Sientra Implants

I am so thoroughly confused. After hearing of the FDA approval and pm'ing with Whippettmom (she is the best!) I've been trying to do my homework about these implants. Does anyone actually have them as their implants? I tried to search the boards and all information I'm finding is about the FDA approval. So here is what my OCD brain won't let go of - with all the women on this website why does no one seem to have these implants and the FDA approves them. Seems like everyone has either the Mentor or Allergen? Next OCD question is in trying to research Sientra on the web, still don't see much information or "reviews" from users and seems like Sientra is the same as Silimed and when I research this there are warnings in Eurpoe (Germany) about use of this product. Seems like Silimed is a Brazilian company that at some point was acquired by Sientra.

Please help me thorough my OCD moments.. I am meeting with my PS in a week to discuss my exchange and possible breast lift on my remaining breat. I understand being small and a UMX that I would do best with the 410's but so many of you say that they feel hard and that scares me.

FDA just aproved them on March 9, 2012. That's most likely why no one on these boards has them yet.  I have done a ton of research as well because I'm a "bodacious" gal who currently has 800 cc silicone implants and I want/need larger, and want to stay in silicone if at all possible. The warnings I read about Silimed were quite dated, if my memory serves me correctly.

I contacted my PS office and gave them the information and asked them to research the company. They are doing that right now, but my PS said his initial thought is he wouldn't want to use them without knowing how others have fared using them.

    Good luck to you!

I spoke with a nurse practitioner yesterday at a new PS office (where I'm going for a second opinion). She has contacted Sientra and was told they were somewhat caught off guard by the timing of the FDA approval and the high level of interest and they can't say if they'll be available in a few weeks or a few months. She is waiting for a call back from a sales rep to get more information regarding sizing. The PS is willing to explore these and willing to let me be her first user of Sientra implants if she is ok with the information etc from the company. I am optimistic!!

I got a call from my original PS office today - they have a Sientra Rep coming to meet with them soon. I cannot tell you how excited this makes me! I know I'm not the only bodacious woman who has had breast cancer and needs more than 800 cc's to look "normal". So now I have an appointment with my original PS in May and an appointment for a second opinion with a new PS five days after that. I'm tickled!

Mtnester I also have the 800 in currently. If I may ask what size does it give you. Forgive me I have not been on the boards in awhile and am very excited about this as well.

Rebetata, because of the width of the implants I'm in a DD. In a bra and clothes I look like a large B, small C. I see my original PS a week from today, I cannot wait to talk to them. Rebecca - what size are your 800 cc's?

I will have to check out your pics! Today was disappointing. I went into the appointment knowing more about Sientra than the ps. The ps is going to try to get solid info from the company rep soon. I found their online catalog which shows their silicone implants only go to 700 cc's which doesn't help me at all. My PS is talking about stacking silicone implants or going to saline. *sigh* I am waiting for them to get back to me with Sientra info.

Oh please make sure you talk to Deborah "whippet mom" before you allow the stacking. I had a friend that had that done at scrips in San Diego and it did not g well. It is not used very much now these days.

I have already decided for the most part that stacking isn't a route I want to pursue. Primarily because when I asked my PS if he's ever done that before, he said no. I'm not holding a lot of optimism for my appointment on Tuesday with the second opinion PS. I'm tired today, didn't sleep well and I'm really starting to question whether or not I want to go throgh any more treatment/surgeries or if I can just "live with" what I have and buy push up bras.

I'm still a little "blue" about the whole mess! I hope I sleep well tonight. Do you ever feel like you're losing your mind? I don't know if it's the tamoxifen or the hysterectomy or maybe everything combined. Thanks for your support, I will let you know what I find out tomorrow!

I do feel like that alot. I am 34 years old and I feel sometimes like 90. But it does get better with time. I hope you slept well and I hope that the 2nd opinion has some answers you are looking for. Have you talke to your doctor about trying a antidepressant for awhile I know for 1 year that helped me.

Well let me know what happens todaySmile

The 2nd ps said it may be years before Sientra gets approval for the larger implants. She said she would NEVERstack implants. Her recommendation is to go to a saline implant, overfilled. She also wants to do work on my capsules/pockets to release them so the implants round out more, and she will move them out of my armpits. She had a surgery opening for the first week in June so I scheduled it, knowing I needed to come home and ponder and pray and talk to my husband.

