    Onvacation-

I started supplementing with Vitamin K to help absorb calcium, and my dark circles are much less noticeable when I am taking this.  There are creams to use externally for dark circles that contain Vitamin K, but I have never used those.  I still get allergic shiners (especially at this time of year), but they are much less noticeable when I take Vitamin K.

First makeup - some colored lip balms that smelled (and tasted) like different flavors when I was really young...I remember I couldn't wear foundation (just powder) or mascara when my mom first started letting me wear makeup but I am sure I wore some pretty hideous eyeshadow.

How about Sun-In - circa, um I guess 1986?  I was about 13 and RUINED my hair because it just turned orange...did the home perm thing too.  It was the 80s and I was cursed with fine, thin, hair that was stick straight.  I remember teasing the bangs and sides with Aqua Net and then there was barely any hair in the back from the way I kept pulling it forward. It looked great (so I thought) from the front but ridiculous from the back!

onvacation, use whatever you use on the rest of your face under your eyes. It will match perfectly then. I learned that from Carmindy (?) on What not to Wear. So, if you use powder, put the powder under your eyes as well, fluid make-up? Even better! I used a concealer for years and it just looked old fashioned. When I do it the new way, it is so much more natural. Good luck!

Kltb04, I think the flavored lip gloss was bonnie bell. We used to keep big cans of aqua net in our lockers in high school - we probably damaged the environment in the 80's because of our big hair.

Does anyone remember Ten-O-Six astringent liquid? I will never forget that smell. It was like putting rubbing alcohol all over your face. How about the tubes of Clearasil? Also, I remember some sort of cream blush, Tangee I think, that looked white in the tube, but it was supposed to go on your cheeks as the exactly right color for you.

Ohmy gosh, I went through some huge bottles of Ten-O-Six...like 64 oz bottles.  It was like magic though, like your face would be better the next day.  How about white-white by Bonnie Bell, for under the eyes???

Dippity Do was a big one in our house, and Lilt & Toni perms.  My mother wanted my sister and I to have this big full head of curls but always ended up with limp curls and frizzy hair.

My mom tried so hard with dippity do on my hair. My hair was stick straight. She would put my hair in 2 pony tails each molded into a big banana curl. Didn't work. Here is a picture of me at my kindergarten graduation. You'll notice my hair has a slight wave. That's because my mom had me in the banana curl, dippity do pig tails that fell out by the time I got to school. She gave up and took out the elastics/ribbons and decided my hair looked better without. Tongue out

Note the crooked bangs. Everyone seemed to sport those at that age.

The problem with Dippity Doo is that my mom would use spoolies to curl my hair, and slather it with Dippity Doo beforehand.  I'd wake up the next morning and my hair would still be wet!  Yeah, that was back in the days when we slept in all those curlers.

    google sp...

I remember sleeping in those hard pink curlers!  Every night my mom would roll my hair and I would sleep in it.  Not sure how I slept with those in!  But I did have curls the next day!

i remember my mom went to a PTA meeting and I realized that the next day was picture day.  I curled my own hair with those 4 inch long, brown rubber, slender curlers.. you'd pull up the side protector and secure it.. so my hair was super curly at the ends  then had a stick out straight edge at the end  of the curl.. I sure wish i could find the picture.. it was a hilarious disaster.  I was proud tho that I curled my hair myself.

I remember standing in front of a mirror with my mouth open WIDE as I kept poking myself in the eye trying to put on mascara.

apple, sounds like you used PERM rods!!!!

I did the curls into pony-tail look for one school picture, but didn't check out my look before I got the photo. The curls had all gone and my hair was just sticking straight out from my head in the pony tails! The pic was SO bad that my Mom wouldn't buy it and I had to return it to the school!!! How embarrassing is that?? If she REALLY loved me, she would have paid for the pics just to get them out of circulation!!

Also for hair, I think it was called "Sun In" and sometimes I got to heavy handed with the spray and turned a very unappealing orange color.

LuvRVing- I don't think I've ever seen those spoolies.  They look pretty nifty-better than the bobbie pins and pin curls!Smile

Lago- darling photo!  I remember all those dresses with affection, now, but my mom made me wear dresses so much because I was the only girl with four brothers.  I remember being teased and called "Dressy Bessie" in middle schoolEmbarassed

Stage 1, with 4 sisters, we had gallon jugs of Bonnie Bell in every bathroom, too,  AND Witch Hazel AND Helena Rubenstein Cleansing Grains AND some gloppy stuff called Resinol...no wonder I have rosacea!  I remember the Bonnie Bell white-white and the racoon look...; )

How about the Body on Tap shampoo that came in bottles that resembled beer bottles?

OMG here's another one - Q-T - I forgot about the Quick Tan (QT) - turned me and my BFF bright orange and streaky - I was always talking her into trying new things.  Oh and Lee Press On Nails...

I had hot rollers that were versions of the SpoolE's above and the rod type ones similar to what apple described - I think they were called Hot Sticks or something - those produced a tight sprial curl with nothing on the end but frizz/straight hair.   The ones that were spool shaped would never set because by the time you got your hair all up in them, the heat couldn't get to all your hair.

lago, love the pic!  LOL on the bangs, I confess, I trimmed my now 12 year olds bangs when she was around 2 and no one has ever let me forget it - I just kept going shorter and shorter to even them up.

Oh and back to current topics - I finally got the coconut oil - love it!

KLT - do you use the coconut oil on your face or just body?  I'm scared to put it on my face!

I was too - in fact, I was afraid that was what might have caused my rash on my arms (now I think it was sun sensitivity) but it didn't break my face out at all.

I just heated it to oil by sitting it in warm water and used it really sparingly...I probably could/should have used more but I was afraid to overdo it - and thought my glasses might just slide off my face it I made it too greasy. ;)

all you need is drop of that coconut oil for your whole head.  above 70 and it turns into an oil.. and again.. it is the best for sauteeing.
