Yes, scars change over time.  My radiated side changed quite a bit.  Before my reconstruction, I did notice it getting "thicker" then when I started jogging it seemed to get better...I think from the repetative arm movement.

Bugs, how long did you wait for reconstruction?  My team is recommending no sooner than 6 months after radiation.

Is it like keloidal tissue?  Some people just get that.  About 50% of my mastectomy scar is "thick" and the other 50% is "thin" - if that makes any sense.  I'd say that it feels like a piece of twine right in that scar - for around 10 or 12 cm on each side.  And the keloid part is dark pink and a little bit shiny.  The rest feels much more supple.  The twine has been softening up over the last month or so.  I put oil on the scar after every shower.  Based on images I have seen - I'd say I have fairly minor keloids, and I'm told that my scars look quite good.

Does htat help at all?  I don't know.  It was the first thing that came to my mind when I read your post.

    Good luck.

Elizabeth,  I waited 3 years..only because I wasn't sure at first if I wanted reconstruction and I wanted a break from dr's, surgeries...you know the drill.  My dr's also recommended at least 6 months post radiation.