I am on an antidepressant now to help with the hot flashes. I wish it would improve my short term memory! Thanks for your support, I can't tell you how much it means to me. :-)

I currently have the Sientra TEs, and will also be getting the implants at exchange time, but as of now, can't comment on the final product.

I know my PS was excited to use the dual chamber TEs. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since my bmx & haven't had a fill yet. :)

SO much better. they're still feeling very firm (though much squishier when poked Wink ) but from what i've read that's because the muscles contract down on them and then settle out, as they do/did with the expanders. the relief of having the pokey edges and port of the expanders out is immense though. almost all of my discomfort this time is at the incision sites and under my armpits where my PS had to do a great deal of pocket repair.

My PS has suggested Sientra from the start.  I have (double chamber) Sientra TEs and love the concept!  However, I actually had to have the affected side re-done because the TE rotated and the fill ports ended up in my armpit!  Lolololol.., except that I had to have another surgery! My PS was ready to do the exchange but after consulting with Whippetmom I decided to have him (PS) fix it instead. I have my second follow-up appointment with the PS this Thursday and will be proposing that we do the exchange on winter break (school schedule).  We have agreed to use the Sientra, tear drop, silicone gel 425cc implant. My desire is to be a solid "B" cup.  I'll be intersted to hear more from ladies with these implants.

it's strange being on the front lines of something new like this. i asked the PS about rippling and he said he's hopeful that it will behave like other cohesive gels but that he honestly doesn't know. i'll make sure and keep everyone posted as things change over the coming weeks and months.

also, i've been documenting my journey on my blog. lots of pictures. pm me with your email address if you want access!

eta, just going through my discharge stuff and found my sientra device identification and warranty card. the specific implants i have are 20676-400E. That translates to: Textured Shaped Classic Base Moderate Projection (apparently!) 12.5cm width, 13.5cm height, 4.8cm projection, 400cc. Tongue out

i had my post-op appointment with my PS yesterday and everything is healing fine. the muscles at the top of my chest are fairly swollen still but the look/feel is already so much more natural than the expanders. i have an appointment with him next monday to remove the tape and am happy to ask questions about the Sientras if anyone has them. he has used them a good deal since they were approved, though i'm fairly certain i'm the only patient of his that has them for reconstruction purposes.

Hi Still Snarky, do you know the difference between Allergan 410's and the newly approved Sientra?  I was supposed to originally get the 410's but due to insurance reasons the new Sientra's are what I am choosing, unless the 410's are FDA approved by the time I get my surgery (Nov. 2) then I have to pick one of them.  I heard Sientra is softer, did your PS say that is the only difference.  I'm hoping I don't get a lot of rippling:(  I can't wait for the surgery to be done.  Thanks, hope your recovery is going well!  Jenn

Good question! I will ask my PS that question when I see him again on Monday. He did mention that they're softer... NO rippling here so far.

I have Sientra's. I received the one in my MX breast in June and my other breast in August. The MX side is tear dropped, but the other is round. I've had some fat grafting done to smooth the edges. When I lean forward I see a little bit of rippling. I'd be happy to answer any other questions. I'm overall happy. Kind of wish they were smaller, they are a size bigger than I was, but that's a personal issue.

I'm due for an exchange from my TE to an implant, I've heard of Sientra but I don't know what all the talk is about, may I ask what is so great/different about them?

My PS didn't ask me what I wanted so I don't know what he will be using, they did give me a brochure on Mentor so I'm assuming that is what he is using.  Does the PS discuss with you what you want?, i.e. size, shape?

    Thank you.

Your PS should definitely discuss size and shape with you. The thing about Sientra's is they are the only silicone cohesive gels approved by the FDA in the US...currently I believe. The unique thing about cohesive gel is that it's semi solid and retains its shape. Most implants, especially saline only come in round form. It's hard to get a truly natural shape on an MX'd breast. A tear drop shaped implant gives a more natural projection. I only had one breast removed, but both received Sientra implants. I can feel the difference of the two only because one side still has breast tissue. I know they'll never feel the same, but overall I'm pleased with how they look. I am receiving fat grafting, because there are edges from the implant that need softening. Hope that helps.
