one of my favorites, when rick santorum was in the US Senate, living in VA, he CLAIMED money from PA for homeschooling his kids.  Had to pay it back - a LOT of money....

Athena - I remember when Eisenhower started the interstate highway system - and I 91 was built in Ct and you couldl drive from New Haven directly to Hartford...now, of course, continues up to that "other" country Tongue out

I thought politics was the only arena in which someone could bring up deep, important concepts and the only thing some people will walk away with are meaningless soundbites in the form of words. Big sigh!!

    Good morning, everyone!

Oh, Athena, I've done *headdesk* so often that my forehead's flat.

Day 6 of The Great Pipe Emergency is dawning in the Scoot household, and we're awaiting the arrival of water remediation peoples.  Again.  The worst is over, though - the water pipe repaired, carpet torn up, drywall cut out - so we're focusing on making it all right again.

In other news, my Caps (anagram for CPAs) beat the Rangers to draw even in the Stanley Cup playoffs.  Go CAPS!!

    Happy Tuesday !

    Morning Scoot !!!

This time when I say I'm going to bed I am - last night I ended up still awake at 1am even though I had taken melatonin - sweet DH has this bad habit of talking to me when I'm trying to go to sleep but it wakes me up. Had the day off but ended up working for most of the morning, so I'm only putting in for a few hours sick - fair enough I reckon.

    Good Morning!

Athena .. It is cool and sunny here today.  And there is a very nice breeze.  I think you would like SW VA better than DC today.

Scoot ... Glad the worst is over for your water pipe repair.  It sounds like a huge mess to clean up.  I would be pulling my hair out!

Getting ready to leave ... need to pick my mom up in Winston-Salem, which is about 1 1/2 hours south/west of me.  I'm glad for her company this ... then we leave for the beach on Friday.  It's going to be a quick trip as we will return on Sunday afternoon.

Hope everyone has a great day.

    Bren

PS .. I read something this a.m. about Planned Parenthood's victory in Texas yesterday.  Going to see if I can find the link.

    http://bostonherald.com/news/national/southwest/view/20120501planned_parenthood_scores_a_legal_victory_in_texas

"By requiring plaintiffs to certify that they do not 'promote' elective abortions and that they do not 'affiliate' with entities that perform or promote elective abortions ... Texas is reaching beyond the scope of the government program and penalizing plaintiffs for their protected conduct," Yeakel wrote in his order."

Athena, it is looking up though. I just noticed that you are in DC. We are visiting your fair city, and after the rain this AM, the weather looks like it is clearing up.

    Hi Everybody-

It's back to work for me today after a week in beautiful Hawaii. It was a little jarring to go from 85 and sunny to getting off the plane here in Seattle in 48 degrees and rain. :(  Also, the sub I had arranged to work for me almost a month ago was a no show yesterday, and my coworkers had to scramble to cover for me.

Our sewer line was fixed while we were gone-I wanted it that way, I can't stand to be around during projects like that. I now have a 10 foot long strip of carpet missing from my family room floor and a new cemented-over trench but the good news is, everything works!

Welcome back Mary but are you sure its raining at your end?  Wink At my end of Seattle it is sunny albeit still blowing a bit.  Oh well the seagulls are definitely enjoying the wind. Yesterday when I walked from the bus it was glorious out, so glorious that my goofy DH went and did 7 miles of his marathon practice run BAREFOOT!!!!!   (anyone wishing to sponsor him for the American Cancer Society DetermiNation run please PM me for the website).  Why yes, his feet are still attached and are NOT completely bloody.

Glad to hear everyone's plumbing issues are resolving--I confess when I read about such disasters, my faith in being a renter and not having to deal with such things is restored!  Tongue out

We are engrossed in the craziness that marks the end of the school year.  oh yes and there's that work thing!

    A great day to all!

3monstmama-We flew into Bellingham at 8:00 yesterday morning. We actually got off the plane on the tarmac there, and it was raining. Nice welcome back.

Everyone else's plumbing problems make ke feel better about ours. It was just a small drain problem.

Now about my friend. She has Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. It is very seriuos. She is still in critical care. 30% of people who get this die of it. I am just so sad.

