If it wasn't for concealer I'd always look tired. I am past 45! Looking tired is normal. We've lived a lot of life. Stop comparing us to the 20 somethings

I have been using concealer under my eyes for as long as I can remember because I naturally have pale skin and undereye circles that are very apparent.  I have used concealer there since before my 20's so it's just an everyday thing for me.  I can count on one hand the times I went out in public without it, and if I didn't I would look a lot worse than tired.Wink  I think that I will just try to go with the mindset of keeping the outside, and more importantly, the inside of me as healthy as I can.  I'm all for "older" women wearing clothes that show off their figures, it just looks better when they do it tastefully.  It's a little sad when someone is trying too hard, if ya know what I mean.

Summer I remember I went back to school in my mid/early 40s. I was a loose size 4. At the time I could easily wear cropped shirts with my belly sticking out like all the coeds… and look better than many of them. Of course it wasn't an appropriate look IMO for my age… I'm not Madonna! (But with the new boobie prizes a bit closer although no longer a size 4).

my daughter (12) has been using my coconut oil.. i can tell because she leaves the lid off of the jar.  I think she puts it on her eyelashes.  She doesn't really need any moisterizer but it must have been mentioned in 'Seventeen Mag' because that is her bible.  maybe she puts it on her nailbeds.

Lago, I'm sure that you would have looked better than many of the coeds then and likely that would still stand today!  Almost everyday I see young women in skin tight camis and t-shirts and they are very, shall I say, unflattering?

    Lago-

Ditto that. I'm sure you looked pretty darn great next to a lot of them. I feel sorry for the young gals wearing the fashions that are meant for perfect figures..... and they are just trying to stay hip and in style, though it's all unflattering.... I'm a firm believer in having clothes reveal just enough, but not too much, if you know what I mean? I know I wore some skimpy clothing when I was in my 20s, but I sure saw a whole lot of super vulgar stuff when I was in Vegas last week.

Meh, it was Vegas, so anything goes there, I guess.

I'm 15 lbs heavier now. I was too thin back then but I wasn't trying. I was actually getting concerned. I just need to lose 5 (or 7) which isn't really a lot of weight.

OK..I bought some coconut oil. Tell me I won't be able to recognize myself in 30 days! Yes? Has someone had a really good 'big smile' moment from it? (get your mind out of the gutter):)

Vicky - every LGFB class is a little different, and the goodie bag is dependant upon what's been donated.  I did get some nice skin care products in my bag.

so yesterday, my DD (12) had a couple of her friends over.. they all have budding bosoms and tummies and are beginning to reveal hips.. they dress in short shorts, rather scantily.  So I go into MY bathroom.  There are two side by side sinks and a mirror across the wall.  Three tweens with longish blond hair have four devices plugged into the wall.  They have a huge floor fan blowing air into the bathroom..  and then they left.... onto the mixer they would be attending.

I didn't even bother to yell at them to pick up the bathroom because i knew my husband would do it.  .... there was makeup everywhere.    Sure enough I hear "Klara!!!!!! what is this mess? - you get in here".    The only bad thing is that 3 strange little girls were using my brushes and stuff.  Lucky for them i am not germ fragile at the moment.    Where is the camera.. i did take a few pics.  One of the girls competes and wins beauty pagents.  It must be a hometown thing, because she is pretty average looking altho if I were her mom I would say she has gorgeous eyes, and she does.

Does anyone have an "eye lift" cream they recommend for the upper eyelids?  I have tried two and didn't notice any difference.  I don't mind a few lines but I hate the changes in my eyelids cause I love eyeshadow, but you can't hardly see it anymore.

Not all clothing is appropriate for everyone at any age.   I saw a lady one day who was probably 60 and doing the tottering high heals, skinny jeans, tight top, lots of makeup.  I thought wow, I hope I never look that ridiculous trying to look young!  It is a balance between looking sexy and looking ridiculous.  I hope I know the difference when I go out in public!

