Watching anything good this season?

Once you see Breaking Bad, everything else will seem second-rate.

Just kidding.....I'm just such an uber-fan of the show. Of course, because I love it, it's ending.....hmmmpff. Don't know what I'll watch when it's over. I'm not big on reality shows but I kinda like "Deadliest Catch". I actually shed a few tears when Phil Harris died. Don't know why, I'm not interested in the premise, but I find it intriguing. Weird. And of course there's always my daily guilty pleasure....TMZ. Have to say though, some of those guys are so irritating (particularly Harvey), they laugh at the dumbest things....but I do like to hear the dish on celebs. The voice-over guy cracks me up.

The series called the big C started here on regular chanels this week. Are any of you following it?Looking back I see many of you are watching it.Sorry this is the first season for me.
-
The Big C is one of my favorites. I really like the main character, Kathy and love the woman who was her neighbor. When someone lst told me about the show I thought Oh no, another show giving a bad name to cancer (Did you ever watch Patry of 5? The older brother had cancer and he was a real asshole to everyone after his diagnosis), but I was pleasantly surprised. Others must like it also since it's now in the 3rd season....I think you will like it.
Although I had gotten away from the show for several years, I am now back to watching Greys Anatomy.
-
Another show filmed in Albuquerque, In Plain Sight, will end this week. I'm sorry to see it go. It took a, at times, unlikeable character and made it work. They kept changing things up and finally threw up their hands and quit. She shouldn't have kept the baby. It just wasn't in her make up. I liked Mary. She wasn't perfect, but at least women could identify with her. None of us are perfect either. Got to like her co-star. Hope he gets more work soon.

I love you guys for doing this thread! I watch far too much TV, probably, but I love it and popular culture in general.
Reality TV - mostly do not like - but there is the new show Duck Dynasty on A&E that is so funny. With apologies to anyone who loves a ZZTop style beard on a man, I am not sure how the wives/girlfriends of those men can stand them, but I suppose the money they are making off those duck calls helps.
I also like The Big Bang Theory, True Blood, Psych, Mike and Molly, and The Closer. Also like Game of Thrones and Mad Men but I keep forgetting they are on and have to watch them on demand. And my guilty pleasure - Spartacus, which I watch with DH and my (grown) sons. Sometimes I visualize the rebel gladiators are the chemo and the evil Romans they are beating are the evil little cells.... But the actors are pretty hot to watch, too, lol.
I know this is a movie, not TV - but the new Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp looks cute too! I remember the original from when I was a kid but I thought it was scary back then. I love Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in Tim Burton movies. And I'm sooooo looking forward to The Hobbit later this year (I think).
:-) -
Ah yes, Dark Shadows with Barnabas Collins. I have the 45 record Quentin's Theme. I love True Blood and it is actually the reason we got the premium channels so I could watch it and then I discovered all the other shows on there. Last night was a dilemma, because Nurse Jackie and The Big C were the same time as Game of Thrones....so I opted to watch the first two at 9 and 9:30, watched Game at 11 until I fell asleep, woke up at around 2 AM and found it was on again so them watched the part I had missed. I watched this show Girls in-between, but do not watch Veep which might be a very good show, I just didn't want to get involved in yet another one. But I do want to watch that one coming which is about a news commentator. I love it when I don't have to go to work the next day because then I can just watch tv shows all night long. Every so often a movie I really loved like Pretty Woman or Pulp Fiction will be on and I will watch it again. Re Johnny Depp.....I really like him even though they say in real life,he seldom bathes.
-
I am going to see if i can find breaking bad on our tv
I love Raising Hope. The little girl looks like my dd at that age. Weird.
I got hooked on Lost during chemo and watched whole series in about six weeks on netflicks. The firsttwo season were great, but have no idea where they came up with those crazy story lines -
Breaking bad is my favorite show. The new season has not started yet but you might be able to catch the older seasons online or on Aand E chanels. The Big C I am catching the 1st season on the W chanel on friday nights.
-
Lol about Johnny Depp - that's why I enjoy actors for the characters they portray - not who they really are! Knowing his history, I would say eccentric is probably the mildest way to describe the man. I just really enjoy him as Jack Sparrow and when he does other characters with English accents.
-
I love Person of Interest,NCIS,Harry's Law,Castle. My list goes on and on..
I'm going to miss House,In Plain Sight and The Closer.
I watch a LOT of TV. DVR most shows so I can skip commercials. I pay a lot for my cable, but I don't drink, smoke or go anywhere other than dr appts,so why not?
Those of you with premium cable can watch On Demand (if you have it),or just use Search feature,if you have it. Plus shows on premium cable repeat late the same night or at different times during the following week.
You can also watch NBC and ABC online.

I remember being in high school and rushing home with 2 of my friends to watch dark shadows. We would stop at the drug store on the way and get a bottle coke and a bag of chips total 25 cents and go to my house because it was the closes and watch it and get really scared. Loved Dark Shadows.

