otter back again, this time on Mr. otter's iPad. Wow, is this cool.

I see blue nav bars, a drop- down menu, breadcrumb trail, and even the + and - buttons to expand or collapse categories. I do NOT see a bright white page -- it's pale gray; the compose box and page markers are white. The font size and color are very functional.

This new format does seem to have been optimized for devices like the one I'm on now. Too bad I don't have an iPad or iPhone. (Mr. otter will want his back in abt 4 minutes, when it's my turn to drive.) Looks like those of us who aren't keeping up with the tech world are farther behind than ever.

I haven't had a chance to check the formatting on my laptop today. That will have to wait. Man, I want an iPad!

Not a glitch, error or problem....but I thought blocking a forum was going to be an option with the new unveiling.  Is that still to come in the near future?

I'm still having problems logging in from iPad (using Safari).  I can read active topics, but if I log in I just get a blank page.  Same if I try to use the Jump to a Forum button.

Strangely, I can log in just fine from Safari from my iPhone.  Is there a setting I need to change?

I am so happy to see this more constructive thread going. I was trying to figure out where to post one, and found this.

My thought is about "My Favorite Topics". The topic name is halfway through the sentence which makes it difficult to easily see the topic name at a fast glance. I find the stacked format of "Active Topics" easier to navigate. If all I see on the left is "New", "New", "New" all the way down the list, it is just a blur of sameness. I want to see the topic first, then easily see if there are new comments on it.

I am not liking the term "Dashboard". It is a specific reference to a Mac application and I would guess that the majority of your users are not Mac owners. It is like announcing your political preference right out here on the site - actually worse, we are forced to use something that sways to your preference whether we like it or not.

The dividing headers inside the dashboard page could be just a bit more differentiated - maybe just 20% darker so that we can see the separations better.

The color scheme does not bother me at all.

Re: the term "dashboard," I use a PC and didn't even know Mac used that term. I've seen it on several other websites to refer to the user's home/control center. Though I would guess I'm in the minority here as a Tumblr user, lol.

gracie1, although we do have the new feature to block entire categories, we don't yet have the ability to block by forum. It's on our wish list, but no indication that it's in the works for this upgrade.

We're continuing to update the tech folks with member comments, thanks!

Just found a glitch, but not sure if its mine or yours.

I logged in with my kindle fire. Log in worked fine. I have to turn it sideways to see the navigation bars, annoying but workable.

The main issue is when I try to reply to a post my kindle doesn't recognise the reply box as a typing field. I can not, no matter what I do, get the keyboard to pop up so I can type. Anyone know of a fix for this?

Stormynyte, that's a new one for our list! We'll ask the techs to look into it, thank you.

Sorry mods....I feel so dense. What categories and how do I use this feature?

gracie1, when you look at the All Topics view, beside each category you should see a grey minus sign, OR an off-white minus sign within a grey circle (depends on individual set-up) to the right of the category title. Click that minus sign and the category collapses so you don't see its forums. The minus becomes a plus to toggle the full view back on if you want to.

I still can't go from Back to Top.  Can go from Top to Bottom.  I have windows XP and other than that, I know nothing about my system.

    Same here.

(Windows 7 Home Premium, desktop, IE broswer.) I click on "Back to top" and it is as though nothing had happened. "Jump to bottom" works just fine.

Back to the top and jump to the bottom work just fine for me.   I'm using Firefox 12.0 and IE9.

Back to Top and Jump to Bottom both work fine for me, I'm using Chrome.

Ironically, although nothing else works for me with Firefox, "Back to Top" and "Jump to Bottom" have always worked. So, I can hop all over the page, but I can't navigate directly to other pages except via the "Menu" button.

Oh... I take that back. It turns out that I do have the + and - icons that allow me to collapse or expand forum categories, with both Firefox and Safari and on all the computers I've tested. Handy feature.  Unfortunately, I still do not have nav bars, drop-down menu, or breadcrumbs, with Firefox. I do have them with Safari, but I cannot post with Safari -- I keep getting an error message. That leads me to suspect the Compose box is not active in Safari, even though I can type and format text in it.

I've come up with a work-around:  I read the BCO Boards with Safari, and I compose and submit posts with Firefox.

