    ducky, I vote for growing tomatoes. 

    When I was a child and was taking "Housecleaning 101," my mom insisted that I had to dust the vertical sides and legs of furniture, not just the top surfaces.  Sheesh.  But, I had to do it, along with all my other Saturday chores, in order to earn my allowance -- which, IIRC, was something like 50 cents a week.  (Yeah, and we had to hike 4 miles through 2 feet of snow, uphill both ways, to get to and from school, etc.)

    Oh, and I'm sorry I missed the birthday bash, ducky.  I hope it was a good one!

    Happy belated birthday, Ducky!  Hope you partied hearty!

    Dust bunnies/rats/moozies ... I believe they are cat seeds.  I have a lot of them.  I vacuum every week, and .... sometimes .... I swiffer under the beds. (We also have hardwood floors with throw rugs ... which I know we will have to get rid of in another decade or so.)  I believe the critters under the bed are cat seeds and they will grow into more cats.  I don't mind, but DH does.  So I swiffer them up, or occasionally I unlimber the vacuum hose attachment and wave it around under there.  Hope nothing grabs it from me and hauls me under there!

    Seeing the bs today - hope she's not worried about those micro calcs they saw on my mammo.

    Wish me luck with the pest man - I've got lots of stuff to pick up so he can get at the skirting boards - sigh.

    While we were here worrying about dust bunnies those evil Canadians were plotting world domination.  I know it's hard to believe they would do such a thing ... (they seem so nice don't they?) but how else do you explain the fact that they have created a glow in the dark dinosaur quarter???  Not only will they win the hearts of our children but they are going to suck up boatloads of our $$$.  Linda ... get me about 5 of them and I'll pay you double!   Laughing

    HI!---Happy Birthday, Ducky!!!----spiders and dust bunnies what a combination.  My DIL found a wolf spider in her garage,took a picture posted it on FB. She then called me to tell me NOT to go to her page, because-----as I went to her page---she posted a SPIDER. SCREAM<SCREAM<SCREAM. Thank You DearHeart for letting me know. At the swapmeet one day myDH and I were having a lovely time, I was looking at some jewelry, he calls me,I turned around and he holding A paperweight with a TARANTULA in it. FFFFFFFFFFFFFF and tears!!! I dont like spiders of any size.    Anyone know how to get dustbunnies off of a popcorn ceiling?  I want the ceiling cleared of popcorn, but he doesnt. The bunnies have to be picked off one at a time. Vacuum doesnt work, sweeping doesnt work, just picking. I hate it.    Hoping all testing and the debugging go well. I am also missing Blue----------kad2kar

    Does anyone know how to replace the water line going from the main to the house?  Mine has apparently burst and now water is in the basement.  I have a plumber coming tomorrow but oh, I see water damage claims in my future.  

    Why did I buy a house again?

    Scoot ... I am so sorry to hear about your water line.  It sounds like the plumber will have to dig up the part of the yard where the water line is located.  Do you know where it is broken?

    Yuck Scoot.

    My friend is back in the hospital. She can barely breathe. I hope they get to the bottom of this. I have a feeling she will have to move. There is standing water in her basement. It is an old house with a dirt floor in the basement and I don't know if it is fixable.

    Rosemary - no wonder she's sick - moving would be a good idea - this is so terrible - I hope they find out what's wrong.

    Scoot - ouch sounds expensive. I hope you can claim.

    Ok, I've decided - you all are coming over here to spring clean for me - I've been moving stuff away from the walls a bit and YUKK - found a mess in the spare/junk room downstairs - ants coming out of the window sill mind you - daddy longleg spiders etc. I've cleaned it up but we really need a giant clean out. We seem to have been stuck with a lot of the kids stuff and I think it's time to chuck it.

    Got to get ready to see the bs, if Steve ever gets out of the shower. I'll move more stuff when I get home. Just as well I had the day off.

    My SIL knows how Scoot! He did it at their house this fall. It involves finding out where the underground wires and pipes for other things are buried and dealing with all sorts of city officials.  It also involves turning off the water to the house, renting a digging machine, lots of dirt moving around and some action down where the pipes are. I enjoyed the part where my DD, SIL and their two children stayed with me while their water was off.

    There is a great long story about whether the problem was on their property or on the city's property. That matters.

    Hi guys!  Its boring boring boring old me!  Sorry not to get back sooner--thankyou all for the supportive comments--but there is much monster and mother stuff going on.  Anyrate the great news is that the surgeon said "see you next year!!"  I say yippie!

    had meeting at skilled nursing today.  Mom is getting kicked back to assisted living next week.  She is, in my humble opinion, plenty ready to go.  The big question is how long will she last--on Tuesday she did the taxol-cisplatin(sp) combo for the first time.  After I explained to the chemo nurse that mom doesnot drink enough water to keep a mouse alive, the chemo nurse gave her a BIG lecture on drinking and they even told her that for the first days she ought to be peeing every hour because the cis can damage your bladder if it sits in there.  well she's not drinking and therefore she's not peeing....sigh....oh yes and she will boss of her own meds as soon as she leaves skilled nursing. more sigh.

