 2 diabetes] Then more fell out from the anasthesia and the anti-hormonal meds.
The product is pricey [ $43 for one jar] but has helped alot. Do i have beautiful thick, lustrous hair now? Hardly. BUT, on a scale of 1 to 10 my hair was a 1 and is now a 2 and a half, on a good day possibly a 3, which I NEVER thought was possible. I wore and still sometimes wear wigs. They arer fun and I could never make my real hair look alright. now it is passable, which for me is heaven. I would recommend the product to anyone who has hair now and to anyone when their hair starts growing back.
also, thanks to you ladies, i am wearing make-up again, working out, eating right, and wearing cute clothes again. My skin has gotten pretty 'lizardy' but bobby surprized me by ordering a home dermabrasion kit which should get here any day. I am so excited to receive it because though i have been with bob for nearly 18 years we have never officially tied the knot and we intend to do that on august 25th.I want to look good.
I am 57 years old, 30 pounds overweight, arthrirtic, restricted by a rotator cuff injury, naturally clumsy, tired and fuzzy from the meds, oh, and did i mention i have no breasts? Just these strange looking mounds with scars all over them. BUT i am going to wear and dance in a belly dancing costume at the wedding. People will see the joy in my form and, hopefully the freshness in my skin from the machine[ though that's our little secret. let them all think it's the glow from love. and i DO love him, but, c'mon, let's get real.]
I'll let you all know how the machine works[and of course if any of you are in colorado at the time, you are invited to thewedding, clothing optional]

FYI one of the best things you can do for your skin is hydrate. People don't drink enough water. Since most of us are fighting the battle of dry skin be sure you drink plenty. I really notice the days I haven't had enough. And caffeinated, alcoholic or salty liquids don't count. They are diuretics.
Vicki your post made me smile. You sound happy. You'll eventually get those 30 off. It takes time. You need to heal and get through all this crap first.
-
Vicky! Ha, ha, that sounds awesome! I know why you say "clothing optional" - if I were to make it you'd have to forgive me for celebrating with you with my clothes on - but I am cheesing here from ear to ear! I'm imagining you dancing it up just as a gorgeous sunset slips below the mountains. And your sweetie telling us his wife is the most gorgeous woman there.
So far on A/C my skin seems to be holding up. I hope that Taxotere doesn't beat it up.
I still am a little blown away at how "elementary" my Look Good Feel Better class was. I had thought I'd learn special tricks for looking great while being beat up by chemo. Eye opener: it's a good program and the volunteers mean well, but they aren't specially trained, at least *I* don't think so, how to do makeup for that reason. What I was shown was everything I already know on how to look good. I'm a makeup girl already, and know what I like and don't like, so I factor that into consideration. But I've seen YouTube videos on the same subject that were more on point. And this forum has SO much more helpful stuff!
Oh, well. Whenever I get fixed up - i.e., wig, makeup, etc., and go out - which is usually for any trip outside the house except to Walmart - I can tell by the reactions I get that I look great and that no one who didn't already know, would know that I have no hair and am in the fight of my life. That feels like winning, doesn't it?
-
Indigo, you bet! Especially compared to Charlie Sheen!
-
go vicky go vicky.
i bet you will be beautiful on your wedding day.!!! heck i bet you are beautiful now.. we are our own worst critics. We demand one pic in August.
-
i second what apple said

I bought coconut butter, and was very surprised it had no fragrance whatsoever. It sure does moisturize...to the point where it doesn't all soak into your skin. So where does it end up? On the pillow case. That's the part I don't like about it.
I would never put it on during the day or morning because it looks like your face is greased down with 'crisco'. Any ideas?
-
artsee.. I use it very sparingly and massage it in no issues that way.. It is great on my scarline,, softens it right up
-
artsee try cocoa butter. Granted it smells like chocolate (not such a bad thing) but not bad at all. It seems to absorb into your skin faster. It also doesn't need to be kept in the fridge.
-
Vicki, you go girl!!!!
Actually ALL of you rock. and i am so inspired by all your posts.
I use the coconut oil vary sparingly and it doesn't end up anywhere. 2 drops for my whole face and neck? 1 drop for each scar.
Indigo, It sure is winning to look good during the fight of our lives.
I'll tell you, make-up is the one thing that got my mojo back. I was whining, in pain, on the sofa day 4 after my mastectomy when my sister said "get yourself up, comb your hair and put on make-up". I thought it was a bit harsh, but I *always* wear make up and I felt like ME again to at least know my smile and face were...pretty enough. I actually look forward to reading this thread here every day just to see what else I can learn.
I would love to hear about what foundations all of you use.
-
I don't wear foundation. I know shocking but when I was in my 20's and early thirties I had terrible acne. I mean I was on acutane 3X in 10 years. Lucky I only have one scar that no one notices. All I wear is a powder bronzer by Lancome and blush (as well as eye make up, concealer under the eyes and the brow powder duo by Anastasia). The bronzer will last at least a year.
-
I like the Bare Escentuals foundation. I started using it two or three years ago. I have combination skin and my dry spots really get dry, but this foundation covers my redness without looking cakey or like too much makeup. I also don't need a finishing powder with the foundation, although BE makes one that seems very popular.
Liquid foundations get greasy on my oily spots and for me, don't wear as long. -
Thanks all for the hints on the coconut butter. I'll use lots less......and I'll try putting it on the scar too.
I use Mary K foundation and I also use Lancome, "Renergie Lift " foundation. I love them both and would not go out without it.
-
You definately don't need much of the coconut oil. I put a small pea size in my palm then rub together. It melts into my hands and then I rub my hands over face and neck.
-
so i ordered a wig and it is much blonder than i had hoped. I am experimenting with dyeing it with a toothbrush and temporary hair color.. Actually it is looking awesome. you can't feel it or rinse it off.. it doesn't come off with paper towels.
I'll see how it does today and make it even browner this afternoon.
I feel like the bombshell Marilyn.
-
Apple, You do make me smile. I think you should go with the Marilyn look! You could pull it off and have fun with it.
But aside from that, coloring it is a wonderful idea, and I think in the end it will look more "Apple" than it would coming right out of a box. You rock, you sure do!
-
Apple I assume this is a natural hair wig. The synthetic hair wigs typically won't be able to be dyed.
-
I have been "painting" my nails for a few weeks and trying various nail polishes. Maybe there is some kind of trick, but by day 2, they all flake. If anyone has some magic formula, Please pass it on. I am retired, live in an apartment, and aside from computer typing, do nothing much with my hands - and I wear gloves to wash dishes and clean.
-
GramE- I have always had that issue. Can't wait to hear what might help. I've Had acrylic nais in the past and polish will stay on for weeks. But my natural nails? Just a couple days. I've been told its due to oils and I use to have very oily skin so who knows.
-
everyone on the net says you cannot dye synthetic hair (which this is).. so we'll just see. I could buy 2 wigs for the price.
-
Can't wait to see your new avatar with the new wig. I'll bet that style looks fantastic on you, apple.
