I can't use coconut oil as makeup remover, as I get the same filmy effect on my eyes. It irritates them and makes them puffy as well. I use Almay Oil Free Makeup Remover pads. I have not checked the ingredients in them, but they sure do the trick well, and they travel very easily.

Apple I have no problems with the Anastacia brow duo staying on unless I rub it or touch it. I wear no make up to go to the gym except I do put my eyebrows on… and I sweat in the gym. Not sure if it would stay on if I was swimming though. It will come off for sure if I touch it.

Thanks for the info on MAC now being tested on animals for their Chinese clients. I wear their mascara and mineral powder. I've pretty much strayed away from MAC because of the parabens. I'm looking at getting new mascara. I will try the Lush Lash by Urban Decay. I wear a lot of Inglot cosmetics. They are similar to MAC, but the pigments are better and it's less expensive (MAC keeps raising their prices). Plus, I've researched Inglot and it appears they do no test on animals or have parabens in the products I've purchased. Their mineral makeup doesn't look right on me. I use a light moisturizer with sunscreen (Alba) and dust the powder over my face. I don't wear foundation anymore. It would coaggulate on my skin and would look uneven. Maybe I'll look at Urban Decay or another product for mineral powder. I don't like how Bare Minerals looks on my skin. It emphasizes my wrinkles. I don't need that!!!

I just purchased this mineral foundation, so I can't say exactly how well it works, but it is talc free, contains no parabens and the company Does not test on animals.

And here is a link to the company website. I will keep you posted on how well it works!

Well, no more coconut oil on my face. I never had whiteheads in my life, but since using the coconut oil, I do now!
Guess it's back to my hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic light lotion.....
-
Blessings- i got white heads from the coconut oil too! I now just use it on my body.
-
Well, DANG, onvacation.... guess it wasn't the wonder moisturizer we hoped it would be!
-
I know - i was dissapointed!
-
Onvacation - I also had problems initially with the coconut oil but within a month the white heads stopped and I have used it everyday on my body as well as my face (for over two years now)......and I don't just mean a little dab. As a teen and young adult I had acne and thought I would not be able to tolerate the oil however it works wonders for my skin. I am 71 and have been mistaken, more than several times, as the mother of my grandchildren. This is just my experience but maybe this information will be of interest to you. Good luck in finding something that works for you. Barbara
-
gentianviolet - good to know.....that's the result I was hoping for!
onvacation - you go first!
Keep trying it and let me know if the whiteheads go away, then I'll give it a go!!!!
lol!

I'll confess that I never tried the coconut oil on my face because I was worried about breaking out. So many moisturizers make my face break out. I used to have bad acne (accutane 3 times!) although you'd never know since I now have really nice skin. Somehow I only managed to get one small scar that on one can even notice.
-
Blessing, think I will pass! I do like it as a moisturizer though!
-
Hi, I know that everyone loves the coconut oil, but I swear by good old Ponds for my face. I also love Oil of Oley, the old pink stuff in a bottle, not all the new wrinkle and regenerating stuff. There's a reason these products have been around for so long, they work. And Johnson's baby lotion for my body is must for me. Have been using it for over 30 years.
-
I do fine with the coconut oil. As far as other products are concerned, I am looking to avoid petroleum as an ingredient, as well as words I cannot even say. I was pretty horrified this past weekend when I learned my (adult) son starts fire-pit fires with petroleum jelly! he says it works wonderful to burn, so how good can that be on our skin?
Yet my dermatologist has said for years to just use Vaseline. Well, no thanks.
My only 2 things left to conquer are skin spots (dark spots or red spots) and getting these eyebrows on right. sigh. All of the pencils seem to disappear half way through the day.
And hair, ever since cancer, I cannot tolerate dye. My scalp turns into a poison ivy-like mess. I have done it myself, went to a salon, and now did the semi permanent stuff and same reaction with each. Any ideas?
-
oh i love Ponds.. it smells sooooooo good. I am amazed that a 8 oz. jar costs 8 dollars tho.... I used to buy it for $1.69.
-
Crystalphm- This is just a thought, not from personal experience...I wonder whether Aveda products would be gentler or maybe a health food or beauty store has gentler products.
-
My problem with all cosmetics is the perfume. I buy unscented everything, but it's really hard to find good stuff. All baby products seem to have perfume. I bought an unscented shower lotion; listed on the ingredients is fragrance. My niece bought me a jar of wonderful lotion/creme that smells like creme brulee. Nice, but not what I want to smell like all day and it can't be near my face. It's sad, because it's full of organic oils.
-
Wren I try not to buy scented stuff because many scents give me a headache but it is hard to find stuff with no scent. It's part of the reason why I do use a lot of nuetragena products.
I wonder if anyone has tried the Eucerin products for the face? I'm not sure if all their products are fragrance free.
-
I was looking at pics from just before chemo and I had eyebrows and it seems mine are going away!!!
-
I am going to a Look Good, Feel Better class tomorrow, so I am excited at the idea of learning some new stuff. Even though I don't use a lot of make-up, I do know about it. My daughter is such a girly-girl and I am not. Have been in the past and will probably become a bit more during the no-hair phase coming up.
-
Vivkilind61 I highly recommend you bring your own make up too. I did that and the gal showed me how to apply some of it .
-
I try to get unscented everything as well. I used to be a perfume junkie, but I now get headaches from most fragrances. Do you think this is a cancer related thing, or just getting older? I had to give away most of my perfumes, as they all made me have an instant headache after using them. I've found one by LaVanila that seems to be working for me, but I have to be very careful to only use it on my clothing, very, very lightly.

