What are you doing for fun??

No big 'see the world' holiday plans; my pleasures are the ones I've always had - quilting, embroidery, reading, eating with friends, going to concerts, walking in peaceful places with our border terrier, and having visits from my daughters in England, with whom I am very close and we laugh a lot together.  I am sad that I can't play badminton or tennis anymore but am very grateful that we live right on the River Rhine and I have a National Park three minutes' walk away and lovely riverside restaurants we can go to.  I have a couple of friends who regularly pop in just for an hour's coffee/sandwich break between their free lance jobs and that has been a huge support when I was feeling ill because it was limited in time but I didn't have to make the effort and they always bring me interesting news.  My international quilting group (usually between 4 and 10 people at each weekly meeting) continues to be noisy, inspiring and lots of fun - staunch friends made through our hobby - all our problems, both personal, family and health, all somehow get dealt with through our conversation which comes in a wild mixture of English, German and sometimes French...

Jumping in here without reading the whole thread - oh well - because we are headed out tomorrow on a cruise to Bermuda.  First one for the both of us.  After living on an island for 5 years or so and doing all that "time" on the ferry, I never thought we would go on a cruise.  I do hate to play tourist, I suppose it's because they invade every year and it is so nice to see them leave.

So glad we got here with all systems go!  Hoping for good weather but if the seas are rough, I will have an excuse for looking so clumsey (drunk)  I know there will be a lot of shopping (ugh) to do and well, gotta go.  Take care all.  Whoo hoo.

Holdontohope, I've asked my oncologist several times, he says it's OK. I've got mets in most of my vertebre, my pelvis, and both femurs - so far nothing has fallen off.

Ok Susan. My DH is plannibg on flying again this summer and maybe we can fly up the coast to MA again (we did it in 2001) . If we do you're on!

I'm getting ready to go to California to visit my daughter and grandaughter.  Next weekend!  Can't wait.  They live near the ocean, we're going south to Coronado Beach.  Should be so much fun.

I scheduled the trip about a month ago, didn't think about it much until today.  Now, I am getting excited.

Felt a need to post some happy things.  I just released a dozen tadpoles into my frog pond.  Someone gave me a pond shell and I built a little fence around it with landscape timber.  its crude, but cute!  So, today, I went to pick up the tadpoles from a hatchery near here and found out that an old friend had already paid for them.  Made me cry!   I can afford a dozen tadpoles, but the nice gesture touched my heart.

I love this thread-it is one of my favorites. I do not get to go out and do anything and love reading what everyone is doing. It inspires and gives me hope. Are people doing fun things for the Memorial day weekend?

Well after my crappy brain news this week, I'm starting to feel a bit better emotionally although the dreaded stroids and Xeloda are starting to kick in.

After a bit or nudging with my insurers, we should be getting a cheque in the next few days to pay off the mortgage and the credit cards so big cancer silver-lining there!

Planning to fit a new wood burning stove in the next few weeks (we have an old 1800's cottage) then we can decorate the lounge and get rid of all the blackness on the ceiling from burning coal through the winter. I have a plasterer coming to quote me to sort out my daughters room so we can decorate there and also to fix the roof in the lounge where the dog fell through (don't ask!)

My husband called this morning from work to ask what did I think about getting one of those mini-Eriba caravans so we can tour around Europe a bit in the summer if I'm up to it, so that's a bit exciting. We usually camp and have a huge tent but it can be such a fag to put up. With the caravan we could just go with that and a pop up tent for the kids.

Funny story from last night. My daughter Marsaili who is 12 has really long hair. She called me from her mobile and said, "Um. mum, can you come upstairs, I'm a bit stuck" At first I thought it was her dodgy door which jams sometimes and needs a bit of a push (another to add to the list of jobs). But no, the door was open but she was sitting upright with her head at a funny angle pressed against the back of her day-bed. "Um, I've tied my hair to the bed and now I'm stuck" It was so funny and I couldn't do anything for laughing.

Coming up on my 1 year anniversary so thought I'd change my avatar to how I looked this time last year - wow - what a difference a year makes...

Enjoy the change in scenery, climate, and just relax........ !! Ahhhh......

Laurie, the caravan idea sounds fantastic. And popping up a tent for the kids even better. Way to get some privacy! Now you've given me something to think about.

Whenever I can escape we head to Cromer in Norfolk. Sea air always has me snoozing but it is so nice to have a change of scenery. We got there a week ago for a few days and hope to escape at the end of June

I had the most beautiful day with my family yesterday, tried to insert the picture of my frog pond, but I am not having much luck.  Anyone know how to insert and image here?