    <sigh>

New problem - when I click on a thread I've been to before, it is not taking me back to where I left off - it's going to the bottom of that thread and I have to scroll up to see recent posts. It used to do this.

Oh my. I hadn't been on the boards for a brief while, and I come back and this format change is a horrible surprise. Can anyone direct me to the post where the mods explain why they decided to go against the commonsense rule of if it ain't broke, don't fix it? There is no easy way to scan topics, everything is considerably harder on my eyes. Please, as someone else has suggested, restore a "classic" version for people who find this new one abhorrent. Do we all really need more stress in our lives? You've made a sanctuary a completely unwelcoming place. I'm on a MacBook, using Safari.

Why did you not even comment on the Classic view post I suggested?

I have another glitch....I wanted to see what windlass was referring to, so I clicked on her name and saw several comments under this thread.  Each time I clicked to view one of her comments, it kept bringing me back to her most recent comment. The only way for me to look at her other comments would be to SCROLL back (sigh...my finger is Charlie-horse from all the scrolling) on this thread...which I could have done in the first place.

Still waiting for a TABLE FORMAT.....  I'm on my desk top now, have to check with DH what operating system....

I reported this a few days ago, apparently it's still a problem.  When I try to change my avatar,  I am getting the message:

is not included in the list

It's in a pink shaded bar with a dark pink outline.  The picture is on my hard drive and in the Pictures Library area of my pc.  I can upload a picture I had used previous to the upgrade which is in the same Picture Library.  My camera is a 12.1 mpxl Canon SX40, I wouldn't think the picture format would be a problem.  I can load these pictures onto any other website (Facebook, Picasa, Blogger, etc).

I have my last treatment in two weeks.

As my sixteen-month breast cancer journey comes to a close, it may be that the destruction of this board is what it will take to push me out of the nest to move on. It wasn't my idea, and I hadn't planned to leave, but I don't think I can ever come to love, or even accept, this new BCO.

After more than 3,000 posts (I am amazed just thinking of the time investment that represents), all that I loved about this place feels gone. What hurts even more is the overpowering sense that the people who run this site don't get what we are trying to say to you, and won't engage the issue with us. There has been no acknowledgement or recognition of our sense of devastation over these changes, a devastation that goes so far beyond the technical problems that they're not even in the same realm of discussion.

Why is this website here? Does it generate advertising for some corporate entity? Who is running this place? I never used to ask these questions, because I always felt it was "us." Owners and mods and techs and patients and friends all united in the common cause of support. But now I feel like there is an enormous chasm between "you," whoever you are, and the people here who I have come to love, the members breathe life into these forums day in and day out.

The ant-like focus on technical matters while our other concerns are swept under the rug and not responded to makes me feel that all of the emotional investment and time I put in here, thinking this was in part "my" place, was mistaken.

If that's really true, it's taking me a while to get it through my thick skull. I'm working to accept it and just move on. But I want the people who made this decision and who are so staunchly defending it to really understand the human cost of what you've done. I am sure I am not the only person feeling bereft this week.

Windlass...I hear your frustration.  I am scrolling up and down the wazooo and it is making my finger and eyes go bonkers...I keep asking to bring back the table format on the Active Topics thread and haven't heard a word whether or not "they" have any intentions of making the change.  Are "they" dismissive?  Are "they" overwhelmed?  Or worse, do "they" not care?  Not answering our questions by all means, after asking us to use this thread to report our concerns, is NOT nice at all.

I wish you well with the rest of your active treatment!

BTW...spoke to the DH...Windows 7 here and Explorer on the desk top.  No difference from my iPhone except I am using  32" monitor.  STILL a crappy design......

Oh, Windlass, and Others. We REALLY DO want to make it better for you.

Please list the things that are still making you feel this way.

We'll bring it directly to our tech team today!

Mods... Look at the previous set up for active topics and restore how it was. The format now is too busy. Requires too much scrolling.

On the "My Favorite Topics" page it no longer lists how many threads you have.

In "Active Topics" it does list right under the name:

    Active Topics
    Page 1 of 10 (279 results)

    NOTE: Windows 7, Firefox 12.0
