Genomic Health called me today...

Genomic health, the lab that processes the Oncotype score called me today to discuss my insurance coverage. I was told I would owe $741.00 after my insurance company paid their share. She then asked me if we make over $75,000/year. When I told her we do not, she told me they have an assistance program to help defray the cost and we were eligible! Not only do I not have to pay the $741.00 but it will be applied toward my out-of-pocket expense. Finally some good news. Now hoping for a low score............

Wow, that is awesome! I'm waiting for my score to comeback too. That wil be the deciding factor on chemo for me. Fingers crossed for both of us!

So, how has tamoxifen been for you? I'll be starting that eventually too. Just waiting to see if I'll need chemo first or not.

They are great about helping make their test affordable! I am told I shouldn't owe anything even if my insurance refuses to pay.

Jen70........My score was 27. The upper end of the intermediate range.  The dreaded "gray" zone. My onco said it was up to me....I get a second opinion tomorrow. The Tamoxifen has been not too bad. My biggest SE is the hot flashes. Mostly hot, flushed face. Occasional bone pain, too. I can't believe I even considered not taking it! It's my best friend right now. Be sure to let us know what your score is, too!

Rn4babies, how did the second opinion go? That is such a tough spot to be in. I hope you got some advice from the other doc. I'll find out my score the end of next week.

It's good to know that Genomic Health will help you with the costs. I know that my insurance (TriCare) does not pay because it's "not FDA approved" nor is it considered "medically necessary". Genomic Health did say that my secondary insurance should pay, but I'm wondering if they will decline as well since it's not covered by TriCare. We'll see. I'm a widow and can't really afford to fork over $4000, although I'm very grateful for the test because it showed that I won't need chemo...my score was 9. I'm considerably below $75,000 per year, so maybe I can qualify as well. I spoke with a woman from Genomic Health several months ago and she was very helpful and optimistic about the cost being covered. She said Medicare covers it, but I don't go onto Medicare until next month...

jen70.....I like me second opinion doc so much better. She is wonderful! She is recommending T/Cx4 based on my oncotype, Grade 3, PR neg, and family history. I don't want to go back to my original MO but he is the one that runs the clinic that administers the chemo. I have to go there because of my insurance. She ordered a PET/CT for me and I see her again on Tuesday.