This is the brand that I use. LaVanila. I use the Passionfruit one, and it smells really nice. I wear it as a work/daytime/nightime fragrance. It's light and unobtrusive.
-
I doubt it's cancer related. Granted I was craving mushrooms the other night. Wondered if it was cancer related. I read somewhere that button mushrooms might prevent breast cancer because it works like an aromatase inhibitor. I did make something with mushrooms. Maybe that's why I had a few warm flashes that I don't normally have.
-
Iago, that's so interesting. A friend just showed my an article that says shitake mushrooms help women feel less naseous during chemo.
-
I'm sure there are a lot of natural things out there that help. This is why they tell us to eat leafy green vegetables and other vegetables with variations in color. If you eat healthy/properly and exercise you will be getting all this good stuff and not even know it. I'm sure even those folks who study this don't know half the benefits of eating right. My PS is all about the berries (blue, black, straw) for antioxidants.
Still don't know if it's true about the button mushrooms but I do believe they were studing it.
Ginger is also good for settling the stomach.
-
I used to use Ponds, but read it has parabens. I used coconut oil all over, it's ok, but not as nice as organic Shea butter. Love it!
-
Stage1, I too am trying to avoid all parabens, and that seems to be tricky. I use alot of body lotion, and while I have found some that have no parabens, they do have ingredients I cannot pronounce...
The shea butter bothers me for some reason, I get itchy, and LOL with the coconut oil I worry I will eventually make an oil imprint on my sofa...so I have a throw over my sofa.
I am concerned the Eucerin has parrifin in it, isn't that a petro chemical? I don't carry anything in life to the extreme, but like I said, i use "alot" of skin lotions....

MariannaHB - I don't think being sensitive to fragrance is just a cancer thing.
I have pretty severe asthma, and some perfumes and scented products literally make my throat close up.
There are some ladies at church who marinate in the strongest perfumes I've ever smelled. They might as well be wearing cat pee, it's so strong.
My Bible Study sisters all knew not to wear any kind of scents around me (large group, small room), and others were bothered by them, too. We declared it a Scent-Free Zone.
But occasionally one woman would sit next to me and say "Oh, I only used a little bit today." I told her that would be like saying to her about her son - who was horribly allergic to chocolate - "Oh, I only gave him a little bit!" DUH!!!
One of the sweetest, nicest ladies never wore her perfume on Wednesday mornings in deference to my asthma. But it was in her skin, her hair, her clothes....and when she would hug me, I'd have to go right home and take a shower and wash my hair to get the smell off me. Better to just back away and lie and say "I think I'm coming down with something...."
-
Hi ladies! I was wondering if any of you has tried the Anastasia brow stencils, and were they worth the price and easy to use? I haven't lost all my brows - but understand that might happen on taxotere. And they are pretty skimpy anyway because of overtweezing many moons ago, so I've been experimenting with different ways to fill them in.
