BC vaccine...there is hope!

Just heard this on the news and I thought I'd post in case anyone hadn't heard or maybe has more info on the subject. MD Anderson has been running trials on a vaccine and it's showing promise....43% reduction in reoccurence rates! It's called AE37 (I think) so you will need to do your own Google search...I haven't got a link yet, sorry. I'm so excited and it gives me so much hope for our future.

A breast cancer vaccine already shown to elicit a powerful immune response in women with varying levels of HER2expression has the ability to improve recurrence rates and is well tolerated in an adjuvant setting, according to new research from a clinical trial led by researchers at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.The findings, released today, will be presented on Monday, June 4 in an oral presentation at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). It builds on previous research showing the vaccine, known as AE37, to safely and effectively raise immunity against human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) – an oncoprotein that promotes tumor growth and is expressed to some extent in 75-80% of breast cancer tumors.

The researchers found that patients who received the vaccination had an estimated recurrence rate of 10.3% compared to 18% in the control group at a median follow up of 22 months...."

www.clinicaltrails.gov I was on a vaccine and this is where they are all listed. The one I was on was also at MD Anderson, however Maryland is much closer for me.

Phase II is a long time to get to the public. First they have to do a phase III, which will take years to complete enrollment and years to do the study. Some studies are free or even re-imberse some travel, check to see what you can get in around where you live.

I am HER+, with you being a III, John Hopkins has one. The ones for stage III are usually phase III trails, which is better then phase II. Some trails it doesn't matter. The vaccine I as on was for CEA secreting tumors. Brose the above web site and see. Personally I think the cure is in the vaccines.