Did you know Jonathan Frid who played Barnabus Collins recently died? I was a devoted fan of that show.
-
I heard that, too. He was actually older than I had thought, as I remember.
-
If any of you happened to watch last year's Camelot on Starz, also, Eva Green was awesome as Morgan, and she's Angelique in the new Dark Shadows movie.
-
Ah yes, Dark Shadows, I too would hurry home to see it. It was one of the first things I saw on TV that was in colour. Remember the waves crashing in the intro? At the time, it was scary. Sorry that Frid died recently (on Friday the 13th!). Hope he got an advance copy of the new movie. Do you suppose he had a cameo in it? Have to wait and see.
Re Johnny Depp: You know, he does live in France part of the time. Not bathing with frequency is something that some French do (or don't do). I swear that's why we have outdoor markets! It's a leftover relic of a time when bathrooms were not included in flats. Maybe he's following the creed: When in France...
-
I read that Jonathan Frid does have a cameo in the movie. I think the movie comes out May 15.
-
It comes out May 11 - which is the day of my tx#2 - so I'll have to wait a little bit to see it - but I really want to go!!! Dark Shadows always makes me think of my cousin. He was my age, but always seemed a lot older to me - a totally cool kid and one of those "bad boys" who you just couldn't help liking. He and I were like night and day (I was a shy bookworm), but we just always clicked.
The summer I was 7, my younger sister and I spent a week with him and my aunt and uncle while our parents were on vacation, and he got me to watch Dark Shadows with him. He liked it not only because it was cool and creepy, but also - his words - because there were so many pretty girls on the show, lol. He was always a ladies' man. Anyway, he, of course, watched the show and never turned a hair - while I actually had nightmares for days afterwards, ha ha!
Poor guy didn't always make good choices in life, especially later when it came to picking out wives, and went through two really miserable divorces. He had finally seemed to get his life on track, had a really great girlfriend and a good job, and then was in a terrible car accident that left him in a semi-vegetative state. He passed about a year ago after hanging on for over a year after his accident. I didn't see him much after we had both grown up, but I never forgot how close we were when we were kids. Miss you Dan!!!
Eva Green is French, too - hmmm. Not sure if that has anything to do with anything? She's such a good female villain.
Maya - I've always wondered - the prison in the Count of Monte Cristo called "Chateau d'If" - I know that wasn't exactly a real place but what does "If" mean? I speak Spanish and can read most Romance languages, but I wasn't sure if that was a French word or just a made-up place name.

-
Ladies, we should start a separate thread for Dark Shadows, lol - so that anyone who gets to see the movie can talk about it without risking spoiling it for someone else!
Hugs to everyone today.
-
"Whale Wars!" So hoping that this was the last season Sea Shepherd has to protect our beloved whales in the Southern Ocean. Capt. Watson says he's probably the only television personality who WANTS his show to be cancelled!
-
I'm not one to go out to movies right when they open, anymore, but I am anticipating Dark Shadows too, whenever I do get to see it.
On T.V., I just watched a "Storage Wars" marathon a few nights ago. Isn't that just everyone's dream? Gettiing something for nothing, or digging thru' junk and finding something worth 10 times what you paid for it. It's kind of like the low brow version of Antiques Roadshow. Right up my alley!
-
IndigoMont11: Chateau d'If (shato def) means House of If. "If" means "yew" like the bush or tree. I don't know if that means there was a grove of yew on the island or if the name came from something else. I understand the chateau wasn't used in the movie. Didn't have the look they wanted. I haven't been there myself. My favourite southern city in France is Avignon.
My French isn't what I wish it was. My job involved working with English speaking women from all over the world--that in its self was challenge enough. So there wasn't much time to learn French fluently, but all the people in the market and restaurants in my neighbourhood help me learn new words all the time. I also speak some Spanish and visit Spain frequently. That's the kitchen sink answer.

-
Oh, thanks, Maya!
-
Indigo Duck Dynasty is my new secret pleasure, I found it at 2am on one of my sleepless nights and now I'm hooked.
-
Hi hbcheryl - did you see DD last niight, about Willie's daughter having a boyfriend? Funniest one yet, IMO!
-
Hi what an interesting thread.
I just want to make one comment on Dark Shadows..the movie...I can't wait to see! I used to watch it when I was a teen on tv. And having Johnny Depp in it is a treat...love him!
My fav shows are Big Bang Theory,Mike and Mollie,DWTS, the Middle, Modern family, Private Practice,Grey's Anatomy. My new fav is Scandeal...has anyone watched it. It is so good!
What is the Big C? What channel is it on?
nice to meet you all!
-
Harry's Law....Good Wife and the new one I found...Shameless with William H. Macy...it's hilarious! I defy anyone to watch that and not howl with laughter, altho it is not for the prudish!
-
The Big C is about a woman with stage IV melanoma. It's on Showtime.
I got hooked on Scandal from the first 5 minutes.
-
Schatzi, I love Shameless....wasn't William H. Macy just made for that roll? I am quite taken with the Gallagher family. Hope I don't fall asleep during Greys Anatomy tonight. Harry's Law supposedly takes place here in Cincinnati, but they made a replica of Arnold's Bar and the other places they use and don't actually shoot here. which is a shame because I would love to run into Kathy Bates sometime.
-
Marybe
You are so right...he is a hoot. Imagine him having to wear his hair like that while he's filming?
Just love that family...did u see the episode when the girl "borrowed" the little kid? DH and I just howled out loud.
Love Kathy Bates too....she gets great lines. Hope I don't nod off during G's Anatomy either...wanna see who DIDN'T pass the boards.
-
Thanks Cheryl..I don't have Showtime!
Grey's and Scandal were good last night. I may check out on demand tonight and check out a good movie!
