San, I totally agree with Joanne- We need to learn to say "no"- and stop feeling guilty about it! We are new women, with new agendas. LIFE is our agenda.. not meetings and stress.. the simple joy of watching birds flit back and forth from feeder to feeder is my new joy.. life is around us, slow down and enjoy!
Friday will not come soon enough, my skin is looking better and the pain is subsiding except for under the breast. I feel like I have a papercut.. ohh and when I put lotion on it.. youch. My R onco was thrilled with how my skin is looking. Hell it should with all the potions she gave me to apply. After today---just two more!!
-
Yeah Lory --- 2 more .... and you will be free for the weekend !!!! This is our holiday week-end in Canada -- Queen Victoria Day on the Monday -- always good to have an excuse so you can celebrate with us now !!!
-
San ~ Thinking of you today...sorry you have to make that drive. You know we are all here for you and hoping your emotional healing starts and you feel better soon.
Lory ~ I know what that lotion feels like on the skin at times. Hurts like hell! And, if I "scrub" too hard in the shower, it's even more not fun. So glad you are so close to the end.
Congrats to all those who are finished or nearly there. Unfortunately, the machine for my treatment is still down so I am 2 days behind already You guys know how it is when all you want is to make it to the finish line.

I have 20 of 33 radiations to go and my skin is sOOOOO itchy. Aloe plant, Aquafir not working. Got Solar Recover spray, which feels good, but still very itchy, red and irritated.
Help.
-
I have two more to go...
Tomorrow (thursday) is a national holiday here in Austria, so nothing, then friday rad, and then weekend off. Then 21.5. Monday-Is-My-Last-Day!!! :-)
(But... internal brachytherapy on 31.5. ... :-(
My skin is ok, I started 13.April, but I must say - no problems with skin at all , and I do burn in the sun - not that easily but still.
Now I use only baby powder - as suggested by radiologist from day one. Seems to work ok for me.
-
Ohh Linny, I just run cool water over my breast- no soap, no rubbing, just water. 2 more and DONE..
-
Z girl, get some cortizone 10 gel.. I was told by my RO to get some when the itching started. I was also given cold gelpacks- they cooled the itch as well.
-
Congrats to everyone who's finished up! I did my last regular tx today. 5 boosts to go. On day 6 I have an appt. with the MO where we will, no doubt talk about tamoxifen, and I will see the PT about my LE. The 7th day, next Friday, I have NO drs appts. I don't know if I can stand it. I probably should see if I can get in to see my GP or the dermatologist or maybe I should ...
As for 11 hour days. Yawn. Makes me tired just to think about it. My nephews graduated from high school on Sunday. They are about 6 hrs from here. Just couldn't face the thought of driving over on Sunday and coming back Monday...
-
Mitchbunny, i think i may have cried almost everyday since dx. Or just seems like it. Havnt cried since tuesday am. Think i have a record here
We used to use kashi go lean chocolate protein drink. It was tasty, low carb, but i am not sure what type of protein it is. I think soy protein powders have something bad for us. Some of the protein drinks taste nasty
I got a vitamixer during chemo and have been grinding smoothies. It was pricey, but so worth it
Congradulations on everyone finishing up. My sunburn gone. -
Thank you, Lori
The nurse suggested the same. Trying it this evening. Still itchy, but I hope it feels better soon.
-
OMG I am only 8 days down congrats for all of you that are finished or just about to.I can't even imagine being at that point this feels like it's going to take forever to finish. one way trip is 78 miles to rad luckily American cancer society picks all of the cancer patients from the hospital and takes us the rest of the way to rads. Getting to know new people in the van that takes us we are forever bonded now we all talked about that the other day new friends :}
-
Oh My- Holy healing- the RO did say it will get worse as the healing moves on. Under my breast is soo raw and painful today. It look like road rash. Ladicaine (sp) is my friend
-
Lory, that is what I am like -- raw and it hurts -- I am using polysporin and putting a cloth under so that I am not skin on skin -- do you think that the Lidocaine works? If so then I am going to buy some. It really is rather "ugly" looking.
-
Joanne, the ladocaine I am using I received from my RO. It numbs the pain enough so I can cover it with the baby cloth. I was also given that moleskin type stuff, and spread some on that, then place it under my breast. I was off the pain pills for a bit, now am back on them as the pain is unbearable- you know the bad sunburn pain. Now I understand why they induce comas in burn victims.