    On the bright side it is BEAUTIFUL outside with lots of blue sky and puffy clouds.

    Belated happy birthday duckie---I'll have something in your honor tonight.

    The drink of the night is Chardonnay Plus. It's chardonnay and St. Germaine (elderflower liquer). St. Germaine can also be splashed into gin and tonic for a nice change of pace.

    Great news 3monst you are so boring - me too. The bs said she's not too worried about the micro calcs they found - nothing to be seen on US. Next scan in October - MRI - that will show any real problem. I was glad she agreed with the radiologists report - just keep an eye on it.

    The pest man in here spraying for ants outside at the moment - lucky there's lots around for him to see. Steve ran away to the golf driving range. He'll be coming inside very soon - better get off the puter.

    Pests sprayed, everything put back where it was. I even had time to take Steve's 4wd to the dealer to get the radio code - he'd lost it and the guy next door took his battery out one day, so no radio since. He's too lazy to have ever done it. Lucky they didn't charge me - I had read online that they sometimes do (as much as $40) and that cars older than 10 years had had their details delete, so we were very lucky.

    I have a Dyson Animal for the cat hair in the carpet and it is disgustingly impressive how much builds up in a week. To tie in with the spider conversation, I've used the Dyson to get spiders that are either on the ceiling or (last week) too big to want to tackle. Lovey is the kitty who does the "Mommy, Mommy, there's a bug!" dance to alert me and last week she discovered a spider on the wall - one of those fuzzy black ones about the size of a nickel. I sucked him up with the vacuum and followed up by vacuuming some cat litter out of the rug under the Litter Robot. Just to make sure that if he'd survived being vacuumed, being pelted with litter would finish him off. Sorry. No trap and release for bugs here, except moths or lightning bugs.

    Awwww jeez....don't kill the spiders!  I can't kill anything unless it's a mosquito.  Everything else is strictly trap-and-release.

    So it's been fun around here!  We were up until midnight last night getting ready for Relay for Life today and trying to work around the no-water issue.  Thankfully, I was able to turn the water off & on at the meter itself (a whole new skill set - requires 1) balance to teeter on the edge of the meter vault without falling; 2) strength to turn the impossibly difficult meter turny thingy; and 3) strong teeth to hold the flashlight while I raid the vault at midnight.).  

    The plumber came this morning and he's coming back at 10am to start work.  Thankfully, it will only cost $2,500.  Visions of $5,000+ were dancing in my head.

    Wish me luck at Relay tonight!  Woohoo!

    Auugghhh...wet basements - MOLD, MOLD, MOLD - she HAS TO MOVE.  It seeps up the walls, even if walls feel dry to the touch, it's in there - DEADLY, esp. to someone with vulnerable lungs, and any kind of allergy.  I speak from experiecne on this one....NOT FUN.  Rosemary, make sure she moves!

    YEAH, BORING.  So good to know at least one part of things is going smoothly, aren't those the Most Beautiful words: "see you next year."  Love'em, just love'em.  Hope blue skies & puffy clouds make the difficult, DIFFICULT things you have to do, a little bit, lighter.

    It is SO cold here, I can't even plant my lettuce.  Down in the 20's last night, and tonight. Very confusing.  Feels like early March, when it felt like late June. Just finished packing away winter clothes - bacin to small to keep on shelves during Spring.  Off to unpack.

    Sunflowers - yesterday I was out in shorts and t-shirt and today it is COLD!  In fact it is snowing up in the mountains right now.  I was planning on working in my flower beds today doing some weeding for the first time this season but instead I think I will hunker down in the house and be lazy.

    Susie - would love to have that excuse to not vacuum!!  I just use the excuse that I am in too much pain or too high on the pain pills Laughing

    Riley - I have 2 cats and 2 dogs so you can just imagine the pet hair that floats around my house!  I do try to keep my house clean but it is a never ending battle and now the dogs are bringing in all of the flower petals, stems, etc. 

    Scoot - I do kill spiders but not mice.  In fact if a cat or dog starts playing with a mouse here - I shoo them away so that the mice can live.  Jazzy had a pet mouse in her stall when she was growing up at the first place she was when she was born.  She knew that mouse was in there and I swear it was her buddy.

    Good Afternoon Everyone!

    We're having perfect Athena weather.  Temps barely hit 70 today.  It's still too chilly for my taste.  I'm anxious for spring and summer temperatures.

    Scoot .. OMG ... $2,500 is a LOT of money.  I'm just glad it wasn't more than that.  Glad to hear you're doing the Relay.  I've collected money for the local Relay in the past, but never physically participated.  I hope it's a wonderful experience for you.

    Jancie .. I don't kill the mice either.  But I do make sure they can't get in the house.  I trounce on everything that moves with six legs!
