Artsee and others, does your hair need to be an inch before dyeing? I colored my hair for 20 years -- dark blonde with light highlights -- so I haven't seen my "real" hair color until now. I'm 8 weeks PFC and it has just started coming in -- that downy fluff -- but it seems to be almost pure white. I refuse to go topless until my hair is colored. Right now, though, it's more a 5-o'clock shadow, not long enough to get between your fingers. I imagine if I colored now, I'd just be coloring scalp.

So I need to have at least an inch probably???

I don't think mine was an inch. I colored mine at 13 weeks. You can see on my hair transition linky when my hair color went from chemo black/gray to reddish brown

    Good morning -

Wow,  had no idea that bleaching the hair was part of the dyeing process. Does anyone know of a good organic hair product? I heard that Aveda makes one - but I haven't looked into it.

WaveWhisperer - That white downy fluff is just your baby hair. I called it my whitecaps. I used my husbands electric razor to trim them right off and my hair (what little I had) looked immediately darker and stronger.

There's no bleach in the 28-shampoo color, which is what I used to cover the white down.  Just be careful to avoid colors that end in an "R" unless you want the red-orange look.  I learned about that after I'd done it a couple of times.  Plus, assume your hair is resistant to color and leave it on for 20 minutes.  It won't hurt your hair and the color will take much better.

Lago, I just looked at your "linky" and you are a stunning woman!!! My goodness, how inspiring you are to me!!

It is taking me a long time, but i see Ulta has the eyebrow kit on sale this week, so I am going to get it, and I also bought the 28 day hair dye.

I am moving forward step by step here.

I have become very aware of chemicals that are harmful...so progress is slow, but it is helping my self esteem so much. (checking that skindeep website all the time)

My small purchase last week : dangle earrings.

I wore lots of bling during chemo… actually I wear lots of bling. Jewelery is like my little sculpture collection.

Thanks for the compliment. It's all in the smile. Everyone looks great when they are smiling… and smiling also makes you feel better. It's like eating watermelon. You just can't be unhappy when eating watermelon.

Lago- Just checked out your link. You look beautiful! Have you cut your hair to get the cute style or have you just lucked out and it appears styled?  I obviously have a while to go but just wondering how you've handled it growing back in.  I am so anxious to get any length that the thought of an eventual cut scares me, but I am not sure if that's what people do to get it to grow in more nicely.

Hi Lago, I live in MA and I miss Filene's, too. How about Jordan Marsh? I used to love their stores. And let's not forget the Cherry, Webb, and Touraine stores.

i too, love the linky Lago.. i also love your positive image that you have of yourself.. and yes, you do have large, deep brown eyes that don't even need makeup.

How did you do that linky thing?

Thanks everyone. You're all so kind. I tend to photograph well too.

Apple As far as how I do the linky. I'm a designer so I have the software to make the image. You can host any image on photobucket.com (although I have my own website). Is that what you mean? Yes I have golden brown eyes… meaning I'm full of shit Tongue out

WaveWhisperer you must of missed it in my post. Here it is again: hair linky

CJRT  I kept having my hair trimmed. I keep it short now but with a bit longer side bangs. One of these days I'll update again. I make my stylest buzz the sides and back. Ironically I never buzzed my hair when it fell out. I've had my hair short before. It's so easy and looks good so for now it's staying short. Much cheaper too.

Elisabeth remember Bonwit Teller? I'm not sure hwo old you are but if you remember Cherry & Webb/Touraine's then I'm sure you remember Bonwit Teller. I remember going there to look at prom dresses…not to buy but to get ideas. No way could we afford to buy stuff there even on sale.

I remember Bonwit Teller, you are right, it was a store to dream in. Once I went with a girlfriend and we actually tried on some of those prom gowns. This was in the early 70's, at the time I felt a bit wrong about it, but now i am glad I had that day!

Late 60's for me. I graduated HS in 1969. I do not remember Bonwit Teller. I live in MA now, but I was born and raised in New Orleans.

The store I remember from NOLA is Maison Blanche. I have no idea if it still exists, but it was on the level of Nordstrom.

Wave...It doesn't matter how long the hair is. If the gray bothers you at 1/8th of an inch....get rid of it.

We should have to bothered by looking at it right?

For those that have used Latisse, do you use it after chemo is done, or during?

I remembered I have some of Urban Decay's version (Lush Lash - vegan, non-prescription, not animal tested, no warnings of eye color change) and figure now is the time to use it!

Wren44, Sadly, the Maison Blanche stores are no longer in business. Their main store on Canal Street in New Orleans has been turned into a Ritz Hotel.

random memory @ 1970.  For my birthday, my mom bought me two lipsticks.. pink with silver dust, and pink with gold dust.  they were both pretty, and pretty unflattering.. my first makeup ever.

I was 14, and just about to graduate from the 8th grade.  I wore a  hand sewn, light-blue dress made by our neighbor whose kids i babysat for free all during the 60s.  I was supposed to be paid 25 cents an  hour, but poor Mrs. Rice who had 7 kids and a no good husband who ran out on her, never had it.  The dress was nice.

Do you remember your first makeup?  I did try nail polish in the 6th grade.

    Hi guys,

I graduated in 68.My first hair color was in the basement at age 14 (very light blond) and I thought my parents wouldn't notice.:) What the H----was I thinking? They stared at me like I just came in from outer space. I still have the same color today. It's actually a little prettier because now the grey around my face get a nice beige. I've always loved bling...must be the artist in me. When I shop it needs to have some sparkle. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a tart. Anyway....I don't think I've ever left the house with out a stitch of make up EVER...until this March in AZ when my face got nice and tan...I felt a confidence come over me and felt I didn't need it. But the eyes..oh yes always do the eyes. WHY am I telling you all this? Must of had too many cups of coffee. Ha.

Lago...what is this "LINKY"? I want to check it out. I'll be back later, have a great day. You guys rock.

I got my first makeup when I was 14 - foundation, like I really needed THAT!  And lipstick - I seem to remember a peachy color that did nothing for me.  My mom didn't use much makeup but she had some blue creme eye shadow that I would experiment with.

Bonwit Teller was one of my first credit cards, also The Blum Store. They had wonderful clothes, expensive, but I didn't care because I was great at saying 'charge it'...lol.

Ossa:  Thanks, I might hold off on using my stuff until after the chemo is over.  I wasn't sure either if using it during would be a waste.