Apple, I said to myself yesterday that all the young teens look so much better than we did.  Perhaps you have provided the answer, lots of makeup and hair straighteners/curlers etc! I have no daughters.  Boys are just as messy but don't have as much stuff.

twohobbies I went to 1st Fridays at the MCA (museum of contemporary art) in Chicago with a friend last night. While mostly a younger crowd it's great for people watching. There were a few women maybe 5-8 years older than me. They needed a fashion consultant for sure. Unless you have amazing legs (like my friend) you should not wear your dress that short… and if you have that middle aged waist barrel upper body, the dress shouldn't be tight and clingy.

I'm really tempted to sign up for a Look Good Feel Better class, but I'm worried that I won't be able to use many of the products I'd be given.  And I don't want to seem ungrateful by not taking the stuff that wasn't cruelty-free.

So I guess I will skip it.  :(

Cottontail, all the stuff is donated, so you'll never know what you get. It's a good decision to stay away as the volunteers putting it on would probably get offended. That's too bad, though. There is a lot of good stuff and I don't think animal testing is as prevalent now adays, or am I just being naive? Undecided

Apple, I'm fascinated with Tragedy TV, like Hoarders and Toddlers and Tiaras.

The latter is about beauty pagents and you are right, these are ordinary, sometimes less than ordinary little girls.  But, you put a pound of makeup, a full wig, fake nails, a spray tan and fake teeth and a sequened bikini on them and they look very different.

Sounds like the girls had fun though.  I only raised boys (my youngest is 15) so I have never had anybody to share any beauty secrets with or anything.

barbe, L'Oreal, Estee Lauder, and Proctor & Gamble, and Unilever all test cosmetic items on animals.  I personally won't use anything cosmetic items made by any of those brands, or any brands owned by them (like Herbal Essences, Olay, Aussie, Redken, Garnier, Maybelline, Clairol, CoverGirl, Suave, The Body Shop, MAC, Clinique, NARS, etc.).  L'Oreal and P&G are actually two of the biggest offenders, I stay far far away from them.

I wouldn't mind so much the technique help, and would put up with using whatever products they had while I was there, but I really don't want to offend them by not taking the bags of product.  I know it's all donated and can vary.  I'll just skip it.

Apple...when you talked of the teens having 4 devices plugged into the wall my mind immediately went to lalala land. How funny. I thought what are these young people doing? I knew nothing until I was married. Duh! Glad to hear it was just a fan......for what?

Cottontail. I went twice to the LGFB class. They will only give you the make up bag once. I acutally left most of the products there. I have sensitive skin so I wasn't willing to give many of the new products a try. I also don't wear foundation. Really I took very little and left the rest of others. For me it was more about learning how to use the products/apply make and counter act chemo effects. Learned a great trick for reducing those forward/backward lashes from my mouth to nose too. I brought my own products the 2nd time.

I think you can learn a thing or two from the LBFB class.  It was helpful to me to learn some tricks for disguising the "chemo look".  As far as the cosmetics they gave us...I was appalled that they would give these products to cancer patients.  (The products are all donated, but still...they are NOT safe!) The list of ingredients are atrocious...(mine ended up in the trash can after I got home.)  Not only are they dangerous products, but you end up with colors you may or may not like...you do not get to choose the colors.  Like I said there were some very good tips and hints for make-up during chemo.  They did a very good job of explaining how to prevent contamination of your make up products. (Very important especially during chemo.)  I think they mean well, but maybe they need some serious education on "poisons/carcinogens" product ingredients".

Thanks lago and FLwarrier.  Maybe I'll go ahead and sign up to learn technique and just not take the products.

Cottontail, the other bonus to the LBFB class was that they had wigs and scarves to give out.  They also taught us how to make/tie a turban.  It only last a 1 1/2 - 2 hours and it is free.  Hope you get to go and that you take away something beneficial from it.

I also worried about how old the donated products were in the lgfb bag. I gave a lot of mi e away also.

Lago....love people watching. If we go to a sporting event, I spend half the game looking at other women, and if I am with another wife, we spend the time doing the "glamour don't" comments. It is the best!
