    Hi all!
    My name is Larry and my wife Kathy was dx with DCIS in Sept of 97. She had right breast removed and tram flap done. Fast forward to Jan. 03 and Kahty was dx with mets to all of her bones. SHe did lots of chemo (Taxotere, Xeloda, Taxol, Carboplatin, Abraxane) plus lots of other meds (Arimidex, Faslodex, Zometa, Gemzar, Avastin, Nuelasta).
    Anyway.........there wasn't a treatment, onc. visit, ER trip, hospital stay that we did not do together. Kathy developed lung and liver mets in Nov. 04. I have a lot of experiences that I know all of you are going through too. I would be happy to share any and all knowledge with you. I'm a good listener too if that is what you need. Plus.......all of you could help me too. Kathy lost her fight with BC on December 16, 2005 at 9:40am. Things are better but sometimes I could use a little help too. I am sure we will be getting to know each other a lot over the coming months. Hang in there guys. Talk to you soon.

    So sorry you had to join this group after losing Kathy! The more the merrier here, we support any and all and expect it back! You know the drill, good days and bad ones come along. We all want to have great days, but bc reality kicks in!

    Kathy must have been a very special lady, I hope we can help you!

    KAthy was the Stongest and bravest person I ever knew. She was my best friend when we married 21years ago and she still was up to the very end

    Hey Everybody: Great to see everybody's posts! Cowgirls, if those goats aren't the cutest lil things...

    Larry: Welcome to our thread. Sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved wife; my deepest sympathies. Here you'll find a supportive group and I'm sure your experiences will be beneficial to others, as well.

    DD and I tried to get a jump-start on the gardening today, until the rain/thunder/lightning rolled in, that is. At least we determined where the flowers/raspberry bush/tomatoes/peas will be going! And, in spite of my "brown" thumb, we might even grow something!

    That is a wonderful eulogy for Kathy. I think all of us, in our lives, want to have someone who can say just that about us. It's a tribute to Kathy, and to you, that you can.

    And Welcome to our odd little family, lol This was the guy thread and Greg invited us all in. There are family members
    ( I am one, sister Dx IDC 6/13/05) and survivors and BC hubbies. A nice combination of all.
    So glad you decided to join in, many times family will post on this board looking for help and support and I am sure they can use all the support info we can provide.

    I am so sorry for the loss of your Kathy my deepest sympathies. It is a very hard thing to lose someone you love to this beast. We are looking forward to getting to know you!

    Greg you must take pics of your garden now and as it grows. Send them to me and I will post them. I am an gardner and a Master gardner I want to watch it grow, and I might be able to give some advice here and there. But mostly I think it will be neat to watch the progress over the summer.

    Alex, that is good news indeed for er/pr neg. BC
    I am praying for the day to come when treatment will be
    totally effective for everyone ! And yes , I am so thankful that my lump turned out not to be cancer, but it still is a concern. I have read so many post of ladies that lived healthy life styles and did all the right things and still developed BC so I am not sure that anything I can do will avoid it , but I am going to try. I feel there are so many factors that play into it, that it would be impossible too, so I will shoot for the obvious things I can change.

    I have some good news I am going to a job interview Monday

    (it is a call back) with 4 paws for ability I will be working with animals again woo-hoo ! They train Dogs for service for disabled adults and children. Once apon a time in my life I was an all breed animal groomer and showed Afghan hounds in confirmation and also did grooming for the local animal shelter in Columbus and Lancater.

    Denise gets her test results from her CT scan Monday fingers crossed!

    Hey, everybody: Larry, forgive me for prying, but you didn't mention if you had kids, and if so, how they're delaing with the loss.

    Carrie: Good luck with the job interview; it sounds right up your alley. And, if you promise not to laugh, I'll try to send you pics of the garden as it grows. DD and I spent several hours gardening yesterday: her, weeding/planting wildflowers, and me uprooting shrubs. Boy, was that a good workout!

    I'm the heck well. How are you?

    Yah, I'm a dog person. Plus, I tend to think wouldn't it be nice to do something good for people -- like train shepherds to work with disabled adults and children.

    Sorry to hear about your scare. It's such a terrible disease. My father is just starting treatment for prostate cancer: 7 weeks of radiation for starters. It never ends. So much cancer.

    I'm doing the Denver Livestrong Ride in support of cancer research and survivorship on August 21st. I still miss Maureen of course. Life goes on.

    I'm doing a 1/2 Ironman May 21st, and the big one is not until November 4th... so I'm still swimming, riding and running -- keeps me out of trouble.

    Live strong, Bolder.


    Okay my first day good news first, This place takes such good care of their animals, their living spaces are kept cleaner than mine!
    Bad news they use bleach on everything the kennels the dishes the dog runs the floors walls everything and it absolutly kills my asthma I thought I was going to have the heeny of all asthma attacks , but I finished out the day and did'nt let them pay me as I felt so bad , not being able to take the job. I groomed the cutest little long haired dog today and he got adopted they have the most beautiful sheppards and labs and one greatdane .
    I am so disapointed as I would love to have continued, they asked me to come back anytime I want and walk and socialize animals put a vest on them and take them in the stores and such . Dang I am so disapointed!

    Okay this bites big time!!
    Denise does'nt have her scan results back yet so she called the office again today and of course the scans are'nt back and her Doctor is on vacation untill next Tues.
    Grrrrrr!!

