auntinance - I hope yours just stop thining and get with the program !! my left brow is half gone and starting to have gaps where there is hair left. the right one is alittle thicker. My eyes are so irritated- there are sores on the corneas from chemo that I was "assured" would heal ..but haven't yet. I'm petrified of losing the rest of the lashes..I can't see that doing anything to help the eye situation.

Lookin good Dragonfly! Love the high lights.
-
Hair looks wonderful Dragonfly!
-
Dragonfly - Beautiful!!!
My "bangs" are also dreadfully slow coming in. Funny thing is, before chemo, my bangs grew super-fast; I had to trim them monthly, or at least it seemed that way....
-
Ok, I digress a little but when did your hair completey come out? Just wondering if I will have a smooth as a babys butt bald head or if some of you still had some scraggly hair that stayed in? My hair is THICK! We crew cut it this past Friday. Had my 2nd round of chemo on 4/30. It is still coming out but at least I have something on top of my head and not sure I can stomach the bald look on myself.

Dragonfly - wow! Awesome! At 10 months PFC, no cuts for me. I keep saying I will NEVER cut my hair again! Ha ha!
As for lashes and brows, mine fell out completely with Taxol, but were back again within weeks. BUT, then they have shed every 3 months. Anyone else doing that? Lago I think I remember you saying that happened to you too.
-
What is everyone doing for the missing brows? Are you drawing them on? Anyone try 'human hair eyebrows' you stick on which stay on for a few days before needing to restick them on? I'm just starting to lose a few hairs and want to be prepared....
-
Slak, when I had no brows I used the eyebrow stencils and a collection of different eyebrow pencils. Once the brows came back a little I quit using the stencils. I had the best luck with an eyebrow pencil I got at the look good feel better class. My brows came in very bristly and wild. I found a pencil made by Revlon that has wax in it that helps tame them.

I had super thick hair too, and it started to come out a few weeks after my second treatment. But I was obsessing about it so much that I just shaved it all off with the help of my partner and a glass of champagne. My hands were shaking, but once it was done it was such a relief. I felt empowered.
I never liked the look of my bald head, so I wore little sleep caps around the house after my wig retired for the evening. And, I LOVED the feel of my crisp sheets against my naked skin.
By the way, I always had a bit of stubble, but I borrowed hubby's electric razor and kept it clean. -

Thanks Janet! I am not sure what I will do yet. Not brave enough to shave but I think it is coming to it! I think I like the surgical caps that tie in the back and that is what I have been wearing around the house. My kids like for me to wear my wig when I go out. Thankfully I work from home so I can wear it and come back and take it off!

MT, I had 4 rounds of FEC before surgery. Most of the hair fell out after the 2nd one, but I never became completely bald. Then it started growing again during the 7 weeks I was off chemo for the surgery and recovery. After surgery I had 4 rounds of Taxotere. Again, the hair fell out after the 2nd round, but after the 4th round I really was pretty bald and the brows and lashes fell out too. Add the dark circles and pale skin and I looked like your classic chemo patient. It did not last very long though, so take heart.

Hi All
I've been following this thread for a bit but I have yet to post. Well I think I haven't posted yet LOL! I forget!!
Anyway, just about 3 weeks PFC (I love saying that!) and my hair is starting to grow. A good bit of stubble hung in there after I had it buzzed by my hairdresser just after TX2. Have alot of white fluff and some dark coming in mainly at the back. Where it went smooth along the hairline is starting to get sprouts too. I had a bit of stubble fall out last week as evidenced by my lint roller but hopefully that has passed. My eyebrows kind of hung in there but yesterday I noticed my right brow has lost a bit more. Learning to pencil in at the LGFB class helped alot. I also put a little bit of dark brown eyeshadow to set it and it has worked well. I start the H train alone this Friday but and I've read that it can slow growth but I figure I've getting getting H all along so I'm a little hopefull.
I love seeing the pics of all of the people that are getting some really good hair growth, its very encouraging!!

Eyebrows! I use Anastasia brow duo. It's powder and stays one. It looks so natural. It was the first piece of "chemo crap" I bought about 2 weeks before my surgery. I was more worried about losing my eyebrows than hair. Still using it.
They do sell a kit with stencils too. Can be purchases at Ulta, Sephora, Nordstrom, Amazon etc. in the US. Don't know where in other countries.

