Lost Job and paying for continued care

I lost my job and of course lost my benefits, my oncologist office helped me to get on the breast cervical cancer medicaid program because I have been on aromasin and will continue to be on aromasin for 2 more years-(of the five).  I am 57 and am concerned about the future.  Lets say worst case scenario I do not get employed ( it has been hard and I think my age does not help) and the 2 years are over, would I have to have the oncologist put me on another med to continue to qualify for medicaid?  Because it seems that what I have heard, that as long as you are "in treatment" and earn less than $27K per year that you qualify.  Also, is there another medication that you can take after the 5 year arimedex/aromasin thing?  I need so advice...Thanks!!

Just a thought....Can you see if your onc will leave you on Aromasin longer?  My onc has mentioned she may leave me on it 10 yrs due to my age (34), if I can handle it.  Not sure if you want to though if the SE are too bad or if you have osteopenia developing.  Good luck, hopefully someone else will chime in.

Thanks, I dont think he will keep me on aromasin after the 5 years.  My bone density shows that I have the bones of a 70 year old, so I have been on Fosamax generic for almost a year already.  I ache everywhere too, especially my legs and my heels!!  I hurt all of the time.  I fell skiing the winter before last and actually fractured my tibia, which he says is due to my bones getting worse.  So I did not ski this past winter at  all, I actually dont feel like it!!  Hopefully someone will hire me as I am getting older and less attractive to employers...

If I were you I'd apply for Social Security Disability benefits.  I did and although they did reject me the first time around the second time I was accepted!  It has helped us tremendously, and my 2 kids get a monthly amount as well that we are socking away in their accounts for college.  I HIGHLY recommend you at least take the time to fill out the online forms.  It does take a bit of time, and you will need all your medical contacts and files with you, so you have to be organized with all of that.  Also, I will warn you ahead of time it is a bit unnerving as you have to apply under the condition that you "have a condition that could result in death"---don't remember if those are the exact words but it did upset me that I had to see it in black and white like that.

Anyhow, if you or any other ladies need help with the info just PM me and I'd be happy to tell you how I proceeded.  And NO I did NOT hire a lawyer to do ANY of it, including the appeal.  No need to waste any more money than necessary right?

    Take care,
    Sharon

Hi, Thanks for the advise, I may just do that because no one will hire me and I am about to run out of unemployment.
I had worked for a bank that closed their doors from too many foreclosures.    I do not have any children at home, it is just me I am divorced, so it is really scary.