Rosemary, I am praying for your friend. I have been away for two weeks. Jeez and 10 pages so I skipped to the end. Mary glad you had a great vaca in Hawaii. I need to get there one day. 3Monst, your DH is a nut! Bren, have fun at the beach! HL Thinking of you. Momine, Scoot and Athena I too, do #HeadBang regularly.

Job is less taxing since I had a come to Jesus (thank you Lord) with my boss. Hoping to get back to working from home most of the time rather than 2 days a week.

Hoping Blue is doing fine. Waving to Sunflowers, Kira, and everyone else whom I have missed. I promise to be more regular. Wow, that sounds like a commercial for a laxative.

Thanks, Barbara and welcome back to us. Glad you came to a spiritual (HAH!) understanding with your boss! Welcome home Mary, and sorry for your crappy weather. We got hot and humid all of a sudden ... It is 79 on my deck in Arlington VA among the trees.

I had a D&C & hysterscopy today in preparation for my BSO. Surgeon was satisfied with what she found so I don't think there will be any problems with BSO and uterus can probably stay. I was thrilled to pieces to have the same anesthesiologist who I had with my DIEP... He TOTALLY gets my exceptionally cheap date metabolism. DH loves him too ... We never have to worry about him killing me accidentally. He is funny and smart and nice, too. He said I can ask for him for my BSO, so that just improves my QOL dramatically. After we left the hospital we went to Outback where I consumed a small sirloin, cheese fries (half a small order) a salad, a baked potato, apple fritters, two cokes and a small loaf of brown bread. I hadn't eaten for 22 hours... I was starving. I feel fine now, not even any cramps, but I am probably still slightly stoned. Feeling pretty cheerful, actually, now that I have been fed!

    Hugs to all!

    Happy no-longer-hungry Libby

Oh, and Rosemary, I am so sorry about your friend. My doctor warns me about ARDS every time I get a respiratory virus and I understand how terribly serious and scary it is. Hugs to you and your friend -- sending healing thoughts her way as hard as I can.

HL - GREAT to see how well you did!!

BarbarA so nice to hear from you Great to hear about near-Nirvana with your boss! In the ten pages you missed I resigned and will leave my job on June 1. My boss is irredeemable under any belief system or hallucinogen, for that matter.

Go back two or three pages and check Bren's picture of her gazebo - have a feeling you'd love it.

Libby - nothing is better than a good steak and potatoe dinner!  I also love Outback Steakhouse - just wish my dh would like it as much as I do.

Today started out with me oversleeping and waking up to my cell phone ringing - I was LATE!

Then out to the barn to see Jazzy and I asked my trainer to ride her as we are working on trot to canter transitions and I want them smoother before I try them.  My trainer wants to show her in Training Level 1 in Dressage and I want to stick to Intro (lowest class there is) so we need to have more discussions regarding that topic.

DH is stuck out of town at least until tomorrow if not the next day.  He was supposed to come back today.  The problem is once he does get home he will stick around the house for a couple of days and that will drive me nuts.

What hospital do you go to?  I went to Sibley, and they were SO wonderful. Expect your BSO, is not what folks in this area would know as "Boston Symphony Orchestra" - unless they're gonna show your op at Tanglewood?  Dinner sounds wonderful..

Barbara - happy to hear you knocked some sense into the boss - hope it helps.

I just got a call wanting to know if my friend had ever told me if she wanted to be kept on life support if there was no hope of recovery. She had not said anything to me. I think she would want to be let go but I would not want to have to make that decision. I guess it is just a matter of time now. I am just praying for peace for her now.

    Sunflowers,

I go to Arlington Hospital, now known as Virginia Hospital Center. They are very good, and very good to me. BSO = bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, or removal of both ovaries and tubes. Just an easier shorthand. Those puppies are coming OUT, and now that I know I can request my favorite anesthesiologist, I am quite cheerful about it.

Thanks for the support, ladies! And yes, I am STILL hungry! :-)

(((Rosemary)))) how sad, and what an upsetting call for you to get.

HL - I sent those "parts" to heaven about 24 years ago, lots of bits of stuff gone now.  You'd think I'd be "lighter" - naw, ROUND - I'm blaming the Arimidex, oh, well, age, but I remember when I had a wasitline and only 1 chin...seem to remember eyebrows too, but not sure. Still really like being here in my garden...

hope everyone is having a good day-