Hear you on the eyebrow issue for sure. While I had a good brow prior to chemo, they have thinned with age and there were also grays sneaking in. I was getting them tinted once a month along with threading. They actually look as good as right now. I've seen the kits online at Sephora in Canada, going to pick one up for sure. I think I first saw these on the Oprah show come to think of it.
Can anyone attest to the olive oil TX? Was thinking of giving it a shot.
-
myleftboob mine just thinned I think from the Anastrozole. I mean they grew back after chemo then shed again but never grew back fully again. I had one gray one but that one never returned
-
Suz, you look beautiful! You can rock that short hair growth. Look at you! Gorgeous!
-
I am just beginning my journey. I have double mastectomy tomorrow. Chemo is a given. I wanted to ask how and when did you all zip your hair? Did you start cutting before chemo? Who did it for you.
I went and had a hair cut today and cut it about 3 inches shorter. My dresser says before I start chemo she will give me a radically short cut that I can spike. And then once the hair starts to go, she said she'd buzz it.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Sally

mt4ever some of my hair never fell out. I had 4 rounds fo TC. I never shaved my head or even cut it at all. I had shoulder length hair and I had these long heairs around my hiarline that didn't fall out but sort of broke off when teh new hair grew in. Then i had my haridresser cut it to amke it all even as it began to grow.
-
Carrol2 did you wear hats or did you just go around with the hair thinning or did you use a wig? I cannot decide what is right for me just yet! I know that the hair will grow back but I like many others used my hair as a security blanket! How do you ever feel like an attractive woman again? (That is my feelings, not anyone elses!)
I guess today is a poor pitiful me day!
-
mt4ever & cowgirl Like Carrol (we did our journey together) I never shaved my head. I did get a short cut. It can get messy though. I vacuumed my pillow and bathroom daily for a while. For those who haven't seen this in my transition link
1. The 1st photo on the right is a week before BMX.
2. Next photo is just after my 1st chemo but no hair shedding.
3. Following photo you can see my hair has thinned quite a bit from shedding.
4. The next photo is me in my wig that I wore twice.I wore scarves the entire time except for those 2 days (same weekend). I think if I had a nice shaped head I might consider buzzing it but I didn't.
-
Lago
Your hair seemed to grow quite fast in looking at the dates of the pics. You do have a nicely shaped head I agree!
I had mine buzzed even though alot of the hair remained in the centre of my head anyway, but my scalp hurt so much and my hair was so dry and nasty. Every time I brushed it I had a hairbrush full of hair so I just went for it. I had hair everywhere too including my food which totally grossed me out.
I had just gotten my hair to all one length to my shoulders and really liked it just prior to DX too!! Oh well, no point stressing about it, it's done now.
-
mt4ever and clowngirl - I had shoulder length hair before dx and about 2 weeks before chemo, my wonderful hairdresser came to my house and gave me a super short cut (her mom is a BC survivor). That lasted until a week after my 2nd tx - my hair was coming out in clumps. I had DH shave my head. I put a chair in the bathroom next to the bathtub so that all the hair fell in the tub, then he just vacuumed it.
I'll be 2 weeks PFC tommorow and have noticed a tiny bit of white fuzz if I tilt my head slightly when I look in the mirror. I also have a few longer sprouts that showed up during Taxol. I wear a wig to work and when I take my youngest DS out - he doesn't like my scarves or bald head. I usually go topless or wear a baseball hat around the house.
-
I had my hair cut to save my pony tail before chemo started. Then I had my hairdresser cut my hair into a very short pixie cut just after my first round of chemo. My hair started falling out after my second round (I had dose dense AC/T) and my husband shaved my head with his clippers to a "zero". I just let it fall out from there.
I kept my eyebrows and most of my lashes during chemo but my lashes started to fall out during Taxol. I am just a month PFC and NOW my eyebrows are falling out. My lashes are gone completely but that did not happen until 14 days PFC. I can see new lashes started to come in. My head is covered in white fuzz. So things are happening in the growth department
-
Oh bloody hell!!! It looks like my eyebrows are thinning out again
. Ah well, at least I can use pencil to correct....*sigh*
-
My first post-chemo professional color job, and I love it! I am 7.5 months PFC and my hair is pretty darn close to my normal summer length. We are leaving for Paris in two weeks and I am really happy with my wash'n wear shiny hair.
To everyone getting started, hang in there. And to those of you who ditched the wigs, scarves, hats and other headcoverings, you go girls!!! Do this "your way" with your head held high and a smile.
And it's good to see the picture-posting process didn't change.
-
LuvRVing you look great... What a nice amount of hair for 7+ months PFC.
LAGO...I have been following your hair posts and was wondering if you could give me any advice about when to color hair.
I am about 2 months PFC...had 4 ACs followed by 12 Weekly Taxol/Herceptins and am now on just Herceptin and finishing up rads. I have about 3/4" to almost 1" of hair and can't wait to color it since it is coming in an unattractive dull grey! How soon PFC did you color? -
Due to vacation I will have 4 weeks between my 5th and 6th (final) chemo treatment. I was wondering whether my hair might start growing in during this relatively "long" period of time ....and if it did, whether it would start falling out again with chemo #6.
-
Michelle
Your hair looks GREAT! Have fun in Paris, I'm planning a trip also, next summer when all my stuff is finished.