    Two kids. Melissa is 19 and finishing up her freshmen year at the U of Findlay in Ohio.(Pre-vet) She seems to be doing ok but I think that is just a front. She spent the 3yrs that Kathy had advanced cancer denying the fact that her mother was very sick. That is a subject that needs a lot more time and space than we have here. I think she is going to be fine. We talk a lot and my daughters progress is coming slowly but surely.
    Then there is my son, 15 and a freshmen at Omaha Northwest. He is truly a remarkable young man. When I had to be away at work, my son stayed home and took care of EVERYTHING. He took very good care of his mother. SO far he is doing very well. He misses his mom terribly but is getting on with the buisiness of living. Kathy insisted on that. SHe told PAul tha she would come back and kick his butt if he sat around and felt sorry for himself. Paul and I watch each other and we guys seem to be keeping the ship afloat. My son is 6'5" and a very good baasketball player and a budding track star(400Meters, Triple, long and High Jump). He is in charge of laundry and keeping the basement clean. You should have heard the eulogy that Paul gave about his mom. Everyone had tears in their eyes. Paul has a quality about him. He has more maturity at 15 that most adults I know. Kathy and he were very close. She would be very proud of him. I AM PROUD OF MY SON!
    Anyway, that is a very brief description of the kids and I. I amm sure more will come out over the next few posts. SO far, so good.

    Thankyou for sharing about your kids Paul and Melissa.

    I am from Ohio. Findlay is about 80 mi north of me.

    A vet that is a tough degree and you have to attend school as long as you would to become a doctor.

    How hard to be a teenage girl and to lose her Mother during those most difficult teen years when you need her most so hard for her, that she denied.

    Your son sounds wise beyond his years and it sounds like he was able to connect with his feelings about losing Kathy.

    There is something about caregiving that I think helps us do that, and when we are feeling the lose the most, we can fall back on some of those bitter sweet moments.

    How proud you must be.



    Has Melissa ever written a letter to her mother, just poured it all out, the hurt the anger the greif. and then burn it.

    Then when she is ready write a letter about the love the closeness all that Kathy means to her and tie it to a balloon and release it. Maybe pick out an item that reminds

    her most of her mother, something that symbolizes the happy feelings.

    When ever I see yellow roses it makes me think of my grandma (she raised me) it is my symbol of her and reminds me of her unconditonal love.

    For my daughter Mandy who died when she was 10 days old, my husband bought me a small statue of a woman craddling her child in her arms when I was carrying her.

    For my son James who was still born it is a bumble bee .

    I now have 2 adopted children and 2 step children and grandchildren. Let me tell you youngsters grandbabies are the best!! Once I got mine raised and out I never thought I would feel that kind of love for a child again, but oh my gosh it's even better! You don't have to do the hard stuff, just play with them and have fun and love them, and watch them do all those things your kids did to make you crazy,to their parents hee-hee!

    I am not sure how the dogs would respond to a mask,

    I am sure they would become acustomed to it? Does the mask restrict your breathing at all like a dust mask?

    It is an good ideal!

    Hi Carrie, sorry that I've been missing. Discovered the joys of msn so I haven't been in here so much. Can't believe that Denise didn't get her results yet. Makes you want to go and find that doctor on his holiday and drag him back. Sorry about the job Carrie - maybe a mask would work.
    Larry, nice to meet you - sorry about the circumstances that brings you here. They are a very nice bunch of people here and very supportive.
    Cowgirl, we need goat stories lol. Surely he's found out everything about dinos now lol.

    The pic you posted is that mountains in the background?
    What a beautiful place you live. And the tile roofs and is it stucco on the houses? We don't have too much of that in Ohio! Breathtaking, If you don't mind will you some time post pics of your beautiful country side so I can have a glimps of Greece , I have never been outside of my country and I would so much like to see a little of your home? My friend was in Greece on buisness and said it was beautiful.

    The trees look like palms and pines (sorry I am a gardener so that is very interesting to me) and the white flowers look like tiny white daisy?
    And of course your cats are lovely as always I love animals.

    I meant to tell you at 4paws they have cats that have the run of the kennels they have a very large climbing post with hiding places and hammocks and kitty beds tucked under the workers desks and on the work stations and kitty perches on some of the windows . The cats could give a hoot about the dogs nor the dogs them. Because these animals are trained to be service dogs they must not ever chase or bother other animals, it is amazing to see huge
    Shepherds let the cats aproach them and although they may give them a sniff or lick, pay them no never mind.

    I did see a puppy get over excited with one cat they call Momma cat and she gave him a good swat!lol

    Let's see there is a goat we call Hercules, and we have so many now that we don't even have them all named, we were using their tag numbers from the auction. We have two sets of brothers Gus and Big Boy, then I think 196 and 194. One of them is called folder because he has a folded ear, and we are out of creativity! Frito is still our funny goat, yet I am unsure if he is aware he is a goat. They wag their tails when they see our van drive up. Thursday night we had horrific storms, there was a river through the barn. They all survived but they were looking at me like "Where have you been, we have been swimming here!" Hercules is called that because he is built like a steroid goat, since steriods are expensive. I think he is just a muscle goat! His coat is very silky smooth, he has friend goat that he protects. Anyway right now we feed and water, medicate and let them go. They all are scared of me right now, I gave them a shot this week. I am the symbol for pain and food, so most of the time they still run from me. We have eight goats, that need to be banded and 4 that need to be dehorned. After that they will hate DH!

    What a great idea. My daughter will be home in a couple of weeks. She will be home for the summer. I will get her to do just what you suggested. It will help her a lot even though she will not think so. Talk to all of you soon.
    My son and I are going for a walk then a work out at the high school track. My next big decision is...................What's for dinner?