-
I have an odd question.. for those of you that had chem, have any of you colored your hair when it grew back in? At what point did you do it?
-
Gah Lory! I'm sorry to hear you feeling so sore. I'm sitting here trying to decide if I should go home and spend the afternoon naked... 5 boosts to go!
-
That is me.. laying on the bed slathered in creme. 2 more
-
Lory and Cindy - so sorry you are suffering.... Sending good thoughts for quick healing!
I colored my hair for the first time at the 18 week mark, when I finally decided to ditch the wig. I used the kind that lasts 4 weeks, because I'm a natural redhead, and have never found a DIY color that looked natural enough to suit me. I can't justify the expense of having it done professionally until I have more hair, maybe in a month or so (I hope).
-
Lory48 and Joanne_53,
Sorry to hear that you are having issues with your skin. I hope things improve for all who are having treatment.
I have been finished for approx. 2 weeks now and my skin is only just starting to improve. I have been going in to have dressings placed on my wounds and am starting to see some healing take place. My nipple is not as sore and under the breast is not as raw any more.
Wishing you all well!
-
Zgirl,
I started feeling itchy and red-rashy bumpy too, and the ladies here said to use some OTC cortizone anti-itch cream. It worked!
I have 8 to go. Congrats to all of you who are finishing!

Cindy & Lory ~ Hoping that your "lounging topless" helps. I did it the other night and it felt good. My DH says I need some rigging to hold up the breast. What a visual, huh? LOL! During the day I am putting a 100% cotton handkerchief under my breast to keep the moisture away. My RO said not to put anything under that area for a few days so it will stay dry and may help to keep the skin from breaking open. It sure the heck is red and angry and sore. Lory ~ I know what you mean about burn victims. I can't even imagine what those poor people endure if this radiation stuff bothers us so much. It has to be unbelievably painful. Also, wanted to tell you that my hair stylist said that coloring the short hair helps it look thicker. As soon as I have more than fuzz I will go see her.
Mamglam ~ Glad you are finished and thanks for the estimate on when to expect the skin to improve. I have 7 more treatments and 5 boosts. Finished # 21 of 33 total today. I was so very glad the machine was back up and working. Hated to wait 2 days and have the finish line pushed out.
-
Toaday was my LAST rads!!! I am so happy that the days are mine again and I can stop thinking about BC everyday! Brought my fantastic techs and nurses goodies bags. They were so touched. Made me glad I did it since they made the last 7 weeks bearable. Congrats to all that are nearing the finish line.
Lory and Cindy- hope your skin feels better soon. Mine was terrible also but is doing much better. Hang in there, this to shall pass.
-
Yay bethm!!! So glad it's done! But oddly, I'm gonna miss going in every day. They've been my safety net, cheering section... whatever. As much as I want to get back to a normal life, I'm afraid it's going to be a while before I'm comfortable on my own.
-
bethm - congrats on finishing rads -- I know what you mean about them making it bearable -- I had the best group too and if not for them I am not sure I could have faced it with a smile everyday!!!
Cindyl - I have been finished since Tuesday so 2 days out and yes I miss them ... lol .... who would have thought -- and yes they have been the crutch but now going forward and looking forward to moving to the next step -- my next medical appointment related to BC is in July -- can you imagine --- I am so happy that I am not living each day by a calendar ....
Mamglam - glad to hear things are getting better for you -- that is tough having to go to the wound clinic but at least it is being treated.
-
Congradulations Bethm!
Lori & Joanne hope the torture is over soon.
I havnt cried since tuesday am! Depression seems to be lifting. Energy increasing. Giving my work 2 weeks notice tomorrow. Have never written a leyter resignation. I need to have some fun and live a little. Am making travel plans.
Saw my hairstylist today.(pedicare) .I think I am 11 weeks post chemo. She wants to wait on coloring. But to come back in 2 weeks and she will shape it up. My hair is longest on top. It is silvery grey. Looks nice they say, but feel I am too young for grey (45) -
Congratulations, bethm!
-
Thank you everyone! I will still check in to see how everyone is doing
-
Congrats Bethm-- Tomorrow I will join you
then the healing can really begin. My arm pit opened up in a few places and I am so sore just below and above my breast. This to shall pass!
-
Congrats early Lory --- YIPPEE !!!!
Tonight I am using corn starch in a stocking and dabbing it under my breast and arm -- it gives me some relief !!
-
Joanne, does it help? I have a crack in my skin now in the crease under my boob-- trying to keep it moisturized and dry at the same time
